Well, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say he IS visiting.

Let me preface this post by saying I'm dealing in hypotheticals here. I am not trying to make some pollyanna-ish predictions; I'd just like to get opinions from the board by those more versed in recruiting than I am.

1. This is all predicated on our giving out 23 scholarships this year.
2. Say we get Robinson.
3. We also get players that we have a really good shot with: Brown, McCarthy, Floyd, and Filer.
4. If we should have a chance with the following players, who do we take: Sabino, Patchan, Page, Lewis-Moore, Aghayere, Baldwin, Ryan Williams, Cyrus Gray, and even Arthur Brown (long shot, I know)?

Granted, this a rather unbelievable proposition, but what would you see ND doing?
I figure that we can probably safely eliminate Page, Lewis-Moore, and Aghayere from the equation as we would have those positions fairly well-filled already. I figure we can also probably disregard Brown as having less interest than those remaining. Who then does the Irish take?

Your opinions, please, and if you like, completely disregard my speculations after the 4 points.

I agree with Irishman10. Sabino seems like a monster in the middle and Baldwin is more or less a freakishly tall, strong, and can jump insanely high, pull in td after td... something shark used to do on a regular basis.

So then is ND giving out more than 23 scholarships this year?

23-24 is the best guess. 2 LBs, 2 WRs, an OL, a DB, and a RB would be a nice rounded out class with 24 in it, while leaving space for Crum Jr. and Lambert if they so chose. But what we have penciled in on paper doesn't always translate to reality. What happens at DB (do we get McCarthy, Brown, both, or neither?) and LB (Filer & Sabino? the longshots? Compton?) will most heavily dictate the flow of scholarship allotments amongst the final 6-7 spots.

That, and the Trevor Robinson thing is a real monkey wrench in all of this. All of the OL offers were indicating taking official visits before they pulled the trigger - now guys that weren't planning on taking visits this summer (Page, Forst) are reconsidering whether they will or not (says Mike Frank from his show last night). All the while, it possibly narrows down the field even further, applying more pressure on guys at other positions with offers.

Things have been particularly frantic on the recruiting scene since the Omar Hunter surprise, but with pop-ups like this, I see no signs of letting up.

Etienne Sabino, Ryan Williams, and if Jonathon Baldwin decides to come on NSD then they'll take him. That's 24 with a possible 25 scholarships used.

Just out of curiosity, any specific reason for Patchan as the odd man out instead of these guys? Not arguing, just wondering why.

It's so much better speculating if we'll have enough room than begging for someone to commit to us (like we did the past 8 years before Weis).

I don't really think I'm answering your question here, but I do see more than one offensive lineman wanting to come out of Patchan, Page, and Robinson. Problem is, I don't know if we'll have that space. Someone is going to get left behind, unless we make room by cutting another position, which we can't really do...

Damn, I hope Weis knows, because I sure as hell don't.

Its a rather dramatic turnaround from the feelings being experienced back in Jan after the Army All-American game.

I didn't really think about Patchan. I've just figured only one more lineman would be taken and with the recent news of Robinson it could be him. He is visiting and deciding before Patchan. WR is more of a need and Baldwin is more realistic than Patchan.

The optimism on Trevor Robinson committing to the Irish just might be an overreach. The SI article says that his unofficial visits to ND and scUM are just to confirm that his commitment to Nebraska is the right decision. It concludes by saying that he has stated that he still considers himself to be committed to Nebraska. IMO, CW and gang will have to wow him to have him change his mind.

I don't think so. He already really liked ND, and most likely favored them before. I think the distance hurdle was the deciding factor the first time around. Why would he go back and take a visit to a place he's already been many times just to make sure he wants to stay with Nebraska? There's something going on at Nebraska. They also might be losing one of their commited WR's and Brandon Leslie pushed back his announcement date just before he was exspected to verbal to the Huskers. From what I've heard, and other similar cases I've seen I think Trevor is now pretty sure, if not completely sure that he doesn't want to go to Nebraska, and is probably heavily favoring ND with Michigan as a fall back plan.

I agree with goshen, you don't go looking at other schools if your committed to one school. It doesn't make sense. IMHO I think he felt pressure to go to neb simple because he is from neb.

First let me say I am a Husker fan, so I found the need to clear up a few things I have seen posted about what is going on at Nebraska.

Trevor is taking visits to please his father, not because of anything else. His father is the vice-chancellor at Nebraska-Omaha, so needless to say, he is very high on academics. It is why Trevor's father has been in favor of Notre Dame from the beginning. His father has not let up about taking more visits in hopes Trevor would change his mind to go to what he thinks is a more 'prestigious' academic school.

If the decision was left up to Trevor, he would be a Husker. Kids from Elkhorn, NE are usually diehard Nebraska fans. As Larry the Cable Guy said, "if you're from Nebraska and not a Cornhusker fan, you must be a communist."

So basically, the recruitment will be decided upon whether dad wins or Trevor wins. Sad thing is, it is looking like dad may be winning.

About some WR reconsidering his commitment -- I have no clue what you are talking about. We only have JUCO Adrian Hilburn committed, and their has not even been one rumor suggesting he is backing out on his commit.

Leslie -- I can tell you first hand he was ready to commit on Monday to Nebraska. He backed off because Coach Callahan asked him to make an unofficial or official to Nebraska first. The reason he did it is because if Leslie begins to have a big senior season and other schools come calling, he doesn't want Leslie wonder 'what if' and begin to look around. He wants him to be 100% sure of his decision before he makes it.

Lastly, in reading some threads, I have seen mention of Bryce Givens being unsure of his decision. Completely false. Bryce is 100% Husker. Yes, his dream school was Texas, but once Texas spurned him, that was it. Bryce wasn't ready to be 'Plan B' for them once a few lineman transferred.

Another reason to know Bryce is 100% -- his best friend and teammate Jimmy Miller is a HUGE Husker fan. I bring this up because Jimmy's mother is originally from Nebraska and posts regularly on a Nebraska message board. Bryce came to Jimmy's house just to use her account to make a post about his recruitment. He clearly stated he had ZERO interest in other schools and only showed interest to raise his stock to get into the Army All-American game. Lets face it, getting into that game is more about hype and offers list, so you can't blame Bryce for it.

He recently called the Texas coaches and told them not to even bother calling anymore, it was basically pointless since he wasn't changing his mind.

Just thought I should clear some of this stuff up that is floating around.

Nebraska fans are crazy. :krazy: They're whole fanbase might commit suicide if someone from Nebraska doesn't want to go there. Newsflash: You're not that great and Notre Dame is the more prestigious school.

And who the hell are you? Why on Earth should we believe you? What insight do you have on the Nebraska program? You can't just go on a message board and say you're "Clearing stuff up" and expect anyone to believe you.

LOL, thank you for trying to make yourself feel better by convincing yourself that Trevors dad is the reason this is all happening. TR chose Nebraska because they were close to home, that was the only reason. And now it's not big enough of reason and he's having doubts. He won't come out and say he's thinking of de-committing because you crazy people are blowing up his phone and keep the insane pressure on him to stay in state. He's come to ND what 3 or 4 times? He really needs another visit to make sure he's all Cornhusker? I don't think so. You're all under the impression because he said "I don't know when the visits are scheduled my dad might've already done that." Yeah his dad helped schedule his visits so now it's his dad pressuring him to go somewhere else? It was always between ND and NU with Michigan just being a fallback option. If he de-commits he de-commits, don't come here spewing your "theory". I read the Nebraska baords and thats exactly what it is "Your theory" so theres no inside info or anything you're all just hoping it's because TR doesn't want to ND and accually make you feel embarrassed for losing him. It happens to every team so you need to suck it up and accept his decision.
