believe me, i'd love to pound the ball, control clock and play action deep or down the seam all day long but for some reason we're not opening up the holes like we're capable of doing. we seem to have more success through the air as evidenced by michigan first quarter and 2nd half MSU.

Do what you do best. Pass the ball. Screw it. Turn into Texas Tech. Win bleep it just win!!!

Well, this will be a close one. ND must find a way to win in the running game. If ND takes care of the ball, we win, if not......I will exploded into pieces.

I am making the journey from Atlanta and taking my wife to her first game, so they better win.

Kerry Neal has a big game and someone in the running game bust a big one. Jonas!!

ND 28 Purdon't 13.

I agree. If you know you can't do something and you keep doing it over and over, you're going to fail every time.

im in my 4th year at purdue and maybe i can provide a little insight into this team.

first of all the fans think this team sucks. all my friends here are purdue fans and about half expect purdue to lose. the other half tend to be delusional notre dame haters.

but purdue is dangerous if you dont know what you are looking for... and thats exactly how they almost beat oregon.

ill make some bullet points and try to make this short and sweet

- curtis painter is not as good as advertised. he folds like a lawnchair under pressure and was almost pulled last week playing against a central michigan secondary. if we can use our blitzes effectively purdue will have to rely on its running game.

- which is scary because kory sheets is way better than advertised. he is now the leader in all time touchdowns at purdue and second in rushing touchdowns only to mike alstott. he could cause us more problems than ringer in my opinion because he is shiftier and faster.

- purdues secondary is decimated and in all honesty just sucks. they have no run defense to speak of. pretty much purdue has relied heavily on its run game (probably contrary to what you knew) to carry the team this year.

- purdue special teams... one word: down right awful. or three words... the point is i expect a couple of big returns from allen and tate this saturday. hopefully we see our first punt return since zibby. or our first kickoff return since julius jones. oh thats depressing.

- kory sheets is a run to the outside kind of guy but can hit a hole hard and once he gets heading in a straight line... hes fast.

- also ive never seen him put on too many moves in my time here... but that move he put on the defender last week for the game winning touchdown was pretty nasty. albeit it was central michigan.

- clausen should have a field day with this secondary. probably the worst weve faced so far. i would put them below san diego state. dont look at the stats. consider who theyve played. oregon sucks at passing. and northern colorado is one of the worst teams in division II. if dan lefevour can shred that secondary... believe me, so can jimmy.

- the purdue defensive line is not much to worry about. and im saying that despite having a friend on it. i expect a zero sack performance and another 100 yard rushing day. hopefully this one can be a 150 yarder.

- purdue almost beat oregon. then they come out and are down to central michigan with 1 minute left in the 4th. this team is very unpredictable and we need to discourage them early. they may be experienced but tiller never brought in much talent.

- brock spack (the dc) is soooo bad. the boilers better be thanking the Lord that danny hope is the new coach. count on one thing: we will absolutely rape the defense in the second half. it wont be for the weak of heart.

my prediction:

if haywood still has the playsheet... purdue 34 nd 14
if notre dame has figured out he sucks... nd 38 purdue 21

I am hoping for a win from Notre Dame. Not only becuase I am going, or a couple of my buddy's at school are Purdue fans, but to put our season back on track. Another lose would probably turn our season into a repeat of last year, if we are lucky 4 wins.

We just need to screw our running game and give JC his big chance to blow out Purdon't. After a while we can start running against an unexpecting Purdue dline and try that out for a while. If it works get a nice even run/pass game going. If not stick to the air. We just need to start out with what we are good at right away, and not get screwed like we did at MSU.

they'll have all day to throw... we'll still blitz regardless... we won't be able to run the ball... they light it up through the air as always... we lose by two scores...

last time we lose for a while though

An ineffective run offense against an ineffective run defense ... something has to give! I expect ND to win, but I don't expect it to be pretty and I don't expect it to be by very much ... a "nail biter" by a 3-6 point range. Lordy, I better stock up on extra cold beer to get thru this one!!!

I hope it doesn't end up too ugly. I really think this team as the ability to beat Purdue handily. Do I think they will? No. I think they squeek one out if we are lucky. I hope we can run on them, I am pretty confident in passing on them. I just wonder if we can get to Painter.

Speaking of receivers does anyone else see that Golden and Floyd are like head and shoulders above our other receivers.

Kumara's precipitous decline remains a real head scratcher. If he can regain his old form it's going to be a real bitch for secondaries to cover our receivers.

How about Golden fighting for extra yards Saturday? I love this kid. Fighting for extra yards and the fastest kid on the field, gotta love him.

Not only that he brings what's lacking in some areas of our football team..

Swagga...

He is only a soph and is still developing! Those 3 are going to give teams headaches for the next couple of years and I think JC can get them the ball! We just need to fix the running game and everything else will take care of itself!

I do believe in college football you can pass to set up the run. This is a huge difference between the pro and college game. Come out firing, no screens, and set up the run. We are not going to be able to pound the ball againist anyone.

It's Tuesday, so I am feeling a bit better. Turns out my vision quest didn't take me to the woods (no real woods in Orange County), but to the closest dive bar I could find (which, by the way was Swallow's Inn in San Juan Capistrano). Found out my spirit guide is actually a grey goose. Interesting. So now, I am feeling better about our chances.

My prediction: ND 31 Purdue 30. Don't know why. Just wishful thinking. I think we get down early and have to battle back in the second half. We still win ugly, but I think we win nonetheless.

I agree. Get them on their heels and maybe we run enough to make our running game look adequate. Eventually one of these guys has to break one if we catch someone off guard. But we need to use the pass to set it up.

Man, you're deep in the O.C. huh? South South O.C. Funny, Grey Goose was my drink of choice that night too!

We are very wishful thinkers around here. Almost every week, we predict these insanely high scores for an offense that simply does not score a lot of points (yet). I think we will get there, and it's going to be fun once we do, but every single game it seems like everyone has us scoring in the high twenties to the mid thirties. And the SDSU predictions were off the charts!

The good news is that Purdue's defense struggles. The bad news is that so does our offense. I like where our defense is headed as well, and I see this as a 21-17 type score. But I'm hoping for what you predicted OCIrish, as far as our points go. This offensive passing game is this close to taking off (hint: USE THE MIDDLE OF THE FIELD!!!), and when it does, it's going to be fun to watch...

you could always go to Laguna Woods... with all the old people, it get's quiet after 6pm when Matlock comes on. it would be quiet enough to think you're in the woods.

NDinL.A. - how are you my brother from another mother?!? Don't you see a pattern to my posts? My excuse is I drink heavily. That is the reason for my inflated predictions and my inflated self esteem.

You're right, very south OC. Grey Goose was good this past weekend, but another game like that and I think my spirit guide will change to Wild Turkey!

Except for the sound of respirators and motorized carts charging their batteries.

The ND rushing stats are rather scary. Notre Dame ranks 111th nationally in rushing, averaging 78 yards per game and 2.6 yards per carry. ND hasn't rushed for more than 113 yards in any one game this season and against MSU the Irish managed just 16 yards on 22 carries. Purdue on the other hand is allowing nearly 200 yards rushing per game thus far. So the opportunity for running the ball appears to be there, but I'm afraid that the Boilers will be going 'head over hills' to stop the run. That puts more onus on Clausen and the WR's to perform very efficiently. With Clausen averaging throwing 2 picks per game, that hasn't been the case thus far. This has the making of a very ugly game, to say the least.

I am hoping the running game is something that will start to click this weekend and improve the rest of the year! Can we hire Oregan State's OL coach already?!?!?

To me, Purdue is either a feast or famine game. Either we come out and just dominate and bitch slap them like the annoying little brother they are. Or, we play like crap and they give us all the trouble we can handle. I hope tomorrow is the bitch slap variety!

GO GET 'EM BOYS!!!
