So does this lead everyone to believe you should try to run up the score? I understand they played a D-1 school ansd some others didn't. Heck they may deserve to be the #1 team in the nation. But, did their victory warrant moving up 2 spots even though the 2 teams ahead of them won convincingly also?

To me, they looked like the number 1 team in the country. UGA and OSU looked very good, but not great. The Dirty Sanchez throws a mean ball.

I think that USC deserves to be the number 1 team. Georgia and Ohio State played no name teams. I believe that Virginia was 9-4 last year and played in a bowl.

while the win over Virginia seems in theory better than wins over Georgia Southern and Youngstown, with a score like 52-6, it begs the question whether Virginia is all that good. What if Virginia ends up no better than .500 on the year and Y-State and GSouthern end up losing only one more game on their schedule?

But i think the better question is whether morons like ESPN, USA today, et al. have any basis to rank any teams before the 5-week or so.

I think they deserved it because as stated before the just didn't beat they thrashed a 1A team. I don't like USC but I will give them credit for looking very good and deserving of the number 1 team. I also wonder if they also moved up because maybe voters take the negative effects of major injuries in to account like Beanie Wells for OSU and Owens for UGA.

I don't like it because the two teams ahead of them won - albeit against "lesser" teams. OSU and Georgia both won convincingly too so I think it is splitting hairs to say Virginia is better than the other teams. Who knows? Youngstown and Georgia Southern might be able to beat Virginia so who's to say?
I just hate USC so very much.

I ran a 10K up at USC this past weekend and it turned my stomach to have to be around all those stinking Trojans! I saw a group of football players walking around and I had thoughts of knee-capping a few of them, but I knew I couldn't outrun them after the 6+ miles I had just done.

I think they got it right moving USC to #1 as much as I hate them!!! GA and OSU should be punished for playing Div 1AA teams!!!! I watched a little of both games and neither team looked as dominate as they should against VERY weak teams!!!

i dont think they should have rankingsuntil at least the 4th week of the season but since they do i think usc should be number one in the country. as a team they looked to be the best. i watched al the games and they looked better. some coaches might have called off the dogs but not the douche bag in la. (thats pete carroll, i know theres alot of douche bags in la) but they do have a solid team with another couple of first rounders

assuming OSU beats USC and wins the rest of their games, why wouldn't they belong in the NC game? what you do during the season determines bowl eligibility, not the bowl result.

I think the one of the reasons USC jumped UGA was because USC had the nationally televised 3:30 game while UGA was playing on pay per view and probably not seen by that many. I saw the UGA game and they completely dominated Georgia Southern in every way(as they should have). Georgia Southern's first team offense scored that last touchdown against UGA's third team defense. Although, it is really irrelevant right now. Whoever wins the week 3 match up between USC and Ohio St. will be #1 and should be. That being said, UGA's schedule is much more harder than either of the two and if they do what they need to do they will be back at #1 in no time.

I do not think OSU has a pray against USC! I think OSU gets beat wins the rest of their games on a weak schedule and still sneaks into the national championship only to get destroyed again!!!!!!

i think if they lose badly, i think the voters would move them down so much they couldn't recover, even though the loss would be so early in the season.
