good article. i dont agree with everything he says, but i like the point of giving the pessimistic view amidst all the pre-season optimism.

i wouldn't call it the best breakdown, but

The problem with Irish fans is they always expect more than is objectively likely, and they frequently expect more than is humanly possible.

i think this should be put in everyone's signature... just sayin

I can never understand why you can only be respected for your college football knowledge and your overall status as an astute sports fan if you show a negative or pessimistic view of the upcoming year. Why is it bad to say, "My team is going to kick your team's butt this year!"? Does it make me a good quality fan if I only point out why we shouldn't win? That is what is so beautiful about college football and sports in general. Anything can happen on any given day. That is why they still go out and play the games.

Do we have a lot of question marks? Absolutely. Do we know how the season is going to play out? Absolutely not. I wish we did because I would make a killing in Vegas.

I believe the team this year can go 10-2 or even better. Does that mean I know less about football because I am filled with hope and optimism? I probably do know less than other people here, but I never claimed to be an expert. I just claimed to be a die-hard fan.

I choose to drink the Kool-aid dammit! Under the influence of that Kool-aid I have seen a lot of amazing moments in sports. I choose to hope beyond all hope every, single year no matter what the circumstances because I believe in this team and this University with every ounce of my being. Until I am proved wrong (and it wouldn't be the first or last time I am wrong) I am going to believe in this team and I am going to swear they will win every game they play.

Call me whatever you want for believing the positive chances for our team. Copy my post and rip it apart. Say I am dumb for drinking the Kool-Aid or whistling past the graveyard. Insult my sports knowledge, say I don't know anything and how can I be so stupid to think this team will do better than 6-6. I DON'T CARE! I have lived in USC territory my whole life - I can take anything you can dish out because I have to put up with it from all those Trojan a-holes every day! I choose to believe so pour me another friggin' glass of Kool-Aid!

GO IRISH!!! GO GET 'EM BOYS!!!

Go Irish, I agree... what pleaseure will I get out of predicting the Irish go 7-5?

I think they have a shot to win every game, including USC, and by golly gee I'm going to go into every game hoping and knowing we have a shot, cuz we're NOTRE DAME. As a fan I would be an idiot to think my team has no shot in hell, for goodness sake didn't anyone watch the Superbowl? No one thougth the Giants could win, but they did.

Irish go 13-0 this year, you can put that in the bank.

2007 was a horrible year for me. I was in Iraq, I was going through a divorce, and at the same time watching my boys in Blue and Gold get pushed around week in week out. It sucked! At the same time, I thought to myself, "Hell lets get it all over with this year." One thing I learned over there was to take one day at a time and thats how I'm looking at this season, one game at a time. Let's start 1-0 and go from there.

I drink the kool-aid also. Don't care what others think. I always believe the Irish and all my favorite teams are going to be good.

Thanks Bigfan, I needed it. I just can't wait when we destroy the teams that beat up on us last year, I really hope Charlie doesn't hold back against scUM when we are winning by 3 touchdowns, hell, even our freshmen kids will look great out there anyways.

I'm just being a realist, and 13-0 is very realistic.

Most know I'm in the middle here I expect a good rebuilding year that hopefully ends in a bowl win... this guy is to be taken as seriously as those on this board who honestly pick ND to win the title every year... I believe, like him, in tyring to expect the low and be taken by the positive rather than the opposite but, I mean seriously is there NOTHING on the team that is positive???? This guy just went down the roster and knocked the entire team...

whatever
