Detroit was already primed for another run at the cup, now it appears that they have a chance of winning almost every single game, including sweeping each round in the playoffs

Sorry Acamp, I am not trying to brag or anything... I am just simply shocked right now, I was praying for perhaps a shot at Sundin, and instead we land Hossa...just not believable

It's all good, I'd be excited too.

Hossa is a great player but I'd take Mats over him... wouldn't you???

Make no mistakes about it, Hossa will make a good team, close to a great one in Hockey Town. As for Tiger, I admit he is better at his job than I will ever be at mine, but his Huge teeth creep this man out!

I am still waiting for the Flyers to sign someone....anyone. I know, they re-signed the necessary folks but, geez, they need some frigging defense.

the caps signed keith aucoin. it's not that big of a deal to alot of people, but it's cool because he played D3 in vermont and i've seen him play a bunch of times.

As a die hard pens fan i was quite upset when I heard Hossa signed with the Wings. But its a business and he made a decision so best of luck to him. I still think the Pens are the class of the Eastern Conference, but if we couldn't beat Detroit with Hossa, I dont see how we can beat them without him. Just have to hope someone in the West knocks them out but without a doubt they are the overwhelming favorite to repeat. And to answer a question previously asked in this thread, I will take Hossa over Sundin any day of the week. In my book Sundin is a solid player but WAY past his prime.

I too, was majorly upset with this, the Pens offered him a great deal and he went to Hockeytown cuz he thought it was 'better chance for a cup.' Let's just hope we see them next year. Look out for Pesonen--Finnish player the Pens signed, low-risk high reward player. Led their league in points, +- a year ago also. Could be an interesting fit on a line somewhere. We also landed Satan, he might play with Crosby, we shall see. Needless to say, I loved Hossa, he'll be great there I'm sure. I'd love to see a series replay! GO PENS!

I hate to point this out, I really do, but Pittsburgh fans are dillusional if they think they played as good as Detroit in the Stanley Cup finals, and even more so if they thought they had a chance at winning the cup after what they saw.

Hossa saw the writing on the wall, players in Pitts don't like playing with Crosby, they don't like the coach, and Hossa saw that a lot of talent was leaving.

I think it speaks volumes that even after Sid the Kid called Hossa repeatedly the morning he decided to leave Pittsburgh, he still left because deep down he saw Detroit's defense manhandle Pittsburgh like no other defense in the league, and he loves that Zetty and Pav play the two way game of getting back on defense.

I know there are a ton of Pens fans here and I'm sorry, not trying to start anything... but for once I would like to meet a real Pittsburgh fan who does not have the homer glasses on and can understand that Pitts is a very young team, I don't think they will make the finals next year based on their talent level at this point, and I'm not even sure Detroit will either... but Detroit dominated that series, and Hossa above the rest understood that the most.

Where did anyone say anything about Pitt outplaying Detriot... NO ONE did... so Pitt gets hammered for losing in the finals??

They lost Hossa!!! A player that has never in his career, this year included proven he can contribute when it counts. Total stat line player. BTW, one who scores nearly as much on the back end as he does on the front. The guy is Sandis Ozolinsh at the forword position at times. What else could possibly be seen as a negative reduction in talent?? You said yourself they are stupid young, that's a good thing for the future not a bad thing. Three of the key five are already locked up and we'll see what happens with Geno.

I'm a hockey fan, I know you could have the Canadian National team and you are not a lock for the second round when it comes to the Stanley Cup Playoffs... The odds that either Pitt OR the Wings make it back are much lower than the two finalists in any of the other major sport IMO...

Doesn't mean Pens fans can't be happy about the year they just had... Can't you just enjoy your cup?

that's my two cents

I respect that Acamp, I guess most of my anger and perhaps I was very wrong for posting at that moment, but it stems from the journalists from Pittsburgh and how they are documenting the cup finals, how they are shocked Hossa would leave for an aging Detroit team, and etc... I have always said that the young talent level on Pittsburgh is scary, but keeping it will be hard. I really do hope to see a re-match next year in the finals, but it's next to impossible for both teams to crank it through again next year.

Anyways, sorry for my rant, and Acamp is right, I should just enjoy the past season and not be concerned with the future at the moment, sorry guys.

WWB......

Pens got outplyed by the Red Wings, it was a minor miracle the series went all the way to 6 games.......

You are dead wrong about people dont like playing with Crosby, I dont know if you just made that up or have some awful sources.

I have heard the whole they hate the head coach thing but i dont buy it, if that is true then why did malkin and orpik just take less to play here

No one in the East is better than the pens, so we will probably see you in the finals next year where you will probably win in 6 games or less.

Stop making stuff up, saying things like what you have said make people hate the team you like regardless of who it is. Its just obnoxious.

I'm sorry, I really wasn't making stuff up. There was an article on ESPN a while back that did hint at the fact that some players do not enjoy playing with Crosby, personally I think that can be linked to the same as Clausen, a young person who is taking on a huge role and the older guys have trouble looking up to him.

Second off, the coach rumors are true, also documented at ESPN, but it wasn't the whole team (same as Crosby rumors). Some guys, such as Malone, had a problem with Thieren and decided to leave. I think it is remarkable you signed Malkin at that price, although that didn't happen until Hossa was gone (makes you wonder).

I am not trying to be obnoxious at all, I am a very level-headed hockey fan, I just love the sport over any other and respect so many parts of it, I think it is really the only sport where someone will push away money in order to win it all (you don't find that too much in other sports).

Thieren is an old school Bill Parcells type of caoch. Those guys don't mix well at times with the modern "pamper me" jocks. Obviously the results are hard to argue with, but it's no secret that some, Brooks O. included (who took less money to stay) don't like coach T that much.

IF the Pens can resign Malone (which may be unlikey) and Geno doesn't bolt for the homeland (which also is highly unlikely)... the Pens will be the easy fav for the East next year... but that doesn't mean much come playoff time.

The Crosby thing may have some legs only due to his age...

Tgier Woods, LeBron James, and Jimmy have all felt it a bit... it goes away with time, and has absolutely NOTHING to so with the kids playing style.

ACamp dont mean to burst your bubble but Malone signed in Tampa and Malkin resigned for 5 years with us. That all happened a week ago.

The only one who didnt really like Crosby was Recchi and he is long gone.

Also I read some comments on another site the other day from some obnoxious red wings fans. they were not happy about the winter classic because it will be a red wings blowout and that will hurt the nhl. do they really think they are going to win every game?

it just goes to show you its not red wings fans, not pens fans, not ND fans, but everyones fans wear homer glasses!! Its just the way it is in sports

That's really strange a red wings fan would say that, he/she obviously didn't watch many regular season games last year and see that we got our asses handed to use almost each and every time by the blackhawks (yeah, i can't explain it either)... and now that they have campbell and huet, I'm a little concerned to say the least.

The blackhawks will be very good, but i think they are a year away from contending. i think they will make the playoffs but lose early, similar to what the pens did in 2006-07. But they are a team on the rise, thats for sure.

It will be good to see the Wings/Hawks rivalry be meaningful again. I mean I am sure it is still meaningful to their fans, but on a league wide landscape
