maybe a pac 10 team like Cal or Oregon. Or how about a team like Clemson. The Irish in death valley would be awesome

isay we have to get ahold of a southern team with a fanatical backing. like bama, auburn, one of them and then a team like maryland who every couple years has a good team. but not a national contender. that way we play a great sec team and get back out to the east coast to help with recruiting and visibility

I live in Colorado Springs and work accross the street from Falcon Stadium. I have been to 2 Irish games there and the first one was several years ago when Gameday was there and both teams i believe were undefeated. The other was when Brady and Co came to town a couple years ago. Its a great atmosphere, even with the smaller stadium. I really hope the Irish renew the home and home, because its the only time I really have a chance to see them live.

I was at the one when Gameday was there. I saw Chris Fowler at Buca de Bepos (sp?) while we were there. They were both undefeated at the time, but AF was overrated.

I agree. Seeing the Irish in Death Valley would be one crazy atmosphere! Oregon is a team we should definetly consider adding. It would give us nice visibility in the pacific northwest which is underrated in talent every year and we would play in one of the best stadiums in the country.

I'd say Ohio State. We owe them after the Fiesta bowl!! Texas would be cool too.

I would definately love to see Texas and Alabama on the schedule. I think ND should rotate Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State into the schedule, instead of just sticking with Michigan every year. Playing Michigan less often should make it more special and they get to renew the rivalry with Penn State and maybe establish a new one with Ohio State.

I'd love to see OSU on the schedule and thne a team from the South to help recruiting, LSU, UF, FSU, whatever. Or Miami, lets get the Catholics vs. the Convicts rivalry going again.

Vandy on the road so I could walk to the game. I really want to play Alabama, that would be great tradition.

Florida and OSU. I want to play the teams that I don't like. We already have SC on the schedule so let's add those two... Especially Florida. Recruit stealing...

I would love to see them get stomped iby ND in Gainesville...

I'd like to see either Texas or Oklahoma and then either Washington or Oregon every year.
Thats because BSU is too small school wise and playerwise. I am actually very surprised at the Utah game.

i think lsu and texas would be alot to take, plus you are playing in the same region and i would really like to see us get out to the nw more. visibility against home teams is key in recruiting.

Isn't Oklahoma scheduled in the next five years? That would be HUGE for recruiting. Arizona St may be a good addition when the time comes to play them. Although the way that scheduling is done so far in advance all games look good on paper. The possibility of putting the "powerhouse" on the schedule could turn around and bite ND in the....Just think if they did schedule the "team" and they weren't doing so hot the couple years leading up to it...."Notre Dame schedule is too soft"...............Here we go again

Thanks for the info. Maybe ND will play the 99 possible uniform combination Ducks of Oregon....or is 98..lol

LMAO...it's pretty crazy all right... Since they don't have such a deeply rooted tradition of football they really like the ever-changing unis. It keeps things fresh for them.

If we use this tentative schedule, I'd like to see a few top teams in the schedule. I like that we're going to hit up OU for a couple of games. I'd like to get Texas and Tenn in the schedule for a couple of those years. I like to see our boys play teams in orange. lol. I'd also like to see an exchange with Auburn. One year at home and one away. I'd like to squeeze Texas A&M in for a couple of years also. Maybe trade out a Standford type team for them. And then it'd be cool to play tOSU in a regular season game. I know thats more than two teams to throw out. But I'd like to see them in the next 5 years. Especially since ND is going to be in the NC mix that whole time.

FSU, Georgia Tech or Texas A&M. They are all "good but not great" BCS programs. We have history with all of them and they are in great recruiting states! I really wish we could get some home and home series set up with these programs. But If there is one team I would love to see ND beat (beyond traditional rivals), it would be Alabama! I'm sick of hearing how they have the most "National Championships." Just because the Birmingham Gazette or the Montgomery Times "gave" it to them; they claim it. We have the most NC's and beating them year in and year out would seem fitting.

Yeah, people have come to see Michigan as some rival...it's weird. Look at this:
Notre Dame Game by Game against Opponents

Between 1909 - 1978 we played them twice...

Michigan is hardly a traditional rivalry.

Uh, yeah, they are. Who do you think taught us the game of football? To think that we shouldn't play them every year in football to me is like not playing Southern Cal. It is far more imperative that we play UM, if not for the distance alone. Plus, as someone stated, we're neck and neck all time in winning percentage. Every time we can kick thier sorry asses, the better. If you haven't taken the time, do so and read Natural Enemies. It's a great book about the history of ND and UM. It sheds a ton of light as to why we're not in the Big 10, and why I feel that Purdue and MSU should absolutely always be on our schedule with Navy, UM, and Southern Cal.

As to who to add to our schedule. Alabama, UGA, UT, UF, although they will never come north of the Mason Dixon line for an away game(Chicken *hits!!), Texas, Auburn. Take your pick as to any of those teams, and I would love to see us play them in a game, home and home style.

UM is a rival because they taught us the game when we first started. They were also the only team we played the first year. In 1909 we beat them for the first time and they decided they didn't like playing us. So for 70 years we only managed 2 games. I think if there is ANY rival that we have it is Michigan. No other team ties us to our roots more. Plus, can anyone thing of another team as storied as ND? It's a good game, even if every time they run onto the field my stomach turns.

Like I said though, they are not a traditional rival. It's a new thing. That's why I don't mind ditching them.

Sure they taught us football, but there are plenty of teams we have played more and have a deeper history with.

USC.

We have more history. They made us the traveling team that we are. They allowed us to become a true power. Michigan did not help us in anyway towards achieving success.

USC and Navy are our true rivals. No one else matches up to them. Not even close.
