Zeke Berry entered the portal. Probably won't go to a rival and will have a big price tag.

Has anyone heard why he entered the portal?
My guess is it's a combination of depth chart and having to take a big pay cut. II said that Gray is coming back and they haven't heard anything to indicate that Zackery and Golden are going to leave.

I'd guess that he wants to play. Prolly asked to take a paycut too. I hate it but it's bound to happen with the DB room. Sucks cuz I remember hearing good things all last spring about him

Yeah I was gonna suggest that he got a low ball offer to stay. It's weird because he made some noise early on but then completely fell off the map.

Portal season is starting to turn into how signing day used to be when it was in the first week of February. Early signing day has put a tamper on that

Thought he might stay one more year, but this makes sense. He's the clear #3 out of the 3 CBs in his same class. Both Golden and Zackery are better players, who have earned more opportunity. With Adams and Pouncey coming in behind him, it's not going to get any easier.

Maybe just your opinion here, but: What is the estimated timeline for the portal window?

IE: When might we hear about some ND commitments? Or more solid news than just the guessing that's happening now.

Thanks.

If Zackery was considering leaving, I doubt he would have hopped onto the MBB team.

Agree he’s #3 on depth of 25 class but disagree that’s it’s due to the other two being better. I don’t know why he didn’t get more chances but imo he’s way better than Zackery. I thought Zackery was terrible this year. Golden made mistakes mentally but you could see the potential and his ability to compete. Zackery didn’t compete and I don’t see the potential. I know he’s athletic, but he just has no instincts for the position. In limited reps and in person I thought Cree showed a lot more potential.

Gray and Zackery can not be our field corner 2 deep . Zackery playing bball and missing a lot of the spring, I hope Adams or pouncey jump him.

As you know there’s other reasons kids don’t play other than not being the best player.

Austin Simmons just entered the portal, I think this points to Deuce Knight going to Ole Miss

I don't remember ND's recruitment of this guy but apparently the staff went after him heard out of HS; has put on 45 lbs since then and had a strong 2025, including 4 sacks.

Wow - hot seat Christian Gray?
From Matt's comments in his article, it sounds more like they're targeting him for nickel.

Frankly, that'd be a good. I think more DBs need to be open to playing nickel, because that's becoming the default formation in the league practically.

He’s a bit of an outlier but Cooper DeJean on my Eagles has been incredibly impactful at NB. Great in run support from there and still twitchy enough to cover slots. He’s going to get paid like a CB1 as he should.
