I wrote this response to another poster, but I'll repeat it for you...

This is going to happen a lot. DT's are at a premium because there are soooo many bad ones around college football and most of the bad to average teams don't have access to the quality ones in recruiting. What's easy to forget is that while ND is trying to poach "Big fish" from smaller schools, smaller schools that have money to spend are looking to upgrade their rosters by buying your deoth guys that are an upgrade for them.

Would it shock you if I told you that a mid tier ACC or MAC schools might have offered him something like $300,000 for 2026 to play a prominent role on their DL? ND might have said something like "we'd love you to stay for half of that, and likely far fewer reps". Can't really blame the kid for taking the better offer if his primary goal is maximize his income and get a chance to put reps on film for the NFL and he isn't primarily concerned about trying to win a College Natty.

Those schools will not back him if he were to get hurt like ND would, Nor will he have the connections the ND provides.

These young adults need better people in their corners. I get it a lot of them didn’t have this kind of money growing up, but be smart about it. Quit letting your parents or agent pimp you like a 50 cent hooker.

I hope they politicians get involved and tax them 20 or 25 % at a minimum.

He has an ND degree, what are you talking about?

Agents are hired to quite literally get you the best possible deal. Don’t hire a realtor next time you buy/sell a property don't contribute to the increasing housing costs sell it for what you purchased it, come man, don’t be a cheap hooker.

How do you think the tax system works. I’m genuinely curious on what you think happens with NIL payments.

The kid has an ND degree. How do you know he's not about to head to a quality school (let's say a Virginia type school) to get a free Masters Degree to pair with his ND undergrad and twice the income ND was willing to pay him?

Guys have to be willing to look out for their own best interest.

If he’s worried about playing for money he isn’t worried about school.

Based on the depth chart I’m looking at I think you misspelled first string.

Cheeky, but damn man, you can't be that simple minded.

Depth chart now says he's the starter, but the depth chart on January 1, 2026 was never going to be the same on September 6, 2026.

That's fundamentally untrue.

There are tons of kids that know that their NFL chances are slim and that they'll need their education down the road. But it's insanely expensive for a young person to get started in life, so if they can get paid six figure dollar values during their years of college eligibility, it's going to make it much easier to buy their first house, start their investment portfolio, etc.

You assume every kid is a moron, getting bad advice, but that isn't true at all. This kid might be able to go to a smaller school, get a Masters Degree, yield $500,000+ in compensation over the next two years and use that to catapult him into a life of success.

I help send kids to colleges every year. Many of them are Mukam type development projects. A lot of those kids are highly self-aware and know that the while playing in the NFL is "the dream" that there is a secondary opportunity to set your life up for success by obtaining college degrees and making really quality money while playing college ball.

I hope you had a good Christmas, I doubt we see you much the next few weeks when news starts rolling in. Did your ex-wife get you anything good?
Crazy to think there's an "ex-wife", I think it's more - did the cam model give you anything special, or just the usual pay piggy treatment?

I am guessing Mukam has a bunch of MAC offers to come and play for $250 k...not. Let's get real. Kids are going to move and not all are going to make a good decision. Let's not pretend they are all going to cash in.

It's not just about cashing in outright. I don't know Mukam's situation exactly, but it's 100% true that a lot of top programs are basically cutting Rev Share substantially to depth players, in order to ensure that their starting caliber players are competively compensated such that they don't get poached by other peer programs.

It's been widely reported, for example, that ND is in the game of giving large (six figure) signing bonuses to high school recruits to get to them to South Bend. However, beyond that first payment, their future Rev Share is based on playing time / production. Therefore, if you got paid $200,000 as a freshman, and didn't play, ND might be re-negotiating you down to $20,000-$50,000 in year two, saying that they'll re-negotiate heading into year three and re-evaluate your worth depending on your value to the program at that point.

If you go from making $200,000 to making $50,000 and you don't see a reasonable path towards you getting back to that $200,000 (or more), you might just look around... If some mid-tier program says "you're making $50,000? We'll pay you $100,000 to transfer and guarantee playing, giving you the opportunity to be productive and make even more next year." That's enticing for a lot of guys.

If you don't think that's happening all over the country, I don't know what to tell you. Lots of kids are transferring with that in mind.
