It's not a done deal, but Eric Thomas thinks LSU is in the driver's seat for Marsh.

Irish Illustrated crew on today’s pod said LSU is out front. And followed with not exactly what you want to hear when the admin says they’re all in. Take that for what it’s worth.

Grade issues? His HS wasnt great so wouldn’t surprise me if that’s hurting us.

This is always the disconnect with ND. People have alluded to there being roadblocks with taking transfers that can't/won't graduate -- and that being a thorn in Freeman's side -- and then people get all "oh they're going to fix it though"... but do they?

Look, if we are flat out getting outbid for people then it is what it is. But we better get with the times on 1-year rent-a-players especially at positions of need. The idea that a rent-a-grad-transfer is fine but a rent-a-junior is some affront to God is just semantics by the administration.

Very frustrating.

why even bring him in for a visit if they're not going to admit him? Seems like a complete waste of time.

In last year's portal class, Stanford took 4 undergrad transfers who had just finished their true sophomore or redshirt freshman season. The schools that they transferred from? Colorado, UCF, Idaho, and Texas Tech. The year before, they took a kid who spent 2 years at Northern Iowa. If Stanford is having no problem taking 4 undergrad transfers in a year then there is ZERO excuse for ND to not do the same thing.

II didn’t say anything about the admin. It was Eric Thomas and he said he heard LSU is involved as the drivers seat and that’s not what you want to hear. Not sure where you’re inserting this admin being all in part from. Like 38 minute mark

To clarify, I have no evidence or information about it being the case that they won't admit him. LSU might just be offering a more attractive package. I'm just responding the hypothetical about arbitrary boundaries.

II has really bad on this issue. They pointed out how this was a problem in the past, but they are basically silent on this now or brush it off as “well it’s how ND operates, we do well with the grad transfers”. Seems like they refuse to criticize ND’s issues and whistle past the graveyard.

I think Marsh is a very solid player, but I don't think he's anything special. Maybe he has a little more agility than Fields but idk if he'll be as reliable.

Despite the ridiculous buyout they had to pay to end the BK experiment, they’ve seemed to double down w/ Kiffin. NIL had to be a major component to his hiring & they don‘t want another failed hiring so money is probably not an issue for buying players. And Kiffin is still renowned for his high flying offense so that’s got to be attractive to Marsh after he sees the financial offer.

Yep! Once could argue that it is better to take an underclassman where you have multiple years to educate, shape and mold the kid in the manner that an ND educations strives for.

I don't know who is definitively the best WRs in the portal class but I do know that ND got in touch with Marsh immediately. In general, ND needs to aggressively land:
1. 2x NFL caliber WRs
2. 2x NFL caliber DTs (this is harder than the WRs)

Everywhere else on the roster is basically fine assuming you don't have any surprise leavers, with the exception of OL but I don't see how you bring in transfers there with the amount of highly rated young depth that they have. Could add some other pieces in other places but it isn't a guaranteed "must have"... but to win a championship next year, you NEED CJ Carr throwing to 2x elite playmakers plus Faison. Like if you had Jeremiah Smith and Ryan Williams it's game over for opponents. you're not going to get those guys, but you need to get guys as close to that caliber as possible. You cannot waste a guy like CJ Carr by having mediocre weapons around him.

I think we're at the point where Freeman is going to put names on the board to land in the portal and the question will be how much they offer to land them.

We're at the point where academics are basically a non-factor. If the admin wants to play semantics, I guarantee Freeman is going to walk then and there, as he should.
