The D has been sketchy the last few games, going back to K.C. when Rice was left so wide open on several key drives.

First team in NFL history to start 8-2 and not make the playoffs. Ballard doesn’t have Jim to protect him anymore. I’d be stunned if the daughters don’t clean house

I watched the game last night from IU North hospital with my 88 y/o Grams last night. Nurse told her to stop cussing at the TV. Didn’t matter, Grams was mad.

The team either starts extremely slow, pulls themselves into fringe playoff territory and then crumbles.

or

Starts off fast (like this season) even being a mid season favorite for the #1 seed, and then again - completely crumbles.

Either way Ballard has never overseen this team to a division title and only one playoff win in eight years. Steichen does well with the offense most of the time but consistently lets the defense look like complete shit and ruin any chance of making a real run each year.

They both need to go.

Even with their best players out due to injury? They’d at least be 10-5 and in the hunt.
Yeah I mean, it’s just one excuse after another. Shit, SF didn’t have Purdy half the year, and they didn’t implode. Injuries happen every year, your fallback plan cannot be “let’s pull an old QB out of retirement”. Yeah, I know ARs injury was flukey too…. It just doesn’t matter when there is enough body of work to tell you it will ALWAYS be something.

Plus, just getting decimated on national TV matters. You can’t survive that.

Yep Ballards tenure as GM has been built on excuses. Luck retiring, injuries etc etc. He’s just not that good at constructing a roster. He’s always rubbed me the wrong way with his I’m smarter than everyone else attitude

To be fair, the defensive backfield has been riddled with injuries, but this goes to Steichen and Lou. The D game plan was terrible. No blitzing and soft coverage. I expected to see them step up after halftime, but they looked just as bad.

I have not been impressed with Steichen since his second year. Time to go.

Matt Taylor told me to hammer the Colts ML last night. I texted his brother this morning asking for a damn refund. Lol.

I won’t be surprised if Irsay cans both right after the game.
There's a side of me that feels like Carlie wants to give them another shot and runnit back because of all the injuries that happened.

But I also feel like there's a side of her that thinks "what makes it feel like it's going to be different next season?"

Like I get being injured, but it's really freaking hard to be 7-1, 8-2, let alone have a 99% of making the playoffs, and still somehow miss it.

Truly good teams in my opinion, don't collapse just because of injuries. There's gotta be coaching/GM malpractice involved.

The colts just need a fresh restart, I don’t care about injuries. The reality is they have one playoff win and zero division titles since Ballard has been in charge. No GM deserves to have a leash that long. And that’s not even factoring in this all time collapse of a season

I think Irsay spending all the time on the sidelines is evident that she knows that she will have to make that decision. She wants to have as much data as possible. I’m curious to know what her relationship was like with Ballard and Steichen prior to JI passing?

I think the most likely outcome would be Ballard axed and Shane to stay. There’s going to be quite a few openings this time around and I’m not confident the Colts can find a better HC than Shane on the market. What I’d love for Shane to do is give up play-calling duties. Hire an OC. Be the head coach. This is where my offseason plans get crazy because I would:

+ Try to trade JT and some package of picks for Joe Burrow.
+ Let Pittman walk.
+ Resign Pierce.
+ Draft JD Price.
+ Address OT, DE, LB, DB in the offszn.

I’m pretty much with you on everything you said here. The D line is the MAIN issue - no matter what, we’ve gotten zero pressure without blitzing. That can’t be. I think Anarumo is good, but I’d be ok letting him go too.

Rivers was at Mass yesterday in the pew in front of us. Looked to be pretty sore getting up and down from the kneelers. I can’t imagine doing what he did at his age. I’m a couple years younger and have days where I feel like I can barely get around let alone go play football with a bunch of athletes half my age.

Funny side story: My wife got a last minute invite to the game yesterday and was on the fence about going. Then we saw Philip at Mass and I said, “I think you have your answer.” 😂

Awesome!! Rivers seems like just an all around good person. I think it’s cool that he’s flying in his HS players in to see the games.

Steichen at a minimum needs to give up play calling. He starts every game strong then can’t make adjustments after the D has the offense figured out. I didn’t mind going under center, but he never used play action once the D loaded the box.

Would Cincy really trade Burrow?

My lady just randomly asked if Carly has fired Ballard and Steichen yet this morning. LOL

Not that I’ve heard yet, babe…

Voice of the Colts’ brother went to the Rose Bowl today. He just sent me this pic.

It’s crazy how good Matt Taylor was before we even knew. He does a better Don Fischer or Harry Carrey impersonation that you’ll ever see.

Edit: my pic apparently is too large to share
