There's two power conferences (SEC and B1G).

SEC has the CFP advantage between the two because the network that has their TV rights also has the CFP TV rights.

The ACC and Big 12 are the next tier down. Again, the ACC will always have the CFP advantage because of their deal with ESPN.

Then there's another tier down to the Group of 5.

We need to get out of our shitty deal with the ACC.

We have 4 choices:

1) Total independence - increasingly difficult to be able to schedule a good enough schedule.

2) ACC-esque deal with the SEC or B1G.

3) ACC-esque deal with the SEC AND B1G (5 guaranteed games against each plus Navy and Stanford).

4) Full membership in the SEC or B1G.
How about 2-3 vs each P4 conference and a couple of bye games? Navy and Stanford can go away for all that I care.
Other sports could go back to the Big East

Absolutely. Join the BIg 10 and schedule Navy and Indiana State/Ball State for out of conference. Sail in.

I want to be independent and control the schedule. We just can’t front load the schedule anymore.
I don't think the latter is really possible with the BiG and SEC going to 9 conference games.and all the other conferences being dogshit.

So if I'm a conspiracy theorist, which I'm not, I'd guess conferences, people in charge, ESPN, Disney, etc are trying to strong arm ND into a conference to gain control of the ultimate cash cow. Simultaneously, it seems it's gonna be really tough going forward to schedule games.
I know he is not liked by a lot, it seems, but kinda wish we had Swarbrick in our corner right now if that was the case to help fight for our independence.

Bama plays like total ass for over a month, loses horribly to #3, doesn't drop.

BYU plays pretty darn good besides their Texas Tech game, has a bunch of late turnovers to lose big to #4, drops behind Miami.

It's all obviously bullshit. They weren't going to leave the ACC 100% out and there was too much politicking for Bama. Is what it is.

I still cant process that Alabama snuck by a dogshit Auburn team and got flatlined by Georgia and ended up ranked HIGHER than they were.
Yeah, as someone alluded to earlier there was no way the SEC flagship program was getting left out two years in a row.

Would completely undermine the image of the whole brand given the state of some of the other SEC marquee programs like Texas, LSU, Florida etc….

Yup. It's just going to be too difficult to build a schedule that will give us enough respect to get in (outside of running the table).

I left joining the ACC off of my list of options, because fuck them.

It would be the easiest path though, if we did have to join one. We routinely kick all of their asses anyway.

But, fuck them.

It’s very easy to process once you accept it is an illegitimate process run by the vested interests of ESPN and the SEC that has very little at all to do with results and the field and nearly everything to do with ND stealing the field’s lunch money from the playoff run 12 months ago.

The ACC just guaranteed that ND will never join their conference.

Total nonsense. BYU performed similarly twice against the same opponent. Their loss should not have changed anything about the perception of them. Yet they dropped, Bama stayed put, and the corruption was on display for everyone to see.

The Head of the Committee, who is a current AD of an SEC school, told the committee to keep an SEC school at 9 and not drop them for getting blown out, and to re-watch the Miami/ND game? Huh. Interesting. Totally on the level.
No, that couldn't have happened. Surely just a coincidence that ESPN programming had th ND-Miami game on repeat for an entire day. ESPN wouldn't do something like that for one of their partners, they wanted ND in.

It's whatever, it's all a political process. I will take time to just say, "fuck off" to all the people who are ND fans on this board who are going to take victory laps over this. You were right, I hope you're really fucking happy.
I just wish someone, anyone; would get some airtime to make the points about how ND was clearly railroaded by ESPN/SEC back channeling/propagandizing. Not fair to Love, but would love (no pun intended) to see him in NYC (assuming they don’t screw him as well) look at Fowler or whomever & say ”Coach MF brought in Coach Holtz & the members of the 1993 team to explain how they got screwed for the NC despite H2H. So after you all at ESPN made sure we were left out for the same reason, we were hoping you‘d now honor the 1993 National Champions Notre Dame Fighting Irish”. Now that would hit like crack b/c he’s leaving for the NFL so he could give them the biggest middle finger on live television that would go viral for days.

It’s not a conspiracy theory, that is what is happening. ND pocketed the cartel’s paycheck so they’re retaliating. It’s simply the other parties acting in their own self interest.

The selection process has nothing to do with the quality of the teams. It's about satisfying stakeholders. It's amazing that

These people lie like they breathe. Last week ND and Bama were super close, and after Bama gets killed by 21 points they look better vis-a-vis ND? It doesn't make sense. As you say, they do whatever they want and just make up some reason.
