I think some ND fans think that since they believed ND should be over FSU in 1993 because ND won head-to-head, they have to take the same position now. I don't agree.
As everyone knows, ND wasn't ranked ahead of FSU in 1993, despite the head-to-head win, even though that game was played in November, not August, and even though 1993 BC was better than 2025 SMU and Louisville. 1993 set (or continued) the precedent that head-to-head is relevant, not dispositive. Matt Fortuna mentioned 2008 OU/Texas as another example.
It's like if the government passed a new law forbidding wearing yellow hats on Tuesdays. You might not agree with that law. But once it is the law, it is an injustice if it isn't enforced equally against everyone. It would be absurd to say: 'I don't agree with this law, so it shouldn't be enforced against Bob now, even though it was enforced against me yesterday.' It should either be enforced against both Bob and I, or not enforced against either.
