i made it through the 17th, but it was past 2:30 am, and I didn’t see any end insight. If only I waited a little bit longer.

I couldn't stay up. I turned it off after 10 or 11 innings I can't even remember. Sounds like I missed a doozie. Freeman strikes again.

Ohtani with the clutch HR to tie it, dude is unbelievable.

Now folks realize why MLB instituted putting a man on 2B in extra innings. Smoltz was spot on…practically every batter is trying to end the game w/ one swing. That leads to tons of pop outs & long fly outs. The one exception was Edman’s leadoff double. Roberts’ had Rojas bunt him over to 3B w/ one out. Smoltz had me convinced Roberts was going w/ safety squeeze. Made sense considering who was batting. Instead Call hits a weak ass pop up to SS. Pissed me off. On the bright side I’m glad Schneider didn’t walk Ohtani every AB b/c had he done that Toronto probably wins in regulation.

I said the same exact thing when the Tigers/Mariners had their 15 inning marathon in the decisive game 5. We don't need postseason games going until 2AM.

I'd be all for keeping the rule in the postseason. I understand why sports like the MLB and NHL do away with their regular season OT rules to end the games in a timely manner, but it's also not helping the bottom line if you are losing viewers on a weeknight.

I totally get that many might disagree with me, but the 2nd base rule works well in the regular season. It's not like it's a foregone conclusion that somebody is scoring. It brings the sacrifice bunt into play, intentional walks, etc. Plenty of strategy to still implement with it. Just get the game over < 1 hour in extras for crying out loud.

After last night I tend to agree. Everything revolves around the long ball so you can’t expect teams to change their stripes in the post season. I’m surprised Toronto couldn’t manufacture any runs that whole time as they were a team that rarely strikes out & were excellent at putting the ball in play.

I’ve always wanted MLB to reduce their regular season but know they never will. Owners…especially the ones unwilling to invest in their teams’ success…aren’t gonna give up that revenue. And I suspect to a lesser degree, it would lead to even more nuance & confusion to all the existing records.

I dont want it in playoffs. It's rare that it comes into play and those games go down in lore. I believe I watched a college hockey playoff game go like 5 OT's. At least with hockey, I dont think you can/should tinker with the playoff rules. The alternatives are shootouts (stupid way to decide a winner) and playing 4 on 4 or 3 on 3 which almost always favors one team over the other.

But for regular season, it is absolutely great to adopt rules to get the game wrapped up in a timely fashion. They play a million games anyway.

I could see them (at some point) adopting what they did for ASG this season. After a couple of extra innings, each manager chooses 3 players in HR Derby fashion. Whoever hits the most wins. I type that tongue in cheek b/c MLB is so obsessed w/ HRs & I get it, most casual fans only want to see the long ball.

I think you could institute the ghost runner in the playoffs maybe after like the 12th inning. It doesn't have to be right away and you also don't have to put them on second. You put them on 1st starting in the 13th and maybe put them on second starting in the 15th.

Or you just leave it alone...
Yeah, I'm not advocating for changing it, I'm fine leaving it alone. I'm just pointing out that there's a middle ground between the regular season extra innings set up and the postseason traditional set up.

Oh yeah, I’m dragging ass right now.
same. I feel like I’m at a national sales meeting where I stayed up too late the night prior & now I have to navigate meetings & presentations bleary eyed & groggy.

I’ve never been to Toronto but I know one thing, the baseball team is “tearing the cover off the ball”. And that pitching performance from Yesavage last night. Dude started in single A at the beginning of the year!! Outstanding

Congrats to Toronto. They earned it. Played fundamentally sound baseball all season. Worked ABs to perfection inducing a BB, getting a knock, putting the ball into play or simply getting a quality AB by making the pitcher expend 7+ pitches. Their hitting coach is going to be a hot commodity. Love their aggressiveness on the base paths, too. Wish more teams would play that way.

Even as a Dodgers fan, I love watching Vlad Jr bat. He eschews launch angle obsession in favor of keeping his bat through the zone longer and it pays off w/ him being one of the best all around hitters in the game. Same goes for Bichette when he’s healthy.

This is Toronto's to lose. They have pretty much outplayed LA IMO.

Dodgers still can’t hit yet won. WTH? If they’re going to insist on striking out every AB, they just put off the inevitable b/c Yamamoto can’t pitch tomorrow.

The ground roll double call was flat out BS. Another example of terrible umpiring.

Game 7 of the WS is always awesome.

It is honestly a pick ‘em game in my book. Scherzer is a HOFer but does he have that one last gem up his sleeve?

Ohtani (another HOFer but not for pitching) will throw hard and typically pitches well. But even if he’s on his best stuff, he’s still only good for 6 innings max.
