If I'm Freeman I would be calling Dave Aranda and laying the groundwork to bring him in as DC if he gets fired at Baylor.
Is there a Troy in the G5 ranks that would come hire Chris Ash as a head coach? No way we get that lucky a second time.

Does Aranda have options to move to another HC job if he turns things around at Baylor this season?

It would seem to me like he's either Baylor HC or gets fired and becomes the pick of the lot for big DC jobs.

It is true the landscape is different. Have guys won there historically is a question you probably want to ask yourself when looking at a job.

Again, all UCLA can do is call Mullen and his people. Gauge his interest. With their money issues, it's going to be a tough sell, but it's not like that's stopped anyone before. Mullen has come out, in mid September, and said he'll be back at UNLV next year. Words not really worth the air they were breathed into.

I'm wondering if he takes a third bite at the SEC apple if something opens up. He's definitely on his last shot at a bigger job if he wants one.
I could see him taking the Virginia Tech job if offered, that’s a nice spot.

Could get interesting after UF fires Napier, if they made a run at Kiffin and got him, Ole Miss would be a decent landing spot for Mullen.

I think VT calling Mullen would be a great idea.

My five calls would be Mullen, Silverfield, Chadwell, Sumrall and Chesney.

Tbh I think Napier would actually be a good fit at VT.
Napier is going to have to give up playcalling if he wants to be a HC again. If he would do that I think he could be a good "CEO" type. He can recruit really well and his scouting evaluations are really, really good which would bode well for a job like VT. The irony of it all is that Dan Mullen would be a great OC for Napier lol. Mullen can really coach and he's a great playcaller, but he gets lazy recruiting and is sort of off putting at times.

Why would we need someone to promote him? Fire his ass.

If he turns it around this season then they won't be firing him. They were great in his second season in 2020 going 12-2. Since then they've been 6-7, 3-9, and 8-5. They're 2-1 so far this season. If they win 5 or less again I'd think he's gone.

To the bolded, yes, that's why I'm suggesting Freeman should be in his ear already.

I suppose I'd like to see things improve, finish out the regular season 10-2, and see Ash move on without Freeman having to fire him. Ultimately the best case scenario as it was with the Ludwig Parker Affair.

I think you are right as far as Aranda goes. It would have to go badly for them to get rid of him now. His contract goes through 2029. Could be that if he gets fired, he takes some time. Maybe does TV. Maybe NFL. He'd be a DC commodity for certain.

I think subtly reaching out is a good idea and can't hurt, but the guy is currently a sitting HC. Subtly is the key. I think Freeman has enough of that, though, that he can get word to Aranda and his people as nothing more than a "what's up."
