While crazy things happen occasionally, I tend to think of states like Texas, Georgia, Florida, Ohio, and California as a great opportunity to recruit the back-up plans for the major state schools. In other words, Georgia might have a the #1 and #6 DLman in the county, and UGA will be all over them. As a result, UGA might have to slow play the #15 DLman. ND has a great shot to get that kid--and sometimes those kids end up being stars.

But going into Texas, Georgia, or Florida, or even Ohio and California, to get their top talent is usually a dead-end. We can snag the best OL from NC, or Missouri, Indiana, or Virginia, but don't count on getting the best OL from Texas. Ohio occasionally, but not Texas.

Even if the kid is hyper-focused on academics, Texas and Texas A&M can make quite a pitch. LSU, not so much, but Texas can.

Irish sources downplayed Ojo as a big factor on the board. Don't expect ND to be involved much at all moving forward.

I decipher his vagueness as a huge uphill battle for ND and they likely knew this. Seems they want to put their time into more priority targets that are already have great history with like Patrick & Ogboko, and also some newer targets where they like where they stand, ie Goodwin & McKeogh.

This could be green colored glasses, but most of NDs class is guys they were at least considered in the lead group for a while. And they closed the deal (maybe with some money). These commitments like Ojo to Texas Tech, Feaster and Wafle to USC are literally just last second throwing an unreasonable amount of money at a kid and the recruitment turns in a second. The only similar one is Premer but we knew he was quiet and ND was at minimum in his Top 3 with schools they should beat. These one offs are schools who were mediocre last year just going to a figure OSU, Texas etc won’t responsibly go money wise, though they probably could.
