Banning guns won't stop school shootings though

Over 100,000 k-12 schools in the US. Every single one has issues with cyber/internet/social negatively influencing kids to the point of mental and physical harm to children. A small percentage have a kid bring a gun in and a microscopic amount have a gun discharged on site. I believe the colloquialism is "swatting at gnats and swallowing camels."

Bullying existed before cell phones though

We should pass a law saying that it's illegal to bring guns into school
That's how we won the war on drugs!

I've said it before, schools will continue to be targeted as long as they're easy targets. Lots of defenseless kids in one location, not enough security. That's the sad truth. Some schools do a decent job, but it needs to be across the board.

I think it's a multitude of things. 1) There is clearly a mental health aspect - meaning we are falling short in a) early detection b) access to treatment and c) efficacy of treatment; 2) There is a cultural aspect to crazy people shooting up schools that captured the zeitgeist attracting crazed people to seek these mass shootings of schools (and other mass casualty events like that) that never really existed to this level before Columbine, and there really isn't a way to put that genie in the bottle); and 3) to your point schools are soft targets that are both a) expensive and b) unpalatable to harden in a way to blanket prevent school shootings (some of the Conservative ideas of giving every teacher a gun are stupid IMO and if you remember, some liberal school systems either chose not to implement or rolled back metal detector type technology because they thought it was racist).

I think the plan to blanketly ban guns a la the UK and Australia is addressing a symptom and not the actual problem (which I think lies mostly in points 1 and 2). But at the least I think that holding adults responsible if the state can prove irresponsible control over their firearms/poor judgement in giving a demonstrably troubled kid access to firearms is a good start.

Someone who is bent on taking lives will find a way even if guns were banned.

They're too busy worrying about protecting kids from gender ideology
I would rather have my legislation passed that protects my child from knowing what a gay/trans person is. Will need an armed vet in every classroom who can shoot anyone who mentions woke ideologies or is an active shooter.

Outside of the radical terrorists, tell me who I ever said I didn't care about.
Trans kids who have a target on their back because of the rhetoric in media that you share on this site.

Labelling of Muslim's who enter countries as trying to enforce Sharia law, despite acknowledging that you have done no research and are unaware of any specific laws that have been passed to further this.

Victims of gun violence at schools, you don't seem to think that reducing a crazy person's ability to have access to a gun would limit school shooting deaths. "If they want to kill they'll find a way" without acknowledging the difference between using a chefs knife and an AR.

So, I don't think you actually care about trans people's lives because of your opinions shared on their wellbeing and healthcare. I don't think you care about a Muslim person because you treat them as a monolith that just want Sharia law. And, you don't really care about the lives of people in school shootings because you can hand wave it away by saying that someone with a knife will be able to do the same damage anyway.

Please, you can save us the "well you know, I once had this employee who was gay and I liked working with them!" what actual positions do you advocate for that would improve the lives of trans of muslim people? Would you actually tell a Muslim person that you believe they all practice Sharia law?

Man, it must be hell in your head. I feel like some of you guys assume all the worst things about conservatives based on media, propaganda, and who knows what else. I know Irish#1 personally, and he's one of the kindest individuals you will meet. Even in fiery debates here he's usually the most level headed and never really says truly demeaning things about others. I think many would agree he's one of the more moderate conservatives here, or at least one of the least egotistical and respectable posters in general.

I asked multiple questions to clarify his positions. I'm simply stating what he has said. I don't take pride in writing this. I give people so many opportunities to actually defend their positions.

This is why I try to only stick to stat based arguments because the data can do the talking and not just culture war mudslinging.

FTR - I responded to Circa/Gladiator's vax comment last night with you in mind, as we both know that autism is not something to just be thrown around as an insult. Especially when it's unfounded in any sort of vax setting. Autistic people are some of the most kind and pure people you'll ever meet, and I know you agree with me on that.

I didn't see that discussion between Circa/Gladiator, but I do appreciate your kind words. I'll leave it at that in the spirit of friendship.

Swing and a miss. Unfortunately you’re so jaded in your opinions that you read into my posts what you want to. You see the world isn’t the same as doing someone’s tax return where it’s black and white. Get married and have a kid or two before you have an opinion on kids.

it also appears that jealous of my hiring practices because it doesn’t fit your narrative of who you think I am.

I guess, I'm left a bit confused on how you made the statement without doing any research, or is there a certain sect of Islam that you're worried about? "concerted effort to displace the basic foundation of the laws, religion and culture in England and turn it into a Muslim country ruled by Sharia law."

Would you say that Jews are governed by Hasidic Judaism, or Christians by Southern Baptists?

Then answer? You make claims and then refuse to answer why. Why do you believe Muslim's want Sharia law.

Gatekeeping compassion of kids because you think you need to have one is hilarious. I don't need to have a child to have compassion. You aren't Muslim, but you have an opinion on them? Seems awfully convenient.

I don't think you understand what the word jealous means. I have merit based interviewing practices and have hired people from all backgrounds all over the world. I don't tokenize them use them as a scapegoat for my opinions.

Still the most ironic part of all of this is the fact that his political party wants to turn the US into a "Christian Nation" while acknowledging that doing so would violate the Constitution.

Crazy to think someone who commits premediated murder would receive so much support. I get what a major pain in the ass healthcare providers are and their seemingly quest to deny most claims the first time around for the sake of profits, but murder?
