I would think people would be able to differentiate between a temporary shutdown effecting them and their job being eliminated.Schumer is willing to be the adult in the room here and made the pragmatic decision he needed to. After spending the past 2 months screaming from the mountaintops defending federal workers and defending spending on certain programs, the optics of the Democrats shutting down the Government and essentially allowing the average American to see that there are minimal impacts to their lives with a couple of weeks of keeping-the-lights-on levels of spending (I agree there are deeper implications, but the day-to-day impacts for the average American are relatively small), it would be counter to their overall narrative.
As much as I dislike the guy, it's a smart decision by Schumer. Approve the temp measure and take a victory lap for working across the aisle (see Dems are wiling to work together). Scoring brownie points with voters, then he can dig in when the real budget talks begin.I would think people would be able to differentiate between a temporary shutdown effecting them and their job being eliminated.

Schumer is a bitch.I find her personality to be very grating. That said it's hard to disagree with her here. Schumer is spineless.
People on the fence? Those that aren’t sure if they side more with him or AOC? It’s a good strategy IMO.Which voters is Schumer winning over?
I just feel like Schumer is a known quantity. Does more damage to his Dem base than getting new supporters.People on the fence? Those that aren’t sure if they side more with him or AOC? It’s a good strategy IMO.
I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I agree. LolI just feel like Schumer is a known quantity. Does more damage to his Dem base than getting new supporters.
lol I don't think people on the Left like the Dems as much as the Trump cult has taken over the GOP.We saw the Trump numbers. Democrat favorability at 29%, the lowest in 30 years. 52% of Democrats and Democrat leaning independents think the party is going in the wrong direction.
We Could use like 20 more Sinema’s and 20 more Collins’ and our republic would be considerably better for it
The entire government was set up to be pretty slow and require consensus to get anything done. From Lincoln to FDR to the entire post-war concept of the role of the federal government, the system does not work to tackle the large tasks that we've envisioned Washington to be able to accomplish. The Filibuster is one of those things that gets in the way. But I think the Filibuster is only a problem in light of the fundamental problem that our federal government is too large and unwieldly.I for one, think it is worth re-considering a repeal of the Jim Crow Filibuster.
We're only a few years removed from being told it was necessary to eliminate the Jim Crow Filibuster so we could reform all of our election laws in favor of one party. Few rationale D's still exist, but glad to see one, Sinema, roasting the crazies. The entire government was set up to be pretty slow and require consensus to get anything done. This is why I've said our SS should be put in individual accounts for us to manage..
This was the topic on Megyn Kelly today. The democrats have no identity. I might not agree with the Republicans and Trump but they at least know who they are and how to appeal to those people. Democrats whole campaign is were not Trump and morning of substance after. It's kind of crazy to watch how that happened after Obama. They've totally lost their way
Their identity is to try and be the GOP-lite, it's pathetic and they deserve to lose until they actually listen. They trotted out crime bill Joe in 2020 after the whole George Floyd thing, and then decided to run his historically unpopular VP as like one of a handful of people that could lose to an incredibly unpopular person in Trump. Now, they have decided to have Cuck Schumer shit his pants and give the senate GOP an easy win.The democrats have no identity. I would argue their identity is not GOP-Lite, it's just anti-Trump. The problem there is that puts them in hot water on some very easy issues, because being anti-*everything* Donald supports means you are ceding everything, even his good/popular ideas.Their identity is to try and be the GOP-lite, it's pathetic and they deserve to lose until they actually listen. They embraced Liz fucking Cheney instead of their popular progressives who actually have policies that people want, but hey maybe running GWB's platform in 2024 is a winning strat.
They are getting absolutely trounced in the media. Every leading MSM program is conservative, you have Joe Rogan doing holocaust denalism but yolo because he's teflon and still the #1 podcast. Oh well, maybe the group of former republicans will be super popular! lol
I mean...it worked and he got more votes than any candidate in history. They trotted out crime bill Joe in 2020
Yeah, but you could have dressed any pig up with the anti-Trump stuff and gotten the same result IMO.I mean...it worked and he got more votes than any candidate in history.
The (obvious) miscalculation with Biden was him entertaining a second term.
A lot of what it comes down to is Democrats haven't figured out how to solve their "big tent" problem.Their identity is to try and be the GOP-lite, it's pathetic and they deserve to lose until they actually listen. I really doubt that. Kamala wasn't going to win 81 million votes. Bernies wasn't. Pete wasn't. Warren wasn't. If that was true, the democrats wouldn't have bailed and banded behind Biden so quickly in 2019/2020. Biden had the chops to preach stability. Most of the other candidates were seen as too progressive or didn't have the pelts on the wall to point to in the executive to prove they could settle shit down. I get you're being a bit hyperbolic but I think that ignores the slight panic in the party in 2020 when the primary was such a cluster fuckYeah, but you could have dressed any pig up with the anti-Trump stuff and gotten the same result IMO.
