With all due respect, can we not hijack this thread with food related questions, paranormal, politics or Six Flags trivia? This is the most educational, well put together thread I have read in years and I'd hate to see it lose that purpose. I love the jokes and sarcasm at times, but this might not be the thread for it. I still love you all, even the crazy ones.

100% agree, I'm usually good with the nonsense but I wouldn't nuke a good thread with it.....And ultimately run off good people.

Is there any insight into how Bowden is able to convince kids to commit so early, seems like it's his thing both at ND and now SC.

Doesn't USC only have something like three or four commits since his hiring was announced?

In either case, even prior to Bowden, ND's classes had become pretty boring in terms of early commits. Post-16 Brian Kelly had started doing a real good job of ID'ing fits for the program and when you ID those kids early in the process those commits tend to stick. That trend continued under Bowden/Freeman.

Does anyone have any insight to what happened with the Clemson weekend? Do you see those commitments sticking?

Combing through here, this seems too good to be true.

Lots of inside information that is actually encouraging and positive.

I hope this isn’t like Q Anon, where someone is feeding spoonfuls of BS to the gullible masses as a random thought experiment or social engineering project, and we are the said gullible masses.

Merck/Bua, calm us down about recruiting please.

Why should we feel good? Are we getting some hires soon.

What was the reason RJ Oben didn’t pan out? Was it that he added too much weight going into the season? I am thankful for his one play in the CFP but I think we were all expecting much more.

As usual there is never "a"/"the" reason.

Wasn't a great scheme fit in the end. Felt hopeless stuck between a SDE and WDE. Not a true Vyper type.

Got down on himself early. Some "effort" issues, but honestly, Oben is a good person..just mentally struggled with it not clicking the way they all hoped. Was always a great teammate though.

I still think it's a bit of a mystery to everyone, tbh. Just "one of those things"

Wanted to ground the above in a real world comp.

These aren't names ND used internally, just trying to provide some player types on expectation vs reality.

ND was expecting a guy who was going to be more of a Khalid Kareem type. Could play the SDE position but could provide some good bend on the edge as a pass rusher. Oben just wasn't that type of player, he ended up being more of an Ethan Johnson/Isaac Roschell type...still a quality player but just not quite ND expected.

Speaking of EJ, was he ever found?

Oben was known to be a pass rush specialist first and foremost

The floor of his run stopping was worse than expected but I can’t see them expecting Kareem out of him. That would be a pretty poor evaluation

Right..that's what ND wanted expected to a certain extent but they needed a guy who could rush but also hold up on the opposite edge if they were going to play Botelho/Traore/Young on the other side....just never manifested.. especially after ND bulked him up a bit.

This had to a mistake in retrospect right? He looked so damn slow out there.

Merck/Bua, apologies if this has been asked about and I missed it, but what do we think about this take from Horka?

The level of detail Merck is providing would be hard to create if this was a troll job.

Merck has been great and legit inside info. Bua seems more like a well read guy on team stuff and can articulate and analyze info well. Nothing screams inside info rather good analysis of what’s already been put out.
