I don't really understand all the Penn State hype? They were fine, good even. Nice that the RBs are coming back and they had a good OL, but they lose Warren and all the best players on their defense. Allar will still be Allar. James Franklin will still be James Franklin. At best they'll be what they were this year, a playoff team but not an especially scary one. Am I missing something?

We on the other hand have proven players returning at nearly every position. Just need to nail the QB choice. No biggie. ;)
They were 1-2 plays away from beating us and playing for a championship. Their RBs are as good as anyones next year. Their QB grew a lot from last year to this and continued progress would be a reasonable expectation. Their offensive coordinator is good. They have as good a chance as anyone to be very good.

Over analyzing. Weirdly worded. Probably nothing!

I don't know if Sneed transfers, but I think there are quite a few vultures with big holes to fill who are circling around players in timeshares and have big $$ to drop on them because they will be massive upgrades for their team. I think ND is going to do what they can to keep as many key pieces as possible, but I also think people should expect to see 10+ people enter the portal with not all of them being backups.

Agree. It’s college football so there will always be key players leaving and the need for new players to step up. They have a lot to be optimistic about. Would be surprised if they’re not in the playoffs again next year.

Hardly playing him in the championship game made zero sense we could have used his speed to get after Howard.

Will be very interesting to see how willing ND is to play the money game. Ohio State did everything they could to keep their team in place for a title run and it paid off. I’ll be pleasantly surprised if ND does the same.

Agreed, I think 1 or 2 may really sting.

Agree they should make the playoffs (Look at their schedule. 10-2 looks extremely achievable.) I just don't see them as a top three team, which is where they're being ranked in the too-early polls.
Carter and Warren are not easily replaced. Maybe Allar finally makes the leap but he's had two full seasons as a starter now and did not look good against us. They should have a good running game but do they have any WRs?
I don't know, just never been all that impressed with Penn State as an elite team, even if they handled us for a half.

Are you hearing this from your sources?

If ND can't retain Sneed over money in a year where we're not paying a transfer QB, that will be the final piece of evidence showing our NIL isn't serious.
I emailed RALLY the other day and was told that although fans can contribute to ND’s NIL for a specific sport via a wire transfer, there’s not a direct website where you can give to NIL. That’s not the case with the SEC schools and Ohio State. They have websites where their fans can donate. ND always has to make things harder. The team payroll was $7 Million this year. There’s no excuse for it not being in the $12-15 million range, annually.

The insider type posters (not the reporters) on 247 have been saying for a little while that everything is changed with ND's NIL now and that when it comes to retention, ND will not lose a player they want to keep due to money. We'll see how it plays out. Someone mentioned Love a while back when Oregon came after him and it was basically a non starter bc of the money ND ponied up.

I hope that’s the case.

Playing him 12 snaps against OSU certainly won't help (and didn't help in the game)

Hardly playing him in the championship game made zero sense we could have used his speed to get after Howard.

Someone graph a chart on Sneed’s season long snaps versus KVA’s snaps versus opponent 12 personnel

There isn’t some conspiracy on his PT in the Natty. KVA snaps up due to health, 12 personnel snaps due to OSU down. That was the result

Honestly I don't see any starters transfering. Biggest sting if he decides to leave may be Price but I expect Williams to be just as good if not better
I hope you're right, but if we are just naming guys who would sting for fun I'd throw out guys like Price, Greathouse, Shuler and Moore. Obviously this is message board nonsense from me. Both those guys listed have played themselves into a payday, and if they don't wanna choose "hard" all 4 could move on and basically only focus on football with school being put on the back burner.

I don't know why, but I have a weird feeling we lose Greathouse. As much as I love ND, if my son were a WR there and he started to look like a gamer. With ND's offense scheme and big question mark at QB, I'd feel we'd have to move on....Just is what it is.

Isn't this basically what the ROY app is for? Can contribute directly to any player on there

Money always makes a difference haha... like there is clearly an amount of money that would get him to stay. But it's also not that simple, especially with us potentially heading into the rev cap era.
Agree on the money part but I thought the cap had to do with the school’s payments not any 3rd party NIL.

I'm just not sure that's the case. If Sneed is unhappy, no amount of money is going to keep him - especially if he's got equal/close offers elsewhere.

ND won't lose him because of money, but ND offering the most might not be what keeps him, either. If the kid wants to be elsewhere, he'll be elsewhere; no amount of money would change that, and it wouldn't render ND's NIL "unserious" as the original poster indicated. Necessary and sufficient conditions are not the same thing.

If the staff isn’t confident that someone on the roster can win the title at QB, you gotta portal. Too many guys returning to waste a year developing growing pains with someone. I know we need to develop someone but it’s on the coaches for not getting CJ or Kenny more live reps this year. We need a proven commodity. The game has changed. If you can guaruntee Steve 3-4 seconds to stand in the pocket next year against Ohio State, Penn State, Georgia, even if the line gets depleted, and dink and dunk to a title, then so be it. If not, is he a championship QB?

I have a question.

I've seen multiple times here that Oregon made a run at Love in Dec. Is that allowed, or is that some sort of violation. Like can teams just look at guys and say "I want him, let's make him an offer" regardless if they are in the portal or not? Or is that just the simple grey area that can never be policed?

But aren't there countless examples of this being untrue in the NFL and in the workplace in general? I know tons of people who take the highest paying job rather than the one they "want".
