People need to get the reality that if you aren’t good enough to be playing by year 2 then you shouldn’t be upset if ND brings in transfers at your position if you don’t like it move on or work your ass off harder. Freeman has done a good job of this everyone freaked out when we lost Flores James and Merriweather and none of them did much this year.
Agreed. Also, I don't care what Freeman is saying. I'd be shocked if they don't bring in a QB. Keep the team focused for this playoff run, no need to worry about next year's QB now even with the portal being open.

Exactly they are saying they won’t bring in a guy if no one transfers chances are if Minchey gets beat out or Angeli one of them or both leave

And the rest of the season where he accounted for 30 TDs and has them in the hunt for a Natty.

He’s also the sole reason this team isn’t the #5 seed.

People love to rag on Angeli for taking a couple sacks against Purdue, but has shown multiple times he has a better arm than Leonard.

I like Leonard and think his mobility is important to the team’s success, but the Angeli slander is weird and unnecessary.

The problem is, if they all think they have a shot, any transfer out wouldn’t happen till after spring ball.

Greathouse is as much to blame for that NIU loss.

There's plenty of blame to go around. The defense struggled to get off the field all day. Receivers had drops, including a long pass to Greathouse. In hindsight, the coaching staff should've played Angeli when they decided Leonard wasn't healthy enough to run.

Mac Jones I believe
Edit: nvm he was a junior
Mac Jones would be a good comp. He was in his 4th year in the program. Long time backup. Lots of detractors at the start of the season.

Not saying Angeli is Mac Jones.

As others have stated, sacks are the biggest question mark. With our running game, as long as we avoid/minimize negative yardage plays, we will likely be very successful.

Mac Jones is actually a perfect comparison. But that was during Bamas peak, not sure I couldn't QB them to a Natty. Najee and Robinson Jr in the backfield. Smith, Waddle and Metchie at Wr. The TE and 4 offensive lineman all in the NFL.

I want a list of people who are in the camp of roll with what we got. That way I can make sure those saying they dont want a transfer aren't allowed to criticize the coaching staff next year for not taking one if we go 9-3 with one of Angeli/Carr/Minchey, or fall short of a natty due to bad QB play in the playoffs.

IF the coaches end up taking a transfer QB, I trust this staff that they know what they have and what they need to continue being a championship contender. That's still a big if.

I want to have one of our own lead us to being a championship contender almost more than anything... but I care about being a championship contender more than having one of our own have us be a 9-10 win team and not a championship contender.

I trust that Freeman knows what he needs to make this a championship contending team, and I hope he has every resource made available to him to do so.

So, you’re not going to criticize the coaching staff if they take a transfer QB and it blows up in their face ala DJ Uiagalelei? Lol.

Lol, ok. And if we bring in Milroe and he has a bad game we'll get you back too bud.

I’m cool with rolling with these 3 cats, but they better get some burners and dudes who can get open consistently.

Listen I’ll gladly eat crow if Angeli stays, starts, and leads us to 10+ wins. But there’s nothing I’ve seen from him that would indicate that he’s more than a Northwestern/Wiscy talent level QB wearing an ND uniform.

Minchey is a literal unknown.

Carr is literally hurt.

It’s unfathomable some of you are so averse to spending money that isn’t yours that could make your favorite team BETTER. And yes literally any name mentioned is better than our current QB room at present.

That’s fine, as long as Minchey or Angeli moved on and lit the world on fire.

My point is just I think the blind belief that our room is good enough when we don’t see them in practice, nor truly know what it takes to be a championship level team, is odd to me.

I want the coaches to build a championship team. Instead of just riding with our guys because they are our guys and our coach said next years QB is in our room now, even if it will hold us back in the end.

And I trust this staff wants a championship as much/more than me so I believe they will do whatever is going to get them closer to that.

So I don't know for sure that Angeli can ever be "the guy," and if I were to guess which one of Angeli, Minchey, or Carr is most likely to be a full-time starter for ND, my money would be on Carr... BUT those of you who think you know for sure that Angeli can never be the guy are full of shit. There isn't enough data to go on to be sure about him, and the limited data we have has shown that he's actually pretty good.

So sure, sometimes he holds on to the ball too long and takes unnecessary sacks. He has also shown he can make quick decisions and improvises well. Both things are true and it's possible he could get better at avoiding unnecessary sacks with more experience.

He's not a running QB but some of you think he's a statue. He's not. Coan was a statue. Angeli moves better than Coan and has shown he can improvise on his feet. And why would a running QB be a priority anyway? This year we needed a running QB because of our inexperienced OL but next year's OL should be much better, so a guy like Angeli who has shown he can move well enough should be fine as long as he can execute the offense efficiently.

I have no idea if he'll ever be good enough to be ND's full-time starter but the limited stats we do have show that the dude has thrown for 10 TDs with only 1 INT, a 72% completion percentage, and a 200 QBR. And I've seen him start a game and play at a high level, albeit against suspect competition.

Maybe he won't ever be good enough - but none of you know that for sure.

For me, it’s not so much about a 9-3 regular season. It’s about the QB getting experience, learning the system, and getting used to the players around him in the following season. The only way they get that is by playing time. It should be an investment. A junior year (2026) Carr might be even better than any one year transfer in 2025. But without gaining the experience of playing in 2025, he won’t reach the peaks of that 2026 season. The whole think of “Notre Dame plays for championships every year” is flawed because we haven’t even been competitive in those games for nearly three decades so I think if we continue to bring in one year rentals, it’s ultimately hindering our potential.

I'm in the minority here but I think we vastly underestimate the value in leadership and experience that both Hartman and Leonard have provided in the past two years. I don't love the mercenary model of college football, but until the rules are settled and some regulations are put in place this is where we are. In this model, a 4th or 5th year quarterback with proven leadership is an enormous advantage.
