If I got my timeline correct
- The feeling was ND had their QB of the future.
- A couple weeks ago Tom Loy said ND was "big game hunting" for a QB
- Freeman said in the post season press conference that ND is not looking for a QB in the portal.
- A "reputable poster" on the II boards said ND has a deal for a QB in place, its in the $4M range
My feeling is who is this "big game QB"? It certainly possible that ND is actually trying to get a QB and denying it publicly. But all the QB's that have been named in this thread are hardly big game. I don't see a Caleb Williams, Kyler Murray, Joe Burrow, Justin Fields out there that is worth that kind of money. You all think Jalen Milroe and Quinn Ewers are worth $4M? If they were that good, they'd declare for the draft.
Agree 100%. Also, Ewers doesn't fit Denbrock's offense. He has cement feet. Milroe ain't worth a single cent (As someone already said above). The whole Bryce Underwood bullshit that Meatchicken is doing is ruining everything else for any university, because they are desperate. We aren't, unless Carr is seriously in doubt. We know Angeli is a dude, and Minchey will be solid...and we got another pretty good one coming in. Don't think King from G-Tech is better Leonard, and there isn't a stud out there. But we also pay people a lot of money at ND to scout these guys, and have a GM...so we'll see. I trust whatever the staff does. Now...kick IU's ass!If I got my timeline correct

Agree with you 100%. Question I ask...would Will Howard get $4millon from us if he were a year younger? Likely not. There isn't one out there...ride with the guys you got. If Jack Coan can get you to 10 wins, then with this running game and defense Angeli, Minchey, Carr, or just put Mitchell Evens in at Qb, they can do it to.Again, I am not shitting on anyone. But some of these names makes me wonder if you all have actually watched them play? This is not a good year for QB's. Shadeur Sanders is the #1 guy in the draft. He actually does have nice game but he wouldn't be top 4 in previous years. Ewers is contemplating coming back because he is not getting the draft love he had hoped for. And even Texas fans are like "you can go". I really like Haynes King but is he big game?
Cam Newton was big game. These guys aren't even Bo Nix.
So maybe ND feels they need to go to the portal. it's possible. But if the market for these guys is $4M? There are better ways to spend that money. Because these discussions i'm reading on here reminds me of FSU going all in on DJU.
Also, whoooooooooooo!Any of the portal QBs are a no for me right now including Milroe and Ewers if they decide to enter.
Start either Minchey or Carr and roll from there into the new season.
Good points. He is freakishly athletic. Go back and watch him vs LSU this year...that game also might be because BK is an idiot. But I hear ya. If we have an Angeli like backup to go to, then maybe I would take a flyer. But I wouldn't give $4mil, which is likely what he is seeking (or his handlers are). It's a risk calculation and budgetary decision...something likely a lot of of posters deal with in normal life. Maybe Denbrock can say he'll turn him into Daniels, which gets him here...but someone above him has to pull the rip cord when he sucks.Milroe has his flaws, but his talent is undeniable. Over the past three years, he’s had to adapt to three different coordinators, which has probably affected his development. It’s possible Denbrock sees similarities between Milroe and Jayden Daniels, who he coached into a Heisman-winning quarterback. He may believe he can do the same with Milroe.
kind of agree, but the dilemma is very clear. Don't want him, but he's an upgrade. Is he better than a conservative Angeli with a great running game and a more experienced O Line? Maybe, or maybe not. I would prefer not to have a selfish dick at QBI'm not a Milroe fan for two reasons...1.) I've heard he's a selfish dick. 2.) You don't know if your getting Natty vs Michigan Milroe or the kid that went absolutely bananas against UGA 2 months ago.
But my very easy conclusion is this...there is no reality that we are in better shape taking a kid with zero game experience into Miami and then bringing him home against an A&M team with an axe to grind.. than Milroe who's thrown for 6k yards and ran for another 1500 while scoring 33 TDs against the SEC. Just my two pennies
I don't want him, but he'd be an upgrade over what we have in house.
Me too...but to think it's a *maybe between Milroe and Angeli is wild to me. I'm afraid the days of recruiting and developing kids especially at QB are going to be for the Pitts and Dukes of the world. The Bamas, OSUs and hopefully ND will always recruit.....but try to land the proven winner because it just makes more sense in this landscape. There are levels to this shit now...HS is level 1, studs at non juggernaut schools are level 2....and then you have the big time, it looks like ND (Hartman/Riley) are prepared to stay in level 3. Which is great, because it would sure suck to develop CJ for him to crush it and then jump ship to UGA....that will definitely happen if you look up and your 9/3 or 8/4kind of agree, but the dilemma is very clear. excellent take. We've done the xfer QB 3 years now (1 and done). It's been "ok", but Riley I think is taking us to new heights. We'll see. I mean, we're the team taking the 3 year developed QB's and integrating them into our offense. It's possible to do very easily...these players barely see a classroom anymore, and can focus on 100% football. My problem is...outside of Milroe (who I'm not sold on at all)...is there a Riley Leonard out there? I trust the admin/staff to find them....Me too...but to think it's a *maybe between Milroe and Angeli is wild to me. I’m not convinced, this isn’t the Bama he committed to. Why not improve his chances to win and play for a bigger brand at ND?A few of my thoughts about Milroe:
-If Milroe is looking, it would seem to me that it’s because Alabama wants to move on. How many teams would be considered an upgrade over Bama or offer him that much more money than them?
-While I’m not overly impressed with him as a QB, I think he a dynamic player that could play a role similar to Leonard for us. I think we would have to expect a couple of dud performances out of him over the course of the season.
-Lastly, and most importantly to me, if we’re wanting to pay Milroe $4M I doubt Carr/Minchey are sticking it out. I would give the coaches the benefit of the doubt on that decision, but it felt like this was our best chance of having an internal candidate step up as a starter that could lead us to success.
Not kidding about Horvath. He has the same type of stats Leonard has (at least today), maybe with less passing. Leonard can sling it when he wants to, unsure Horvath can. But with three stud RB's, just go all Wing T on everyone.excellent take. We've done the xfer QB 3 years now (1 and done). It's been "ok", but Riley I think is taking us to new heights. We'll see. here's an idea...what about Blake Horvath from Navy? Just watching this game, and how different is he than Riley with the right coaching? Maybe a little facetious, but kind of serious question.
If Riley was on Bama last year AND this year.....he wouldn't have played. I'm 100% certain Milroe would have been the starter. Just food for thought.excellent take. This squad with Milroe will be blowing teams out even more than the ‘24 squad.Crazy some of you wouldn't take Milroe.
Singleton from GT down to 5. LSU, Miami, Texas, Auburn Ole Miss. kinda disappointed we didn’t even reach out he’s a dynamic WR. Hopefully he doesn’t go to Miami.
Too may interceptions and dumb plays. Accuracy and decision making have to account for something a little more than athleticism. Also, if he's a selfish prick, then no thanks. Any articles on him giving back to community, or a charity or non-profilt he's associated with and/or information about the time of service he's giving to give back to anything? That might change a few minds.Crazy some of you wouldn't take Milroe.
You got a point, but that would tank the WR and TE room. And in 2024 that would be worse than Sandusky at PSU. In 1989 LFG!!Not kidding about Horvath.
