$4 alone as a number means nothing. Is that $4 out of $20? $30?

Expect the starting QB to be a decent percentage of the roster. What did Leonard and Hartman make compared to total budget?
I have said this from the beginning when numbers are getting thrown out in terms of what we may potentially spend on players at any position. There’s a lot of “I’d rather spend our $X on positions A, B, C.”

That thinking implies we ONLY have that amount of money to spend and implies that anyone on this board knows the total budget we have to spend on the portal. Our GM and staff are smart enough that they aren’t going to blow their wad on one single position when there are multiple needing addressed.

I dunno what industry you work in but most professional companies that employ any sort of skilled workers could never sustain turning over one-third to half their workforce every year. It's insane.
Could only find 3 teams that had 1/3 of their team brought in new players, if you're pushing out 1/3 of your team then you already know they aren't going to cut it.

Even if you say 20% (17 players) - most industry turnover averages are around that mark anyways.

This all of course ignoring the fact they're coaching football they're directly contributing to the turnover of the rosters themselves.

Rare Driskell W. There is no way ND is paying 4M for any QB currently in college football
Just like when he said Denbrock was not coming back to ND. Look, they may not get anyone out of the portal this year at QB, but they would be dumb to not check who may be interested every year. That’s the way college football works now.

I really think it’s Milroe. Denbrock has coached against him. Buchner was also his teammate. Rees his coach. Fits the offense. Cache to convince transfer WRs no matter how poor he is at times. Would warrant top $ type billing. Also a one year rental so may be approved by Carr.

Every other realistic name seems hardly an upgrade or a fit (besides Ewers as mentioned).

Devonta Smith CB for Bama just entered started at Husky for them which is our NB I think. Would replace Jordan Clark he’s from Cinn also followed by Bowden

Specifically he said “We have no plans on going to the transfer portal for a quarterback”

Plans is the operative word. If Minchey and Angeli were to transfer and CJ Carr were to be hurt, plans would clearly change
Said this - He can 100% cover and back step with this - "This is new information."

Why would anyone pay Milroe a single cent? Dude is a trash.

The odds are greater than 50% percent that 2025 Milroe is better than sophomore CJ Carr coming off an injury.

Assuming we don’t Shit the bed against Indiana, We will have a lot of momentum going into next year, which I’m sure Freeman doesn’t want to squander. I get Taking Another transfer quarterback.

It makes sense you’ll have one of the best OL, best RB room, if you get the right transfer WR room can be top 15, defense returns tons of young talent, DB and LB room should be top 5-10 each.

Was watching some of Fernando Mendoza's film. At 6'5", a decent passer, and a QB not afraid to tuck and run, thought he could be a good fit, but he's in the portal now and looking at 4-5 other schools per reporting. I still think Noah Fifita with AZ could be a good fit, likely just needs the right coaching, esp. QB/OC coache(s), to get him back on track.

Jennings is SMU's starter lol

Do you mean Preston Stone, the starter that lost his job?
No Jennings he would be in his 4th year next year but tech have two come to ND and play on the big stage increase your draft stock. SMU will be lucky to have another good season

Nd aint gonna break the bank for a backup. It would have to be a sitting starter or high ceiling backup like Arch

No they won't break the bank.

Stone is not a back-up QB. At least not his skill set. He was third-team All AAC in '23, 3200 yds 28 TDs, .60% comp...

I don't know why he was benched. He was a little rusty in his first two starts of the season, but he was coming off of a broken fibula.

That being all said, Stone isn't transferring somewhere without given a near guarantee to start.

Lucky? How so.

They are going to continue to add good players in the portal. The ACC is a weak conference. They can easily repeat. Rhett Lashlee is a great coach; players will want to play for him.

Jennings is also from Dallas. SMU is the hometown school.

At the end of the day: Nd>SMU. Leonard is from Bama and chose us over Auburn. These kids, especially qbs, know where the potential is

Hell Marshall can't even play in their bowl game due to losing too many players to the porty! Sounds like the school admin in not securing their HC is a big part of the problem here.

You think he is a worse passer than Leonard?

Milroe is an elite deep ball thrower. Denbrock’s favorite route is slot fade. He’s a poor decision maker under 10 yards. Leonard is generally been the reverse this year. Effective enough short and nothing down field.

Huff went 10-3 but was offered a new deal. They straight up didn't believe in him. His players did. Makes sense why they are all bouncing, and most will go to Southern Miss

Not rereading like 10 pages what happened to make people actually think we are getting a qb now?

If I got my timeline correct

  1. The feeling was ND had their QB of the future.
  2. A couple weeks ago Tom Loy said ND was "big game hunting" for a QB
  3. Freeman said in the post season press conference that ND is not looking for a QB in the portal.
  4. A "reputable poster" on the II boards said ND has a deal for a QB in place, its in the $4M range

My feeling is who is this "big game QB"? It certainly possible that ND is actually trying to get a QB and denying it publicly. But all the QB's that have been named in this thread are hardly big game. I don't see a Caleb Williams, Kyler Murray, Joe Burrow, Justin Fields out there that is worth that kind of money. You all think Jalen Milroe and Quinn Ewers are worth $4M? If they were that good, they'd declare for the draft.
