Saw Rudolph and Elder play St. Ed's last night and I was pretty unimpressed. The Elder coaches were horrible. They probably would have beaten a young Eagles team, if they would have thrown to Ruldolph more. I don't know exactly how many catches he had, but I counted about 3, all for minimal gains. Little surprised we were able to pull a win out over Elder. Go Eagles!

Eagles players celebrate the victory over Cincinnati Elder
at Lakewood Stadium.

"Our St. Ed's Defense had their best performance of the season to limit the Elder Panthers (ranked #10 in State, Division I) to one score for a 10-7 upset win at Lakewood Stadium. The win by the Eagles avenges St. Ed's loss to Elder in the 2003 Division I State Championship game, the last game before then St. Ed's Offensive Coordinator Scott Niedzwiecki left to coach at John Carroll University.

Now Coach Niedz is back as our Head Coach, and this win (the 3rd in a row for the Eagles) must be sweet for all of our players, coaches and fans. Suddenly, St. Ed's is back in the State Division I playoff hunt. The Eagles touchdown came in the second quarter on a run by Brad Staples. Eagles Kicker Kyle Bates added a field goal and extra point. Congratulations to all of our Eagles coaches and players!"

( forgot my camera, might be able to get some pics of Ruldolph from someone)

Via BGI:

Kyle Rudolph (TE): Rudolph is an absolute standout, but after a great start to the season, his team has lost two straight. In the biggest win in recent Elder High School lore, Rudolph caught 4 passes for 57 yards and 2 TD’s in stopping Independence (NC) High’s 109 game winning streak. Rudolph is also doing a very good job as the team’s punter, including a huge fake punt for a first down in the victory over Independence. He has four TD’s on the season.

The Cincy Enquirer has an article on how Rudolph isn't going anywhere:

"My decision is made, and it's final," Rudolph said a few days ago.

We can't go more than a couple days without someone asking if Rudolph still intends to play for Notre Dame. In fact, someone asked the other night at the Kings-Turpin game:

"With Notre Dame being so bad ... is Rudolph still going there?"

Don't worry.

"Whether they're 0-5 or whatever, that doesn't have anything to do with it," Rudolph said. "They're young, and everyone knew this might be a tough year."

Rudolph said he constantly hears about Notre Dame's poor 2007 season.

"People say, 'Maybe you should go here or go there,' " Rudolph said.

Ohio State, Michigan, Tennessee and Virginia were on Rudolph's radar before he announced for Notre Dame in March 2007.

"I think they're showing signs of getting better," Rudolph said. "I know some of the guys on the team. I want to be part of it getting better next year."

Rudolph, through Friday's 49-33 win over Moeller, has 20 catches for 302 yards this season (15.1 yards a catch), with five touchdowns. He also is Elder's punter, with a 37.3-yard average. Elder is 4-3 on the season.

Over the summer, Rudolph accepted an invitation to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl all-star game. He made it official in a ceremony last week at Elder.

..

For the moment, there is no bigger Notre Dame football fan.

"When they do get that first win," Rudolph said, "it's definitely going to be a really good feeling."

:)

That catch he had vs. Independence was ridiculous. Triple coverage on 4th down and he comes down with it.

Kyle's season ended last night. Unfortunately they ran in to the #2 ranked team in the country in the first round of the playoffs.

ESPN 150 tight end Kyle Rudolph grabbed seven receptions for 79 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's game. The Notre Dame commit looked good, but Elder was overmatched and lost 45-14 to powerhouse Saint Xavier (Cincinnati), the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Just something i found funny on Rivals.com:
In their updated 100, Rudolph is #20, a 5* and it says "Rudolph should thrive in Notre Dame's offense. Had 10 touchdown grabs as a senior."
Blake Ayles is #31, not that far away from Rudolph, he is a 4* (if he were #30, he would be a 5*). It says for him "Ayles is the nations most well-rounded tight end. Averaged 14 yards a catch in 2006."

To me, they make Ayles out to be the better tight end, if not the better, than pretty dang close. However, if you look at their position rankings for TE. ND is #1 with 1 TE and has 110 Rivals points... USC is ranked #6 with 1 TE and has only 55 Rivals points... Just found it to be funny.

they haven't updated their team rankings since the new release, what i find odd is that USC's OL averages over 100 pts per player even though some aren't five stars.

I cant wait for Rudolph to get some game time for the Irish. I think he is going to be a star for us. That could just be my bias due to living in Cincy now but I think he will continue the trend of top TEs at ND.

Our depth and talent at TE is plain scary. I don't know what defenses will do 2 stop Rudolph and Ragone at TE and Floyd, Walker, Kamara, and Tate at WR....my lord.

Has anyonegot any info on any possibility of Fauria being looked at as a lineman? Or was that rivals talking out their a**? Personally I think I like the idea of Fauria as TE along w Kyle Rudolph, because of the challenges it will do to the defenses.

Anyone? Anyone? Buler?

-------Fauria is going to be a Tight end and tight end only as said by his own mouth. Rivals likes the pretend they are college coaches of a specific team and get creative with future positions.

Thanks, IK. I was thinking I had just missed out on what everyone else new. With such a big class of deep quality, it allows some of these great kids to slide alittle under the radar.

I have some ND players as Myspace friends. I don't know about posting the pics from their websites, but Kyle looks gigantic compared to even guys listed at 6-4, 6-5.

A part of me still wants him to red shirt so he and Ragone have an extra year of separation.
