One thing i dont really understand is everybody saying this is the worst OSU team in years. Many of the same people who preach our recruiting rankings will never win us a chanpionship. This may be the first year in a while that OSU doesnt have an all-world college QB, but the roster is littered in every class with high 4 and 5 star talent. They havent finished lower than 5th in team rankings since 2019. They have recruited as well as anyone the past 5-8 years, and the star power in their 2021 class is showing out. McCord is the next big time QB for them and was a big time recruit. He is just young.

For all the negatives you can say about our staff they had the team coached up to play toe to toe with a roster that has a clear talent advantage from a star power perspective, and we have a ton of talent showing up in our fresh and soph classes. If one of our QBs pan out, we will be right there for the foreseeable future. Just need to make another play or two in one of these games and get over the hump. For as bad as the D-call was on the 3rd and 19, it was that good on the DJ Brown missed pick. They had a great idea what OSU was looking to do and had the perfect play call. Browns just gotta make that play.

I have two young children (6 and 3) that I put to bed during the game last night and when my youngest woke up this morning he said to me "Go Irish!" It was the last thing I said to him last night and the first thing he said to me this morning. I was over it at that point.
It sucks, of course, but I have bigger fish to fry.

Despite the result, the fibers of the bond it is creating with my son means as much as any "W".

Tbh If you would have told me McCord would play like that, I’d have thought we’d lose by 10-15.

He was asked about the 10 men. He said he knew and he told his guys to stay off and just go with the 10. He's telling you he's responsible for it. That's his answer. Not sure how else to spell it out for you.
He didn’t know they had 10 the play before, this is a much bigger issue than he realized 20 minutes after game

We'll see how they look the rest of the year.

There are multiple people in this thread who have tried to explain the situation to the folks on the short bus. That you don't understand the logic is more a you problem than a MF problem.

Ludwig with this offensive line and running backs would be beastly. Guarantee they run the ball down OSUs throat on that last drive and are kneeling it at the 1 yard line.

I can't understand people upset at Golden at all. Held them to 17 points and they had to earn every inch, and that's without any turnovers.

We have two NFL tackles, star QB and RBs and put up 14. It's on the offense, guys.

If you offered anyone in the country 17 points for this OSU team every one in the country takes it, Georgia included.
They definitely left a lot of points on the table. I’d have a real look at Shrader too…can anyone else kick?

I’ve had a bit of time to digest the game from last night with not as much sleep as I’d like…….a lot of mixed feelings that I’m sure I’m not alone on. The Irish certainly had opportunities to put the game away last night and for a myriad of reasons, it didn’t come to fruition. Coaching errors, player errors and some referee poor calls were all in play like with most games, wins and losses. It was a crushing loss when it was so close to a win. Maybe it’s human to nitpick at every shortcoming in the game because there were plenty of examples and it’s easier to do that in a loss. However, it also my belief that MF still has this program on a positive trajectory. He made mistakes and will make more but I’m going to remain optimistic that his head and his heart are in the right place. I want to see how he and the staff can get the team to perform at Duke, that will tell me plenty. ND was ONE play from beating OSU last night (and not just the last play). I really think they are getting close.

Next week is huge obviously, it would be a trap game after we won but we didn’t… team has to play their best game next week or it’s a lost season if we lose

Corners were great. Morrison was a dog (despite a couple of badly missed tackles in the first half.

Defense needs to finish. Poor tackling all around.

Hopefully the safety recruits on hand will see opportunities under the dome.

OL looked dominant at times.

We need a pass rush.

You’ve done your best explaining the logic behind his decision, but many don’t want logic, just different levels of repeating how amateur the move was for the coaching staff and heads need to roll. Everyone with an eyeball knows it was a terrible mistake. As you said like four times, Freeman handled it the only way he could as the leader of the team, by owning the decision as his. Anyway, initially I was pissed at the loss, but now the worst part of the game is that this is what it’s going to be remembered for, because people aren’t going to shut the fuck up about it for years.
Because freeman didn’t even know at the podium yet that 2 plays in a row we didn’t have 10 out there… he thought it was just 1. It wasn’t identified until a few minutes after his interview started it was actually 2 plays in a row

It’s one thing to screw up a single play with substitution, to do it two in a row, after a timeout, and 37 seconds between the two plays is beyond ridiculous

The logic is stupid. He forfeited a foot for an extra player exactly where they scored the TD. Nobody is their right mind would ever do that.

They’re trying to save face by making it look like a conscious decision. If it was. It was the dumbest coaching decision of recent memory.

It wasn't just a foot. It was a foot and an extra play. It's pretty clear you don't actually understand the situation.

:07 left OSU goes with 12 personnel which means ND puts Kiser in and Harper out. Rubio, JJT, Cross, Mills on field
11 players are on field.
ND calls time out. Puts Harper in (goes nickel)and takes Kiser out. Believe also means Botelho in for Rubio. Rubio is out and Some reason Botelho does not take field. Only have 10 on field. Incomplete pass. OSU puts in new RB, ref stops snap to give ND opportunity for personnel changes….37 seconds pass …no personnel changes for ND. (Why Bertrand, Liufau, or dline doesnt recognize no 11th guy for :37 secs and 20 coaches watching is anyone’s guess )….TD

I know Duke is a good team, but ND should still handle them with relative ease. We’ll see how they respond. Having to go to sleepy Durham after a demoralizing loss will be telling. That said, USC and Clemson will be much more telling

The extra play? Guess what, if they score there isn’t another play. Which is what happened. The logic doesn’t hold up unless you are here to carry Freeman’s water.

I don’t know whether I agree with the decision. And it was clearly a fuckup to not catch it after the last play.

But if you run a guy on, a flag gets thrown. OSU gets to run a free play like with an offsides defender. So they get two plays to score then even if the clock hits 0:00.

Alright enough with the arguing.

Something we can all agree on - ND should have substituted when OSU did and went heavy with 2 tight ends. We were stuck in nickel. We should have absolutely went back to base D or goal line D since we had the chance to sub. I would assume this gets all 11 on the field and in the right package for a short yard run. That’s the real question of why we didn’t do that instead of why we didn’t have 11 guys.

Imagine getting upset about anything said in *this* segment. Literally doing a parody interview with a second Lou Holtz 😂. So much so he doubled down in his post game presser saying he’s “more respectful” than Coach Holtz.

I finally got around to watching this.

Lou Holtz is an icon. That was hysterical and the man still can bring the heat. The fact that Ryan Day got offended by that bit underscores even more how soft he is. I expect OSU to get stomped by Michigan.

I'll spell this out for you since you're still having problems and you've acknowledged being a mental midget.

The play isn't blown dead for offsides alone. It would need to be an unabated to the QB or an encroachment, otherwise OSU gets a free play with 10 men in position and the 11th man nowhere near the line, let alone the spot where the ball was run. So nothing in this scenario changes the outcome of the play that resulted in the TD. However, even if in some alternate reality the play gets stopped, it doesn't matter because now OSU gets another shot from the 1/2 yard line.

Hopefully not a situation that ND has to face too often but let’s also hope it was a very tough learning experience so it never happens again,
