The worst way to make a point is to say well if it wasn’t for such and such, this or that, frick and frack, or smick and smack we would’ve won.

We were actually down by double digits almost the entire game. After 8 minutes into the game they were up 10-0. We only closed it to less than double digits for 4 minutes after that. Second half started 17-7, 24-7, 24-14, 31-14, 31-21, 38-21, 38-27. That is not a competitive game in the slightest. But, yes, if you excuse away every valid reason why they beat us I understand how you reach a different conclusion.

KVA and other big time recruits do not care about what happened in 2018. They care about now. They care about next year. They care about recruiting classes, swag, drip, and winning.

This is a huge game with, likely, national implications for rankings and recruits.
A lot of losses especially nd losses were clearly the lesser team. Last year it came down to they picked up a tough fourth down we missed an easy fourth down. We lost our fumble they recovered our fumble. These plays creates a comfortable lead all game for usc. Critical players matter as you know, this game just has a few early on that made it impossible to recover from due to their qb.

My original post used words like “could” and “might”. No speaking in certainties of his position or character here. Someone like Rushing, winning likely doesn’t matter because the money never changes. Guys like KVA, Beasley, Shaw, Nelson, etc. Those are guys that have shown genuine interest in ND and big seasons can help that.

Winning big games matters to recruits. USC is a big game.

My push back was because this is KVA's thread, I'm simply stating that in this case, the result of one game probably won't matter. ND getting a kid out of Bosco is extremely difficult. Of course I agree with the general premise that winning games matters and winning big games matters and going 12-0 matters, etc. But ND is in a battle on multiple fronts w/ KVA when it comes to getting him out of Southern Cal and winning/losing this game probably won't move the needle much for him. That's all I'm saying.

I also pushed back on USC being the equivalent to OSU and Clemson's of the world, but we can agree to disagree. Outside of what is projected of them for this season, USC hasn't done much. So I just don't see how that's a justifiable comparison. Three or four years from now, if USC has multiple CFP runs and a NC, then yeah, put them in the same tier. It'd be warranted. I'm not suggesting they can't get back to those early 2000's days. They just haven't been that team since Pete Carrol left essentially. Maybe KVA wants to be a part of their come back tour. Or maybe he wants to leave home because he sees the bigger picture at ND. Idk. Guess we'll see.

I wonder if Freeman has focused more on offensive recruiting and left the D to those he trusts.
I haven’t really seen many of the offensive commits citing Freeman as the reason though.

Carr, Williams, Williams, Larsen were all at Irish Invasion & were heavily recruited by Rees.

Jones - HH
Knapp - Rudolph
Prescod - HH then Rudolph
Lambert - HH then Rudolph

Young - DMC
Gilbert - Stuckey
Canion - Stucky

Regardless of which Freeman camp you fall under, we should all be able to agree kva is the exaxt type of kid Freeman should be our differentiator for.
At least that is what i felt we were sold when he was hired. Miss on this guy and others like him, doubt will start to creep in....

We all rely on you
I’m not confident because it’s the dead period.
Which means ND can’t really do anything unless KVA initiates first.
But on the other hand, KVA’s friends, teammates & coaches can hammer him every day on going to USC.
So USC will be getting their message to him while ND can’t.

We do have his parents in our corner. Not saying that’ll end up to anything but still have a voice.

True but that doesn’t seem to be a big plus most of the time. Good parents will give their opinions then let the kid make their own decision.

Well, if he goes to OSU, we can’t say that the staff didn’t try or that there were inconsistencies in his recruitment. There was a year gap between visits from the 2022 to 2023 B&G games, but he was always a top priority throughout.

Getting a Cali kid on campus twice in a two month span is quite remarkable.

OSU has a higher success rate for LBers (in an NFL draft context) and have one of the best 21st century CFB linebackers “coaching” the position.

As much as I like taking a flyer on Kahoun & Rezac, two long, rangy athletes that can run, ND really needs to stabilize the LB class and the LB room moving forward with a proven recruit that can atleast guarantee you some sort of higher floor.
