I haven't read a single thing on this yet, but my gut says this is really bad.

I'll wait to see the details, but just the fact that the merger is happening makes me think the PGA is getting bent.

I could also see a big-time pushback from current PGA members. Want to make your displeasure heard loud and clear? Sit out the US Open in two weeks.

Trying to do some digging on this.

Initially it looks like there will still be three separate tours? The money will come from Saudi but the board of directors will consist of people placed on that board by the PGA. Lot of unknown here but yeah, the gut says this sucks...

That was my first thought, a massive strike.

Wow - none of the players had any idea this was coming...Rory must be pissed.

European tour is merging with the PGA and LIV as well. Not sure if it’s good or bad. Similar to the AFL and NFL merging in the 60’s and the ABA and NBA merging in the 70’s. Hopefully they take the good parts of each tour and this stops some of the infighting and makes golf better. Probably will see an increase in purses across the tournaments so will eventually be higher payouts to the players. I definitely do not want to see music blaring and other “non-traditional golf” happenings from the LIV tour.
This was my thought as well. Players were strongly opposed to the 3pt shot after they merged and now it's key to the game.

What a slap in the face to the players that stuck with the PGA.

They just can't stop tripping over their own dicks. They had the moral high ground (which was all BS, obviously), and the better set up (i.e., final rounds meaning something for the players, lack of guaranteed money, non-team events).

We going to set up blaring speakers at Amen Corner now? Are they just going to stuff cash into the mouths of the PGA pros who stuck by the Tour? What a galactic mess.
Always found it funny that in basketball you can have 17,000 fans screaming at you when you're trying to hit a free throw, but they want complete silence while a guy gets ready to hit.

Just saw this myself, what a disappointment. I guess it proves that if there was enough money involved, they would say to hell with their principles. Too bad.

Except the US Open isn't a PGA event.

Sure hope Netflix covers this in season 2 of “Full Swing”.

Lesson of this shit show, always look out for #1. Rory has to feel like the biggest jack wagon right now.

Reading an article in The Athletic, I'm coming away with the thought that Jay Monahan just became super rich.

If the big name players who stayed are pissed, which they probably rightly should be, they should get together to discuss their own breakaway league. The PGA just showed how weak it is. Exploit that, even if just to negotiate for the same level of compensation that the LIV guys got. Or if it really is about more than the money for them, they could form a league without the BS LIV rules people didn't like.

It's always about the money.

What rule differences did LIV have?
Fewer tournaments
54 holes as opposed to 72 holes
Shotgun starts
There was a team element to LIV
Guaranteed money
Crowds were "rowdy" - music was often played over loudspeakers on the course
Dress code for the players was different - Clothing was LIV driven as far as sponsors go- they also had a more relaxed dress code (shorts)

but what about all that Saudi blood money? Did he invite the 9/11 families to the announcement?

Headed to tomorrow's practice round and then the opening round on Thursday. The pairings are sick. Love Brooks and Rory paired together. Going to be straight fire.

Wyndham Clark was pretty damn good. Guy isn’t a pretender with that driver and short game.

Friday I'll be playing a recently opened course at the new PGA HQ in Frisco. Includes a caddie. Will be +100 degrees (will probably get good rolls in fairways).
Samesies. What time you going off? We have Early morning tee time at the east course

I played Whistling Straits this past weekend as part of a bachelor party. What a beautiful course and we lucked out catching it on a day that wasn't too breezy. Happy with my 94 considering these days I get out a handful of times a year.
I played in a bachelor party this weekend too. Harbor Links close to the IN/OH boarder off of Brookville Lake. Course was awesome with plenty of holes right off the lake. Will be back for sure.

Thinking about heading south to Bloomington this weekend to play IU’s course. I hear that’s a gem too.
