Funny how everyone is scared shitless that CFB is "ending as we know it" now that the players are getting theirs.

So it goes.
This is why professional sports is hard to watch. Imagine Derek Jeter playing for the Cubs, then the Mets and ending his career in Boston after starting with the Yankees. That’s sports now.

I think what's hard is that we as fans/alums are deeply loyal to these schools in a way (many of) the players are not.

That has long been true, of course. To (many of) us it's, like, a way of life, something we were handed down by our parents and hand down to our children and share with our friends. To (many of) them it's a three or four-year apprenticeship program en route to the NFL.

But this free-agent bazaar of everyone flipping everywhere on the first Monday of the offseason kind of strips away any veneer that the loyalty goes both ways. I don't blame the players at all. I don't think it's the "end of college football." I plan to keep watching. But I get why it's unsettling.

What are they getting?? Only 1% of college players make to pros. Not all these players are gettin NIL deals if any that will be life changing. There is no guarantee they will start or see the field after transferring. Sure, I will turn down a $300k free education to be a benchwarmer.

They can now move like the coaches do.

Loyal to the Irish until the end. Knowing MF is in charge helps me to stay calm.

The pendulum will swing back toward the median eventually. This isn’t a sustainable practice.
You are correct. It’ll work itself out after a few years, but it’s chaos right now. The pasture isn’t always greener on the other side. A lot of kids will transfer and still not see the field, some will not even find a landing spot and eventually, the NCAA will realize kids aren’t graduating at unprecedented levels. This will be the worst impact of this. The goal is to graduate and has been lost in all of this because only 1% of them will sniff the NFL.

Just always remember, the millionaire coaches were the first ones to move with no accountability.

Like this offer like I said should bring in at least two WR transfers. Need about 6-7 guys who are reliable can’t be playing the same damn 3/4 guys all game. Styles, Thomas, Colzie, Merriweather. Two transfers and get some of the freshman feet wet

Sure. And that, plus the schools that got fat on tv money while refusing to compensate players, is what started this. The supposed adults in the room are the ones who got us here.
The compensation is a free education. Without football most of these kids would not be going to college. Companies make billions off their employees. Does that mean every employee should get a million dollar bonus??

O’Malley had an article today that he’s expecting around 16 transfers. Unfortunately, part of those 16 sounds like it will be 2 maybe 3 surprises.

One major difference is the players are the product. Not the case for most jobs. Ratings would be pretty poor watching Bob dick off at his cubicle all day.

If schools actually prioritized the education part, then maybe that helps restore the contract of amateurism. But most don’t (Notre Dame being a noble exception). Schools have very little credibility here when they’re funneling football players into phys ed majors and processing the bottom of the depth chart out of the program as quickly as possible, all while using the TV money to fund bloated athletic departments.

As for the second part of your question. Yes. Yes they should.

Keep hearing this from various people who cover the team but where are these transfers? So far only 3 announcements (five if you count the guys from over a month ago). What are they waiting for? The portal is open

They don't need to put their names in right away. Most of our transfer announcements last season came after the Fiesta Bowl. A few other transferred out in February and in April.

I know it has us all feeling some anticipation of sorts, but the news and announcements will come gradually.

Nope, that’s why I’m currently teaching my 2 year old son how to form tackle the dog. Going for a scholarship and NIL funding from Purina.

Careful with that! Did the same with my now 5 year old. He just got sent home for repeatedly tackling class mates in the snow

Not going to be happy if Tobias or any of the young LB's are among those surprises.

If you work for IBM are you prohibited from making money off your personal YouTube channel?
