“I’m definitely a baseball guy first, but my love for football is equal to baseball. I don’t love one more than the other. My goal growing up was to play both sports for as long as I can and not really take the decision to just pick one. I’m taking both as far as I can go.”

So the first half the quote - not good I thought. Then that second half though, playing both as long as possible, Dylan Lonergan the Bama commit said almost the exact same thing. That kinda peaked my ears more than anything so far on him.

This kid would definitely prefer to play UCLA baseball and football IMO. Maybe ND is trying to coax them to drop Luke Duncan LOL

I probably like his film more than most. Also was a guy who loved Books film back than. That said, I want guys who aren’t playing football for a hobby. Is he doing it because it’s fun and wants to hang with his boys? Cool. College football ain’t for you. Take that first round money man. Wish the kid the best. Obviously a decision. IMO. Not a hard one.

The more I think about it, the more I'd like him to be our QB "commit" in this class. Tommy boy sucks at identifying talent and there's a good chance this kid takes the 1st round money. One less wasted scholarship on someone, given Tommy boy's track record, who likely won't light the world on fire. Also, since Tommy Boy won't be back next season, it'll give our new OC, who will almost certainly be an upgrade, a chance to find someone late in the cycle or take 2 grad transfers.

First thing I ask myself if I'm a D1 program looking to win a championship is whether or not the QB knows the proper way to throw a football as a QB. He has excellent form for a SS.

And to everyone giving Rees a hard time, I get it. I really do. I wrote the book on it 2 summers ago.

But isn’t Freeman supposed to be recruiting all the important targets? What’s more important than QB? At what point does this also become the failure of the HC? Who the heck is in charge of this thing.

I completely understand your point, but I think Freeman deserves to have his pick at OC and the chance to attract a quality grad transfer QB. Swarbrick didn't give him the chance to pick his own OC and he inherited a mediocre QB from Rees/Kelly.

Judging something based off a perception of what’s deserved seems like kinda a convenient out

He did have his pick at OC, he picked Tommy Rees.

Ultimately, it is.

We’ll, by the same logic, don’t you have to also attribute Rees’ previous underwhelming WB recruiting to Kelly’s laziness?

If MF doesn't step in then it is as much his fault than Rees.

I agree. Rees was also an example of nepotism. I don't recall Kelly having a thorough nation-wide search for a OC. I wouldn't be shocked if he just waddled his fat ass 10 feet down the hallway and knocked on Rees' door and promoted him.
