I’ll keep saying it until I’m blue in the face. WRs and OCs matter more to a team’s offensive success. We’ve had the QB recruiting.

There’s a reason why OSU has such an incredible offense every year, yet none of their QBs have recently panned out past college.
I'll take any of the OSU guys who didn't pan out in the pros over some of the dregs we've run out here.

They at least produced at OSU.

We get servicable QB play they get elite QB play.
I can think of 2 teams that would have achieved more with elite play.

OSU has found good/great college quarterbacks. Dual threat guys that can pit other players in space and in ideal situations. And they are creative on offense.

You’ve been waiting a year for this to come full circle, haven’t you?

Last year Buchner was a true freshman who'd played one season of high school ball. Coan had taken a team to the Rose Bowl (and I suspect Wisconsin wishes they'd kept him around). Recruiting rankings aside, that's not a fair fight.

Buchner should be better than he played yesterday, no doubt. But I wouldn't give up on him just yet.

Really ND needs dual threats? Isn’t that what has been recruited for the last several years? Beside Fields was Dwayne Haskins a dual threat? Is Stroud really a dual threat? Seems to me that is all that’s really been recruited at ND for some time. Short dual threat QBs that can’t hit the side of a barn, and that can’t work through progressions without tucking and running! I’d rather have a Joe Burrow or Mac Jones that can hit a receiver, especially with the kind of OLine and TEs that are recruited here.

I should have used more words. Good/great QBs that fit the college game. Also dual threat guys that allow them to put their other guys in space. They are also creative utilizing their skill position speed/skill. Didn’t mean to make it sound like they are running out with Braxton Miller every week/season.

He’s a project. I’ll say it until I’m blue in the face. This is Notre Dame. HC, OC, QB… Notre Dame deserves better.

Hire Dante Moore's father and uncle as analysts lol. On a more serious note, we all hoped BK/Rees would be able to identify and develop QBs if they whiffed on the big names. Unfortunately they not only whiffed on the big names, but they also suck at developing QBs. Coan was developed at Wisconsin. Book was best when improvising and doing his own thing and was still not coached to not run out of bounds behind the line of scrimmage. Rees got undeserved credit for Book's success against lesser opponents and no criticism for the offense's utter failure against good defenses. Now we have no QB. It's the most important position on the field. This is on Rees 100%.

And i am starting to think Rees gets to much credit for Book. Maybe a lot of Book was him putting in effort and practice and wanting to be better.
IMO, Book didn't get better after 2018. You can't help but wonder if his stats were inflated due to his surrounding cast. In 2018 was throwing to 2 NFL draft picks at WR (Claypool, Boykin) and TE (Mack, Kmet), and had a NFL draft pick at RB (Williams). He also had 6 OL during the course of the season blocking for him that are now in the NFL.

On the other hand our WRs in 2020 were Skowronek, McKinley, Davis and Lenzy. Not a bunch of world-beaters. And Book was an NFL draft pick himself.
Tommy has his issues but I’d give him credit for Book, at least.
