I was just looking at the Scout database (which I know is often wrong) and saw that Miami currently has 7 soft verbal recruits -- six of them from Defense

Patrick Johnson, CB
Marcus Forston, DT
Ramon Buchanan, WLB
Lerentee McCrary, WLB
Sean Spence, WLB
Jeremy Lewis, DT
Davon Johnson, WR

Looks like Davis at UNC is the big poacher in this instance as several of these guys are going there for a visit. Is Miami the Nebraska of the Southeast?

Could South Florida's rise and sudden popularity be having an effect on Miami's recruiting?

Not as much as miamis fall. These guys are going to check out what butch davis is doing.

Could you imagine Marvin Austin AND Marcus Forston on the same defensive line? With the triple team on Marvin and the double on Marcus, NC could run a 2-5 defense (not really, but that would be a scary dline).

IMO, the SDSU game has the biggest implications of them all. We need to come out and roll over them, to get some positive momentum going.

Amen. SDSU is a big game for the players. IF we lose that game they might start to say here we go agian

i'm putting my game of the year on washington. if we win nobody cares but if we lose the pundits will go apeshit over how weis' recruits cant beat ty. they prob already have the articles written with blanks for the stats on each side.

of course we'll win in my mind.

If that happens I'll join the Fire Weis ranks in a hurry...

I mean I'm giving him a pass this year but next year I better see some beat downs...

I don't want to hear about no 6-6 crap either...

If we lose that game, they will DEFINITELY start to say here we go again, and I will nominate Timugen for the new AD position.

I just read that Nebraska lost a WR and a QB. Good Lord!!!
If I was Callahan I would just quit. Bump it.

They officially lost two more, WR D.J. Woods and DT Darius Parish. That puts the total up to 6, 7 if you count Brandon Leslie backing out at the last min, and there are still more looking around and it seems like Compton is just a matter of time.

Wow. That's unfortunate. I'm glad to have Jonas Gray and possibly Robinson. But they look like they're spiriling downward and haven't even hit bottom yet.

I don't want to look ahead, but if we could get by Michigan (assuming we beat SDSU), whats to stop us from starting out 11-0? Michigan State, Purdue, NC, Washington, Pitt, and BC are all decent but I think we will be much better than they are next year. I would be happy with 8-4 next year, but 10 or more wins is definitely in reach.

That's exactly what I was thinking when I seen the schedule. Michigan may be in trouble next year. They're losing a lot of talent and possibly the coach.

First - Nebraska.

My mother-in-law lives out in Omaha and is a die hard Huskers fan. SHE is ready to throw herself off of tall structures at this point...but only if she could grab Callahan and make it a mercy killing...

The situation there is no where near as bad as ND (at least record-wise), but there are elements of the Cornhusker fan base that would be very comfortable commiserating with a lot of Irish dooms-day'ers about now...

Reminds me of the end of the road for Willingham when there were actually recruits saying that they were CHOOSING Purdue over ND for football reasons!

2008 Season....

This is truly a disaster of a season and there is no sugar coating that. The reasons are everywhere and exhaustively detailed already, but the single biggest addition for the Irish in the next 9 months is NOT the #1 recruiting class being assembled - with a few exceptions at skill positions, they won't be quite ready for primetime by September anyway. No, the biggest addition is going to be a full offseason for THIS year's freshmen and sophomores. The development year over year for them will be the tell-tale sign of how the season will go.

S06 SAN DIEGO STATE - anything but a blow out win is BIG ALARM BELLS!!!
S13 MICHIGAN - they lose a TON off of this year's team and will be in rebuilding mode for Mallet's Junior and Senior seasons...I think the Irish take this one.
S20 @ Michigan St. - "That's why your Michigan State"...for whatever bizarre reason they own ND Stadium lately, but conversely, the Irish own their stadium...Irish get some Mo' going..
S27 PURDUE - without their senior class and 5th years they are going to be back to Purdue of old - losing to ND by 3 TDs
O04 STANFORD - Win. Enough said...unless Bill Walsh's ghost can Haunt Charlie like his living body haunted Lou...
O11 @ North Carolina - TOUGH GAME...no one wants to think Butch Davis will have UNC arriving next year, but they probably already have this game circled as their "announcement / statement" game for next year...very concerning game...
O25 @ Washington - Ty will be attempting to line up his future employer by this time and the Irish will replicate the 2005 results; Locker may have a big game to keep them in it to the 3rd quarter, but Chauncey will find a way to lose a big game (again)...
N01 PITTSBURGH - If Wanny survives this year, its a blow out win for ND, If Wanny gets canned and Pitt gets a decent coach this could be closer than expected, but the Irish will be rolling by then...
N08 @ Boston College - Fredo goes out in the fishing boat....Al Neri (CW) comes back alone...BC loses waaaaay too much to be a legitimate threat in 2008...
N15 @ Navy (Baltimore) - win streak or not, ND will beat Navy on the biannual CBS telecast..
N22 SYRACUSE - Trap game! ND could be a undefeated or 1 loss team here...everyone in the media will be calling ND a fraud, Mark May will be practically incapacitated with hatred after the Pitt game and will be actively CHEERING for a Syracuse win, USC will be looming and the unthinkable COULD happen...but it won't...
N29 @ Southern Cal - THE game...for ND to EVER re-emerge as a national power, the Poodle must be beaten, and severely at that. USC will be stocked again as always and the hype-o-meter could be bigger than ever...a 1-loss ND team here will leave with 2-losses and be forced to settle for a Gator or Cotton Bowl...an undefeated ND team might be able to carry a season and 1/4 worth of angst into L.A. to avenge this year's disastrous season and even worse USC game...

Of course, my infinite wisdom had this year's team winning 9 games too!

Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves now. Otherwise we're going to end up making predictions like happened this season. Not many ND fans predicted less than a winning season this year, and right now 5-7 is looking pretty nice.. Let's finish out this year on a good note with the less than tough opponents we have and then we can talk about all the games we're gonna win next year.

you know whats funny, before the beginning of this season we were thinking in the same way.. boy were we wrong..

but next year we will have more experience, and more talent..
i dont know if i expect much out of next year, but the other teams better watch out for ND 2009 and beyond :)

i just hope i get accepted into ND so that i can experience it first-hand :)

I really see no way we don't win six games and get into a bowl game next year with that schedule alone... I honestly wouldn't be too suprised to see a BCS game again... but at this time I would expect six-seven wins...

I agree the talent should dominate most every opponent on the schedule. We won't have any question marks for our team like we did this year. We know exactly what we have to look forward to.

Keeping it in perspective.

Keeping it in perspective.

anything less than 8 wins and a bowl victory is a failed season IMO

At the beginning of the year I predicted 6 wins. Not bragging, just stating it. Anyone who follows ND football should have seen this coming with the exodus of the previous coach and the recruiting that was done. NOONE could have predicted 8-9 wins this year. Now, to next year. I think that 7-8 wins and a bowl victory like the Gator would be an outstanding season. I am tired of winning 10 games and getting embarrassed in the BCS. Lets learn to walk before we run, shall we? Now in 09 I expect to start challenging for the NC.

I agree 7-8 wins next year and a small bowl victory would be GREAT!!!! Anything less is not exceptable!!!!

09...10+ wins and a return to greatness...NO MORE REBUILDING!!! We will start to reload!!

My thoughts exactly. I predicted between 6-6 and 8-4. I definitely didn't expect the UCLA upset, then again I thought that the Irish would get by MSU (@ home) and beat either Ga. Tech and or Purdue as well.
