I have some doubts about him ending up at ND. Like OC said, if he thinks the Gophers are a better fit, good for him. I will still welcome him here, but deciding between the national exposure of ND and the big ten doormat gophers should be pretty easy. Wait and see is all we can do.

I think it comes down to being God for staying at home like Chris Donald said last year or going to ND and being just one of many. Not everyone has the balls to play a team game. Lets relax with this kid though because we've been his favorite (as he has stated) from the very beginning and he loves Weis and ND. We have the mother of all pipelines from his HS and he is the last BIG fish out there for us to reel in. I'm not worried, if he comes he comes we're not dying at WR like everybody says because most of our WR's are So. and haven't had a chance to explode onto the scene yet. If you can remember I think Shark didn't make a peep until his Jr. year, which is when by the way most players break out.

Does anyone else find it odd that just about everyone in that pic is wearing sweatshirts, jackets, and winter hats in the middle of Aug.?

he's at Minn. pratice is he going to wear a ND hat and a bucknut sweatshirt?

Well he could have worn a t-shirt and jeans, or maybe a tuxedo. ;)

I take it the reason for the fuss, though, is the disappointing fact that he's CLEARLY not a silent verbal ("If you're looking, we're looking" - and all that), and that we obviously have some real competition for his services.

I know its been said before, but that doesn't look like a fall practice to me, more like a spring practice. The weather in Minnesota has been in the 80's-90's this month, so I have a hard time believing that no one in that picture has shorts on, and are in sweatshirts and winter hats - I'm just not buying it.

So you're saying the Star-Tribune forged it, or something?

No, but it could be an archive photo from spring ball.

With this caption?

Linebacker Deon Hightower (left) broke up this Adam Weber pass into the end zone to tight end Jack Simmons during the Gophers’ only scrimmage of fall camp on Saturday.

I doubt it. The article notes that practice was held indoors because of rain, so there's a likely explanation.

Look, the fact of the matter is that signs have pointed for a while to this being an ND/tOSU battle, with this being the only indication that UM is still in the mix. That he wore a hat and sweatshirt from Homestate U to their fall scrimmage, though, obviously doesn't say much. The crucial point is that he's CLEARLY not a silent verbal (again: "If you're looking, we're looking"), and that sucks.

But hey, at least he wasn't wearing BUCKEYES gear to the scrimmage.

I think he should have worn a Tuxedo T-Shirt, because it says I want to be formal, but I'm here to party

LOL!

(I should also add that the article itself says that he was wearing a Gophers shirt and hand - the blurry picture isn't the only evidence. But again, I agree that his attire itself isn't a big deal. I DEFINITELY agree, though, that a tuxedo tee-shirt would have been a real winner.)

Never thought we would be able to play the nice weather card during recruiting.

Yeah, come up to ND where it's 15 degrees and snowing all winter, and 95 degrees and raining all summer. Booya.

not that i think wearing a certain teams sweatshirt means anything, but this guy really does give me a weird feeling... i mean, i really want him to be irish, but i just feel like something might not turn out the way that the Notre Dame nation wants it to turn out... does anyone else feel like this? maybe if he doesnt schedule any other officials, than i would feel better.

I agree, there just seems to be something about the situation that makes me think he's not coming. I hope I'm wrong, he's a great talent. Go Irish!

FINALLY, some GOOD news on Floyd. This from DD:

latest article on Scout sounds real encouraging in regards to Floyd and ND. Scheduled his official for the USC game and it appears to be his only one (so far)

Tough Tests

By Allen Wallace
National Recruiting Editor
Posted Aug 22, 2007

The only school in Michael Floyd's top five that he hasn't already visited is Florida. "They are a great team, but they have a tough schedule in the SEC and it'll be tough for them to repeat this year," Floyd said. "It'll be a tough test for them." Another tough test that Floyd is looking forward to is the Ohio State/Michigan game. "I think they'll both do really well this season..."

Michael Floyd, the 6-foot-3, 200-pound five-star wide receiver from Cretin Derham High School in St. Paul, Minn., will be taking his official visit to Notre Dame for the USC game on October 20. Floyd has 22 scholarship offers, continues to deny a leader, but says the Irish are recruiting him the hardest.
"It's a cool place and the people are great," said Floyd, ranked by Scout.com as the nation's No. 7 wide-out and No. 5 in the Midwest overall. "I really got along well with them and had a fun time at the camp this summer. I just found everyone easy to be around. They are a winning team and every year their goal is to win the national championship."

While Floyd denies a favorite, he says his leaders are Minnesota, Notre Dame, Florida, Ohio State and Michigan. All of his favorites have offered. "I just want to find a place where I'm the most comfortable and where I fit in," Floyd said.

The Gophers are only 15 minutes away from Floyd's house, but he insists distance isn't a factor. "The new coaches at Minnesota are very intense," he said. "I love the excitement they've brought and all the players are really pumped up for the season."

Another tough test that Floyd is looking forward to is the Ohio State/Michigan game. "I think they'll both do really well this season," Floyd said, being as politically correct as possible. "Michigan is bringing back a lot of their offense - so it should be a great game.

"Ohio State is always tough and they've got a great recruiting class this year," he said. "Also, I already know a few guys there and I have a great relationship with their strength coach. They run a good system."

Another coach that Floyd has developed a good relationship with is Michigan's wide receiver coach, Erik Campbell. "I know they produce great wide receivers and I really like coach Campbell," Floyd said. "They have new facilities and their weight room is amazing."

Floyd denies any timetable for making his decision.

Cretin Derham plays their first game on Aug. 31 against Forest Lake.

He reports a 3.2 core GPA and took the SAT in June, but says he hasn't gotten his results yet. "I've got to get them from my school," he said

I can't blame a kid for wanting to wait and weigh all of his options to find the absolute best place for him...but damn, for my own well being I wish he would pull the trigger and choose ND already.

I can't help but wonder if he wants to wait and see how Minn starts out with the new coaches and all to make his final decision, because ultimately I can't imagine that the decision involves anyone other than Minn and ND. Therefore, lets all hope that Minn gets off to a horrible start and Floyd realizes that its worth leaving home for a soon to be national champion.

LMAO, maybe a mullet too. Business in the front, party in the back. I like it, can we get a photo of someone with a mullet and tuxedo shirt; john, someone, anyone?

First, there are no silent verbals to ND anymore, and personnaly, I like that. Second, he will be deciding after the football season. Unless I start seeing pictures of him in a speedo and hearing stories about him working on his front side 3 1/2, I'm not going to worry or get a "weird feeling".

Sorry, I got nothin' for you on the "mullet and tuxedo" front. But there ARE still silent verbals at ND, just not SOFT ones. The policy is "If you're LOOKING, we're looking" not "If you don't ANNOUNCE it, we're looking". The problem with Trattou and the Littles had nothing to do with silence, but with continuing to shop around after they'd "committed".
