I didn't know Minny almost lost to North Dakota St., that is hall of fame terrible. Of course, IU lost to 1-AA, Southern Illinois last year, not the Big 10's finest hour. Now hearing this, if Floyd is remotely interested in the Golfers, then he may well deserve them.

I know this is off topic, but the Big 10 schedule is one of the reasons why I don't like our schedule with mid-majors, or the worst team in a BCS conferance. I know nothing will ever be done about it, but it's sad to see powerhouse teams schedule lowly MAC teams or even worse, 1-AA teams. I know we get killed in the media for Nevada, Duke, and Baylor, and I realize it's a necessity, but back in the late 80's, early 90's, when I started getting into CFB big time, I used to hate seeing powerhouse teams role up 65 or 70 points on a team that had no business being on their schedule. It would be embarrasing to know some team like Texas or OU would run up a score on some Directional St. Tech. This is how most of the Big 10 has gone. IU, who couldn't make it into a Bowl game, sure as hell tried to schedule their way in. They lost to UCONN, and 1-AA power Southern Illinois at home. Penn St., probably my second favorite team, is scheduling FIU, is that a legit college? JoePa should have just gone with College for the Blind, sad to say. Well, enough of my bitching and whining about how CFB scheduling sucks in a big way, any news on Floyd? :smilewink:

Atleast Beano Cook called Notre Dame a tough game.

Far cry from the 2-6 and 1-7 chants.

Beeno Cook said its a disgrace that PSU only plays one tough non-conference team (ND).

I very much agree with Beano on this one. What does it say when one of the most revered programs in the country has gone the way of loading up on creampuffs before the beginning of the Big 10 season. I know that tOSU has scheduled good OOC matchups in the upcoming years, but they will likely play Akron, and Youngstown St. as well. I don't mind one, but two is one too many.

OSU plays Youngstown state this year, and Akron. The motive is to keep the money within Ohio. So we play teams like Cincinnati, BGSU, Akron etc. Youngstown state in 2007 is a special case. They are scheduled to move to Div 1-A in 2008. So though we have them scheduled, this year is likely to be the only year where we will be playing a Div 1-AA team.

Cretin-Derham Hall receiver keeps the Gophers on his list

By Chip Scoggins, Star Tribune

Last update: August 10, 2007 – 11:26 PM

Cretin-Derham Hall star wide receiver Michael Floyd has narrowed his final list of potential colleges to five and he's no longer going to do interviews about recruiting until after his senior season.

Floyd contacted the Star Tribune on Friday evening to deliver that message. Floyd said his final five schools are Minnesota, Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio State and Florida.

Floyd eliminated Iowa and Wisconsin after meeting with his family and high school coaches.

Floyd, one of the nation's top receivers, said that this was his final interview about recruiting until after his season. He said he's taken this measure because he doesn't want it to become a distraction for the team.

"This is a real important year, and I want the focus to be on us trying to win a state title," Floyd said. "I don't think it's fair to my teammates to be talking about recruiting all the time. I just want to talk about the team."

Notre Dame has long been rumored to be his top choice, but Floyd declined to say whether he has a favorite among his finalists, saying only that he's going to be "open-minded." He reiterated that he wants to see how the Gophers play this season under first-year coach Tim Brewster.

"He has five great choices," Cretin-Derham Hall assistant head coach Andy Bischoff said. "He just wants to see what happens this season before he makes his decision."

I still wouldn't start worring unless he starts taking visits to other schools. If he was really interested in Florida why would he cancell his trip there?

He may have wanted to take an official for a game instead of going on his own dime during the summer when there not much action going on. Just a thought.

Motive, or excuse to play crappy teams? Youngstown St., BGSU, Akron, and Cincinnati... And ND gets sh!t for playing the acadamies. At least they're D1.

of the big three (floyd, baldwin, and walker) as long as ND gets one, I will be happy with a complete class. There is always next year too. Hord is still a sophomore (assuming a 5th year) and tate and kamara are freshman. With the runningbacks, o line, tight ends, and a group of quarterbacks rivaling USC's from the glory years (Palmer, Leinart, Booty), I think 1 top tier receiver a year is ample for a NC run.

Forget about Benn, Little, and all the other guys that go elsewhere.

No dont, but I do know that a plethora of top tier recruits won't finish their recruiting until early 2008.

Havent seen anything on Rivals or scout in awhile about him, but have seen alot of posters saying he may not even announce until late in senior year, maybe even AA game... does anyone have any info different. i remember when we got Ethan Johnson ( i think it was him) rivals put out an article saying that McCarthy and Floyd were soon to follow. Got the McCarthy one, but what has happened to Floyd. He would be the biggest recruit WR we have gotten in a long time, though i have heard that Kumara will see sufficient playing time this year, from blueandgold.com. Just wondering what you guys think?

Yeah, I saw that as well.

About the only surprise was Cretin-Derham Hall star wide receiver Michael Floyd making an unannounced visit wearing a Gophers sweatshirt and hat. Brewster and his staff hope Floyd is wearing the same attire in early February.

Now I'm a little worried. I've been saying all along that Brewster is a good recruiter, and you guys know he is spewing that anti ND crap that Zook does.

Seems like recruiting WR's should be a lot easier for us then it has been.

Hey, if he wants to stay at home and play for that powerhouse, Minnesota Golden Gophers, hell, let him. After watching film on our current WR's, I'm not overly worried about landing Floyd. If he wants to come and be part of a NC, fine, but if he wants to stay at home and play for that program, that, as far as I'm concerned isn't going anywhere, no matter who in the hell is coaching them, let him stay. Good luck to him.
