No Referral Links Allowed

Over the past several weeks, many members have included referral links in their signatures. This is a form of spam and is against forum rules.

You are allowed to post links on this site, but it cannot contain any referral links.

To clarify, a referral link is a link that credits a third party with a visit to the site. For example, if a domain is www.xyz.com, a referral link would be something like www.xyz.com/index.html?referid=GoldLid. So if you like domain www.xyz.com, it's ok to post a link to them. However, you can't post a link that would give you credit if someone clicks on it.

We will begin deleting all signatures that contain any referral links in a few days.

Come on, guys. Anyone can see that activity around here has been way down of late, and you don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to figure out why. Nobody has a problem with GH per se, but it does suck a bit the way so many of our best posters have been cherry-picked after the mods and everyone else worked so hard to get this place running again.

I am not trying to be rude but calling every one a jerk is just not fare.
I disagree with Johnny about members being taken away. If that is happening then the members are moving on for other reasons I would think. I am not here to defend 1 site or the other this is just my 2 cents.

More generally, there's a whole nest of issues here that's best left for another day. All I was doing was defending the "no referral ads" policy in light of the obviously dwindling activity around here - makes perfect sense to me as a "business decision". CNN doesn't run free ads for FOX, do they?

We are hosting DD for the time being if I'm not mistaken but technical issues should still be forwarded to Ryan.
