Being a huge soccer fan and someone who lives in Los Angeles, I am excited about Beckham coming to the US. I think that he will not make much of an impact on the field, but the exposure of having him play in MLS will generate more revenue (the Galaxy are selling tickets like crazy), which will mean that the teams can spend more money on foreign talent and keeping the best US kids on our home turf. That is where he will have the biggest impact.

The hell with Beckham. Yeah, he's got a smokin hot wife. And yes, I would eat 4 miles of her kaka just to see where it came from. But who is he?

Ya know what Bend it like 31. That's got a ring to it.

The problem is we do not care about soccer b/c football is king. Our best HS athletes play football, baseball, and basketball. Until we take it seriously we will not watch. Pele could not change this so and over the hill Beckham will not either. Teenage girls might watch but they are not going to change the dynamics of our countries athletic spectrum. His wife is hot but Tiger's is alot hotter.

I think i'll watch the MLS a little more now, i dont watch it every week but i will catch a game here or there and i'll probalby go to chicago or columbus to catch a galaxy game within a couple of years (this year the ticket prices shot up, im not gonna pay $50 to watch an MLS game, i would do it in a heartbeat for an English league game.) Soccer and ND football were my first loves and i played soccer all throughout highschool. I would have played football too, but we were that school that didnt allow athletes to play two sports in one season. I am excited about Beckham coming over here, im also excited to see if he can get a little more american interest in the game. However, i dont think the interest of the american fan will rise any unless the level of play increases and snagging beckham from real madrid is a step in the right direction. Hopefully we will see a lot of his wife while he is in the states, i dont mind looking at her at all.

While I'm not a huge fan of the MLS, I did agree to go to the RedBull vs Galaxy game on August 18th. An non-formal e-mail went around the company and we ended up buying a total of 120 tickets including friends and family.

I think it will be cool to see him play, but the truth is that the ticket was only $27 and that along with the tailgating material (food & beer) will total about $50. There's not many places that you can eat and get drunk in/about NYC for such a nice price...

The point of Beckham's signing isn't to make non-soccer fans watch soccer. But to make soccer fans who don't like MLS more interested. I think that goal is being reached, but as for all you merely American football fans, who are only half men, I wouldn't expect you to give a hoot.

All merely in fun, watch, i'm gonna get flamed by some noob who thinks I'm not a gigantic fan of American football...

why would you get flamed. I enjoy soccer, but the MLS is ruining it. English,Italian, and Spanish leagues are fun to watch as well as international. I just dont like the MLS for some reason. Its almost like the xfl.

You're not a gigantic fan of american football??? Somebody ban this fool! Jk of course.

That's an interesting point you made though, about it not really being about non soccer fans but about the soccer fans that don't like MLS.

Even if the level of play in the MLS increases I doubt it will draw any new fans to the game. I wasn't going to watch soccer in the first place, but if I was going to I might not anymore just to spite ESPN and the MLS for trying to force feed it down our throats.

I saw probably the most asinine commercial today with all the english fans crying and that obnoxious beattles song playing. I was going to watch, but that commercial made me furious, and I am now going to boycot beckham.

Exactly. I don't think the comissioner (Garber) is really worried about people like you. He's more concerned with the millions of kids who grow up playing it and liking it, and then drift off. He's concerned about the people who watch the Premier League and the Mexican League but not the US league.

He's on the right track though, slow, steady increases. Slow paced expansion and slow paced increasing of the salary cap. You can put out a top notch product without high salaries, and MLS can't sustain that yet. But one day it will. The quality of play is already much higher than it was just 10 years ago. But patience is necessary, the league is just 12 years old!

Only 12 years? Wow, still a pre-teen. I was a soccer kid back in the day. Played it all the time, but then there came a time when I had to chose sports. I chose football (americana) and baseball.

I'm not much of a soccer fan but he's an icon but I'll watch him play maybe but if this was Ronaldo or one of those guys OK I'll be inclined. Beckham I'll watch because of his wife.
