Agreed. Spelling goes by the wayside when it comes to texting. Texting is not my cup of tea, but it might be if I were younger.

Yeah, I'm totally on the outs when it comes to this texting thing as well. Any chance some of you young'uns could start posting in txt lingo so I could brush up on my skills and make some of my students think I'm hip?

I was talking about the bashing of the 17 year old recruit

Actually I was too, but looking back at my post, it doesn't come out that way. Don't bash a kid for spelling on texts is what I meant. Honestly, you should only bash them for felony arrest, stuff like that.

To be honest I don't really agree, except to the extent to which we shouldn't be "bashing" these kids at all. I take it that there are ways of writing - like "u" for "you", "ur" for "your", "wut" for "what", etc. - that are standard txt slang, but "modo" for "motto" isn't one of them. That seemed to me to be an honest mistake, which is why I found (and still find) it pretty funny.

P.S. 1000th post! :rockwoot:

The sad reality is that I have 19 and 20 year old freshmen that take my 100 level english comp. class and in their papers they use text slang. Usually when i approach them they tell me their high school teachers "let us do it this way". Now on the first day of class I inform my students not to use text slang or any other form of slang in their papers. That is their only warning. If I find any form of slang in their papers, it is an automatic F. Is this harsh? Yes. But I had to get the students to understand that grammar used on message boards, text messaging or e-mails is not acceptable in the profesional world.

Wow. I haven't seen it in papers, but students do use it sometimes when they e-mail me, and that really rubs me the wrong way. I don't think your policy is harsh at all, though - seems to me to be exactly the right place to start.

A little humor is not a bad thing,

lighten up francis.

I do not post much because I never have any insider info, so I always can just add that I like this guy or great catch ..... pretty lame stuff. But to complane about a thread being hijacked for a few post is silly. When new info comes in it will be post and the thread will be back to normal. So what if someone is having a conversation during a thread, geez it is not like it will make the recruit sign or not sign because his thread was hijacked for a little bit.

It's cool, i understand but I know the mods like to keep those off tangent posts out of recruiting profiles - it keeps the site organized and informative. A couple posts are fine but things can get out of hand in a hurry. That's why there's the lep lounge and PM's available.

Enough with this pointless crap. Take it to the Leprachaun Lounge if you need to talk about grading papers. This is Steve Filer's thread.

Exactly.

If you guys want repeated posts of, "When do you think he is going to commit to ND?" or " Do you guys think we have a chance here with this guy?" or most noteably, "I really hope this guy commits to us." then you all seriously need to lighten the hell up. I get just as pissed off, if not more at those kind of lame ass posts. We all knowthat it would be stellar if these guys commit, but to repeatedly state the obvious is just as ridiculous as me posting a movie quote from an early 80's movie.

So, to sum up, this dude aint committing today, so get your hands out of your pants and save your celebration loads for the day he possibly does commit.

BTW Specnatz major reps for the post.

Nice--Steve gets his thread back when something happens. He's more than within his rights to take his time, think about it, but his major concern should be that the recruiting class is almost full, and he might be on the outside looking in within a couple of weeks. But I guess the fact that there are Airplane quotes on his page is pretty worrisome too I guess. No additional visits or practices watched are really going to help him at this point you wouldn't think--he probably knows the campus layout better than me at this point, and I went to law school there. We'd all love to have the guy, and don't worry--you'll hear all about it if/when he joins up.
