BTW, some of you may not be impressed with what you see in the video footage. However, you've got to remember that this kid is currently a sophomore, so he is just 15 years old. Please keep that in mind.

I've heard from several sources that this kid IS the real deal, even at 15 years old. LOL
I LOVE the fact that he seems to be ALL Notre Dame's.

Yeah, I've read the same. However, I'm one that doesn't count his chickens before they hatch. However, if we get him, Brett Nagle and Matt Brewer/Shayne Hale in the 2008 class, we will have the best linebacking corps in the nation.

Absolutely salivating at that possibility.

Hey I saw Mt. Carmel lose to my alma mater Prospect HS...great HS game. I do remember the linebackers were solid for Mt. Carmel, but their secondary stunk...

Why does he have to be from Mt. Carmel though? I went to St. Rita... and I hate Mt. Carmel just as I hate Michigan and USC. My freshman year a kid from Louisianna moved No. Indianna to go there and they sent out like his own personal chauffeur to get him everyday for school. Seemed a little shady..........

MC creamed my alma mater in our only state championship apperance and again when I was in 8th grade by the Simeon Rice led defense that ended up winning state. They are what they are.

I can't comment on any "ringers" because I've never heard anything of the sort about them. Public school people usually spout that stuff about Mt. Carmel, Joliet Catholic and Providence more than anyone else. I don't concern myself with it. After all, as PolishDomer stated, Prospect beat Mt. Carmel so if they can do it so can other schools.

Prospect and Coach Pearlman had a great team that was very well prepared and inspired to play that game. Mt. Carmel should be a pretty big favorite this year to bring home another state title, but their schedule is awfully good.

If anyone in the Chicago area (*cough* jigga *cough*) goes to see this kid, a report would be great.

I'll be seeing him this year opening weekend when Mt. Carmel plays Joliet Catholic at Soldier Field. You will have my full report on what I see....or don't see.

Way ahead of you....

So far on opening weekend at Soldier Field I will see:

Steve Filer, Mt Carmel
Martez Wilson, Simeon
Robert Hughes, Hubbard.

Looks like I'll be there all day for all three games. All three will be Irish, too.

I've been hearing big things about Filer so far this summer. 6-3/220 heading into his JUNIOR year. Could be a DE in the making here. Otherwise, one big Inside Linebacker.

That part about him being Irish is just boastful gloating. I do, however, believe Chicago will be locked down by ND. It will start with Wilson and Hughes this year.

Steve Filer is very advanced for a sophomore to be junior linebacker. Once his speed and balance catch up to his frame, which should be this year, look out. He is the real deal and could easily end up being a national recruit ala Martez Wilson.

He still has two years of high school left, so anything can happen. Right now, this kid is someone a lot of the coaching circles in the Chicago area are talking about.

I'd like to see him stay at LB...if he does bulk up significantly I bet he could be an effective run stuffing MLB. your thoughts jigga?

I've been hearing several things about him that he's the best MLB in the country if he was a senior this year he would be the best one in the country I don't know if thats true or not but it sounds good. And he's from Chi-Town our backyard. I think he's IRISH.

There is a rumor going around on several boards that Filer will receive a Notre Dame offer on September 1 (first day to offer Class of 2008 players) and he will commit on the spot or shortly thereafter.

Interesting.

When you know, you know I guess. I'm sure he'll get plenty of other offers that day too.

I've received word that Filer did get an offer today. His coach spoke with Weis this AM and Weis will speak with Filer this evening to make it official.

At which point, it would be great if Filer would in turn make it official.....

BTW, Mt. Carmel came down and kicked our ass at the old Riverfront Stadium way back in the day.

Yeah, he's hilariously huge for his age. What is he, 16 going on 17? Damn.

We'll see what he does this season. And overwhelming odds are it'll be his last high school season, seeing as to how he is an ND recruit, and all of our commitments get injured in their senior year. I almost think it's a right-of-passage.

But really, the guy has a ton of potential. He'll be a hell of a run-stopper if he keeps it up.

Filer tells Jeff Baumhower at Scout that his cousin, Jerome Heavens, went to Notre Dame and Filer is very interested in ND.

Illinois also offered.

Kid sounds solid no matter how you approach it. Hopefully ND gets on him hard. Looks like they already are, obviously, by offering him.
