Below is an article about what the drug guys do in Mexico. We all know the violence that goes on in Columbia, as well. Anyone feel that drugs are harmless, or should we continue to criminalize them?

Severed Head of Mexican Politician Dumped Outside Newspaper's Office
Sunday, May 27, 2007

MEXICO CITY — The severed head of a town councilman was dumped outside the offices of a newspaper in Mexico's Gulf state of Tabasco in what the paper's publishers said was an attempt to intimidate reporters.

The head, left outside Tabasco Hoy's offices in Villahermosa, was wrapped in newspaper inside a cooler and left by a man who stepped out of a sport utility vehicle early Saturday, the paper said on its Web site.

Police and soldiers said the head belonged to Terencio Sastre, a councilman from the nearby municipality of El Cedro, whose body was found on the side of a road Friday.

"It has all the characteristics of an act of intimidation and an attempt to silence the freedom of information that the publishers exercise," Tabasco Hoy said in a statement.

It sent a letter to President Felipe Calderon and other officials, urging them to guarantee the staff's safety. The newspaper did not discuss who was behind the killing.

Mexican drug gangs often decapitate rivals as a means of intimidation and are blamed for killing dozens of Mexican journalists in recent years.

I have seen the effects of Mary Jane on people. It lowers their will to work and go to school (motivation). Plus, if you think cigarettes are bad, pot is alot worse in terms of health. I'm not saying pot is evil or anything, but should it be promoted?

It definitely makes people less motivated and act dumber...so very true. However, I see it as no worse evil than alcohol AND it would eliminate some of the money in the drug trade...thus eliminating some drug lords.

You are correct that Pot is worse than cigarettes...the tar content is far higher and the breaths taken are far deeper.

That being said, it would be the only illegal drug to date that I would support legalizing.

HOWEVER, it would NOT SOLVE the worlds drug problems since the Opium Trade is still huge as is Cocaine.

Well, since pot seems to be the jumping off point to many others, it may help on the demand side. It does seem a huge jump to go from nothing to coke or heroin, as opposed from pot.

After seeing how she's coping with having to quit and dealing with slight withdrawals I just dont see how it could be legalized. Screw that, its making my life hell right now

For all the complaining about our freedoms in the US. Journalists have no idea how good they really have it here. I just wish they actually used freedom of speech (without getting shot) to America's advantage.

Take the pot out of it and I guarantee those folks will find another way to be lazy. Pot is an excuse nothing more. Pot should be legalized, maybe mushrooms. Nothing made in chem lab. Alchohol is way worse than pot, way worse. As far as promoted, don't know. I think it would have to be in the same category as alcohol or cigs.

how can you want to legalize a substance which puts not only the drug takers life in danger, but the others around them...im thinking along the lines of someone high driving, or something like that. im not to educated on the effects of marijuana but i know its not a smart idea to take it

I can't believe ya'll think I'm on drugs. I'm gonna address the American public about that right now. (Pointing my finger) "I have never had any relations with drugs of any sort since being a member of IE." (thumbs up)

Well if it was my perfect world that would happen too, but i see your point. A lot of people smoke and drink and its not killing people every day. But thats beyond my point, i just dont like 1) Ciggaretes 2) Alcohol (im gonna get slammed for saying that) and obviously 3) Drugs...i say ban them all, but then again, im not president, nor close to ever being that.

You mean like Alcohol? Alcohol impairs judgement just as much, if not more. You can overdose on Alcohol. Alcohol is more addictive.

I really don't care if it gets legalized or not...I don't really care either way. I could support it given the right reasons & controls.

But to think that we are protecting the public from the dangers of pot is to ignore all that we allow with alcohol which is far far far worse in its impact on American society.

Your overall point makes sense...

However, drinking kills thousands every year. Drunk Driving accidents, overdoses, liver issues, etc.

LOL I think pot is bad, because once you start doing drugs, what's the big deal about moving up a notch to speed or coke. Some people start to think that they need that high in order to 'cope'. I've seen alot of losers (who were friends of mine) be pot users. No motivation, no real goals, I don't think that it's the worst thing in life to do, but I can't believe that people think that we should make it available for people, especially kids (who would have much greater access to it).
