You really think 5 at least? Weis has stated he wants to get more equal #'s from class to class, so this year probably won't be a jumbo haul.

Yeah, as long as the 5th or 6th would be a high quality player. If Filer commits that would give ND four LBs, and do you really think they would tell players like Sweat, Beal, Sabino, or Brown "no"?

I don't think they would turn down any of those 5 LB's if scholarships are available. It's not going to happen anyway, but there is nothing wrong with having 8 stud LB's in a 3-4 Defensive scheme, even if they are all in the same recruiting class, and especially when you have little or no current depth at that position. Half of them would not play Freshman year, so ND would have arguably the best LB corp in the nation for the next 5 years. It's all a pipe dream anyway, I'm not even sure we get Filer to make it 4, the other 4 are all questionable in a lot of ways. I would like to see another offer go out, maybe to Jordan Futch, who is not quite on the level of these guys, but who with an offer, would give ND a better shot at Sabino, who might be better than all of the guys mentioned here, except obcourse for Arthur Brown.

I'm also hearing that Michigan is in the running. Either way, it is a sad day when both Hale and Sweat (and Prior) are looking strongly at schools like OSU and Pitt and PSU are our of the running. I hate to see Pgh guys going to Ohio or Michigan.

I have NO CLUE what you just said there...
I'd rather have those guys go to OSU or another school we don't play instead of Michigan.
...but Hale is trying to get a package deal (I think with his cousin). If he sticks to the package deal mentality, he's going to UM. Otherwise, he's going to OSU.

Everybody in the beginning wants a package deal, it just never seems to work out that way.

Sorry that my little typo confused you so much. Maybe you should go back to your own board, if you aren't going to add any value here.

Just to spell it out for you.....it is disappointing to me that Pittsburgh guys are looking seriously at OSU, and schools like Pitt and PSU aren't really in the picture.

If you need me to spell it out for you any clearer, let me know.

When I was growing up in PA, Penn State and Pitt sapped all the talent out of Pennsylvania. Most of my family is from the State College, PA area, and it is, in fact disappointing to see recruits going elsewhere to play. As a lifelong ND fan, I'll say that if a highly reguarded recruit isn't going to ND, the sentimental side of me would like to see them stay in state to play at PSU or Pitt. I couldn't agree with you more. I don't know if you are from PA or not, but if you are, I absolutely understand where you are coming from on this. And, as a ND fan, I hope they go anywhere but OSU, Michigan or, these days, Florida. Growing up in central PA, and playing against Bishop McDevit against Ricky Waters, and against Cumberland Valley who was incredible then, and later produced gusy like Frazier, it puzzles me. I honestly didn't know one person growing up who was an OSU fan. Maybe the sentiment has chanced since then, but when I go home now, the fanbase for those schools seems just as rabid as they have ever been.

I've lived in PA my entire life. The eastern half of the state tends to gravitate toward PSU and the western half towards Pitt. I think that the recent decline of Pitt football has a lot to do with the Sweat/Pryor recruiting. It is a shame, because Pitt has done a lot with their facilities, and tried to hire a coach with an NFL history. I'm just not sure that Wanny is the guy.

I've been a ND guy my entire life as well, so my feelings toward Pitt are more sentimental than anything. But, I agree I don't see where the OSU connections come from.

Passing on this little tidbit on Hale that was posted last night on something called the Pittsburgh Sports Insider. I have never heard of them, and do not know how accurate their info is, but thought I would pass it on as a point of interest since everyone else seems to think that Hale is a OSU or Michigan lock. Remember though that the comment is from Pittsburgh.

Pitt head coach Dave Wannstedt believes that the Panthers have a legit chance to land Gateway linebacker Shayne Hale. Most people in this area are writing Pitt off as having no chance but don’t tell that to Wannstedt. Hale just announced his final 10 teams and the Panthers were one of them.

Latest from Hale is the same eleven schools as was posted earlier, but get this, this should be good for some yuks. Four teams stand out, OSU, scUm, Florida, are on top with Notre Dame in there as well. Nothing like throwing a bone to ND fans. Hey, I guess it's better than saying that an ND coach visited his High School, but he couldn't recall his name.

Oh, and BTW, Dave Wannstedt, are you listening, Pitt is not in Hale's Top 4. So much for the Pittsburgh Sport Insider.

Word over at DD is that Hale will be visiting ND on the 26th. To mean it means nothing because I think there is no chance of him coming here. Who knows maybe he'll love CB and SB, but I doubt it.

A lot of guys are taking the cautious approach over at DD, and maybe that's smart, but screw it.

I say we get him. CB and CW have done pretty great things so far on the recruiting aspect, and him coming to campus is HUGE. What a get he'd be.

He's in South Bend today. Gotta love that Ethan Johnson, Hale and Floyd have all visited/will be visiting this week.

Apparently there's a rumor on the Rivals boards that there was another committment. And a few posters on DD are saying it's Hale.

If this rumor does prove to be true, than I don't think there is anyone left on our board, defensively, that is beyond the reach of CB.
