This guy could be very high on our radar for 2008, although it may be hard to wrangle him away from Pitt or Penn State. His former teammate Justin King is reportedly on him all the time about joining him at PSU.

Spoke with a PSU fan and he mentioned that he heard Hale was a silent to PSU already. Will let everyone know more as I find it.

Hale's high school coach is Justin King's stepfather, Terry Smith and he also attended PSU. Pitt just offered Shayne about 3 weeks ago. I'd be suprised to see him leave the state.

Kinda cruel though Svo. Direct us to a 10-point buck then say...."Awww, he ran off into the woods." L

Hey, we're going to be seeing him sometime, so we might as well get familiar with him now.

"Pitt just offered three weeks ago."

I was under the impression that offers could not be made to juniors until Friday, September 1?

You can't officially give a prospect a piece of paper saying they have an offer before September 1 of their junior year, but you can "verbally" offer anyone before September 1 of their junior year.

Hale just picked up an offer today from WVU. That gives him 6 offers total (Pitt, UNC, OSU, Tennessee, and UVA also). He is supposed to be the next coming of LaVar Arrington.

Over on PSU scout's message board, a lot of their posters believe Hale might not be offered (PSU believed to only be taking 1 LB next year). They are prolly going to offer David Poszluzny or Michael Zordich. This bodes well for ND's chances.

Shayne was listed as a Top 30 prospect in the Class of 2008 by Rivals in their recently released recruiting yearbook.

Shayne is on today's free video that can be found on the front page of Rivals Football Recruiting.

He said all the offers and attention caught him off guard at first because he's never really followed college football.

Shayne Hale who many consider to be an OSU lock is considering coming to ND for a visit.

At this point I would think 5 or 6 depending on who that 6th might be. That includes players like Flemming at OLB rather than DE where most recruiting services have him listed.

Just in case anybody is still harboring any thoughts that Shayne Hale has any real interest in ND, this is the latest that Shayne had to say about the Irish when asked about how his recruiting with ND is going.

"They came out to the school; it might have been yesterday."

Sounds really interested, doesn't he. Could not recall the specific day within a day or two after? Did not bother to mention who came to visit!! Oh and BTW, this info is not even from an OSU site.

I hope the coaching staff got a wind of that quote, it's time to close this one down, and get another new LB offer out.

You really think 5 at least? Weis has stated he wants to get more equal #'s from class to class, so this year probably won't be a jumbo haul.

That being said, with Goodman committed and 6 offers extended a receiver (Tate, Odoms, Floyd, Butler, Baldwin, Alexander), it looks like they're gunning for more than one more verbal at WR.

Combine that wish so many other area's of numerical need (2 way OL for the spring game, a guy who was already a small 4-3 DT and a converted Olineman backing him up at NG, and the potential to lose Ferrine, Lambert, and Wooden after this year, leaving us with 4 corners on the roster), I just don't see 5 being the minimum.

I'd say its more like they're aiming for 4, with 5 being the "stud" spot, which as of now looks like Arthur Brown or bust. Shayne Hale sounds like he could care less, and most every other stud LB has a leaning towards a different program (Sabino towards UNC, Sweat towards OSU/PSU, Beal towards... everywhere). The only one offered that sounds good with the Irish is Filer, who would make a nice 4th addition.
