Mustain is becoming more and more useful to us as a non-recruit. He indirectly assisted in getting perhaps the best quarterback for ND in two consecutive classes.

Great point! He also did himself a favor by getting as far away from Arkansas as possible. Maybe he can get a fresh start w/ his WR buddy Damian Williams. Regardless of the bad press, they are both great kids & great student-athletes. I wish them the best & would be delighted if they excelled at USC (except when they played my beloved Irish) just to stick it to the Hog fans.

He looked pretty good throwing more INT's then TD's and getting replaced this year didn't he while wetting himself everytime McFadden got the ball and accually did something with the offense. He's mom is alot like Mrs. Bouchey in the Waterboy too, "Houston Nutt is the Debul"

Just watched the announcement of Crist on Fox Sports West..........seems like a good kid.

Said he was good friends with JC and was looking forward to the competition.

ND Baby!

I like that Crist said he is going to do what he can to bring in the best guys with him.

I really hope so -- NDHS is a major producer in college talent (McDonald and USC commit Wes Horton play there this year) and it would be great if CW could get a pipeline into that school. Southern Cali, good top talent, and taking players out of USC's back yard year after year would be a very nice thing.

On ndnation they have a picture of USC's new qb at the AAA game and he has on PLAY LIKE A CHAMPION TODAY towel on. Pretty funny that those guys would have a picture of that.

Great signing, but what does this mean for Zach Frasier and Demitrious Jones? Will one of them switch positions or look to transfer before the fall semester?

DEFINITELY not before the fall semester ... there's no reason yet to think that Crist is going to jump ahead of them as soon as he arrives on campus. Word is that Frazer loves ND and won't leave no matter what; I don't know where things stand with DJ, though, aside from hearing that he's been inconsistent in Spring ball.

There will only be one thing that affects their status of staying or going: the current QB competition. It's not about some HS prospect that won't be on campus for probably more than a year. If Jones isn't among the final 2, I'd bet he flies the coup ASAP. He sounds very intent on starting at QB, not any other position. Frazer, its a little bit harder to get a read on. Rumors of him loving ND, and maybe his parents moving to the South Bend area... we just won't know 'til whatever happens happens.

Attention all USC fans. That kid Crist who you said was not really that good anyway was just invited as one of the first 2 QB's in the country to the 2007 Elite 11 Quarterback Competition to be held in late July. No news yet on who the other invitee is.

USC fans will start dogging him even worse now. You know how it goes, the lack of comp, not a big enough arm, yada yada yada, blah-blah-blah. Did they recruit him?

Haters.

Some of them are plain haters, and others simply don't know how to handle losing at all any more. They've been spoiled on the field with their NC and BCS bowl runs, and off it they haven't missed out on many elite recruits, particularly from their home turf. It seems like they have to have this God complex in recruiting, and must bash whoever they miss out on to keep their infallibility intact.

No matter how they slice it, they lost a good one. Prototype size, excellent arm strength, plus mobility for his size... the most critical thing I've heard about his game is learning to rely less on brute arm strength, and more on anticipating where the receiver is. For a junior in HS, if thats the only complaint they find, you're good. Its not like we're hearing that he trusts his legs more than arm, that his arm is coming from a different angle every time, or other habits that are difficult to break.

I just watched film on Crist and came away very impressed.

In the pocket, he showed great maturity, poise, and awareness, moving around the pocket with confidence, staying away from defenders, and having the ability to scramble out and make the play if he needs to.

His passing ability is equally impressive as he seems to be a progression quarterback rather than a coverage quarterback, he looks off defenders and finds the open receiver on an impressive variety of passing routes and touches.

If Dayne continues to improve throughout his senior season and shows up to the Elite 11 with the same skill set he showed in his highlight reel, I would not be surprised to see Dayne make a run for a five star rating. It will be interesting to see how our quarterback derby plays out with addition of yet another well packaged player.

Thought it is HALARIOUS how rivals has Crist as their #4 pro style QB. Come, on dude E.J. Manuel #1? Am I supposed to beleive that? Crist has more upside then any of those guys while having offers from the teams that are loaded at QB and only offered ONE Qb this year ND, USC, UM all had top 3 QBs last year. Rivals really giving Manuel the red carpet treatment.

Yeah I saw that too, I thought it was pretty funny. What exactly does EJ Manuel have compared to Crist? Crist has better stats, played against better competition, had a better offer list, is bigger, and why such a big discrepancy between Scout and Rivals? Rivals hes a 5 star while hes a 3 star on scout. Atleast Crist is acknowledged by everyone as being at least a 4 star, even though I think hes a 5.

What made it even more absurd was putting Blaine Gabbert ahead of Dayne. Nebraska was heavily recruiting Crist before he committed to ND, they even offered him before Blaine. So basically even Nebraska would rather have Crist then Gabbert.
