someone stated in another post that CW wanted to move him to DT because of the weakness at that position and thats what prompted the transfer. I am not sure if that is true or not

I doubt we will ever know. But Talley tried his best and was not able to match his goals with his outcomes.

I can only wish him the very best in the future. Success in all areas of his life.

I seriously doubt he transfers to DELAWARE because he doesn't want to start at DT at the University of Notre Dame

The latest reason for the transfer I've heard is far different from that. In fact, it was OFF the field matters.

South Bend Tribune said:
Defensive end Ronald Talley, whose Notre Dame football career ended abruptly on Oct. 12, has transferred to the University of Delaware.

Because the Fighting Blue Hens play in NCAA Division I-AA, the 6-foot-4, 292-pound junior won't have to sit out a year, as transfers do between Division I-A schools.

Talley chose Delaware over Tennessee State and Jackson State.

"It wasn't really a tough decision," the Detroit native told The Tribune. "It was more of a critical decision. They seem to have a lot of things together and a lot of positive opportunities for me. I really wanted to go the I-AA route, because I don't like sitting down. You don't get any better by sitting down."

Talley played in Notre Dame's first six games this season, starting four, before leaving the team. He had 11 tackles -- seven of them coming against Michigan -- after recording 23 as a part-time starter in 2005. Neither Talley, nor Weis would initially speak specifically about the reason for the split. But Talley did shed some light on the subject Tuesday.

"It seemed like the coaching staff would tell me one thing and then another," he said. "The situation they wanted to put me in wasn't in my best interests. It was only in their best interests. In the end, I really couldn't trust them. It was enough for me not to want to be there anymore."

who knows what it means? Regardlessly, I wish him the best of luck. And maybe it sounds bad, but I can't really blame him for looking out for his best interest or what he perceives to be his best interest. Hopefully, he'll find some success there.

I don't know about Joe, but I know Garron Bible played his 5th year there (after graduating from ND), started at safety, and earned his master's degree.

Doesn't make much sense to me. Haven't walked in the kids shoes, but on the surface looks like a bad move. Hope things work out for Talley. Certainly not going to get the exposure there if he's looking at the NFL, but he's got to do, what he's got to do.

Talley was quoted as saying about his switch to tackle......"they wanted to do what benefits them, not me".

Thats a pretty selfish attitude. Good luck to you my man, but I don't think this was really the right decision. With the lack of DT's and the experience he had already gained, he could of had a shot at a spot on the line.

It doesn't matter where you play college ball if your good, the NFL will find you everyone should know that, and by the way Duke had a tight end transfer and he went to Deleware for one year and now he's in the top 3 tight ends going to be taken in this years draft.

Good old Ben Patrick ;)

He played in the senior bowl and really impressed scouts there watching the practices. So yes, if you're a standout player in any division at any school, you're going to turn some heads. Rich Gannon, former Raiders QB and MVP about 5 or 6 years ago, played college ball at UD and led the Raiders to a superbowl appearance, in which they were thoroughly trounced, but regardless, if you're a good player, it doesn't matter where you play.

I'm a student at Delaware, so i'm thrilled about getting more depth at DE, but it's a shame to see him leave ND. What it invariably came down to is that he wanted to be a bigger fish in a smaller pond so to speak.

My take on this is it sucks for Talley, and I can see where he is coming from.

Talley is a big guy and could easily play DT. But he'd make an even better runstuffing DE in the 4-3 at the next level. Ultimately I think Talley did what was best for him and probably improved his chances of making the NFL. On the other hand, he won't be getting a degree from Notre Dame it seems...
