I wouldn't go so far as neg repping but surely you could see how your post could be seen as mocking, right? I didn't take it as such, but others sure may.

Interesting.

Maybe you should recruit Philly as your disciple on the next round of trolling through every thread to neg rep anyone that says "god damn it" again? Start a crusade on the world's, and this site's, biggest issue... people saying the lord's name in vain.

True lack of intelligent dialogue shows it's face when people cannot see the difference between spreading the word and being a zealot.

I said I was thinking of giving up being Catholic, and that didn't get negged.
Well there's confirmation. I'll wait eagerly for justice to be applied to you. But not by me, I don't neg rep since people apparently don't care.

And to be fair, I participated in Lent far before I was Catholic

So you aren't a native born Catholic?

You must be one of those "Naturalized Catholics"?

Maybe you were born a Protestant and emigrated to Catholicism later? Making you Dual Faith?

I should give up alcohol and gambling. But the NCAA tourney is right around the corner and I simply any eat pasta without a glass of red wine so.... I guess I'll give up Chipotle.

This Ash Wednesday, I tried to be mindful of no meat. So I get to work, I'm freaking starving and I'm short on time. I grab the menu for the Chinese take out place down the block. I order shrimp Pad Thai. I pick up my food, I bring it back and have to wolf it down before my day really hits me in the face. I rip off the lid, go to shove a forkful in my mouth, and what do I see? Shredded chicken. They put chicken in every type of Pad Thai, apparently. I'm starving, don't have time to get different food. So I yell out "MOTHERFUCKER" in my frustration, getting some concerned looks from my co-workers. I say "uh, it's Lent. And the Chinese take out people just screwed me." I think they kind of understood.

It's always cracked me up that people don't consider seafood meat. I know it's common place, but it's bizarre to me.

It stems from the ancient customs, in which fish was the food of the poor.

Uh there were plenty of other "Lent" answers that were not neg repped, I'm sure
Do you know?

I don't think her comment was that bad. If you've <strike>stalked</strike> followed any of Quinn's posts in the past you'll notice she has a good sense of humor, and I think we as Catholics are allowed to be a little cynical when it comes to our own religion. We're talking about a group that was against most forms of birth control up until a few years ago, and even their comments then were sketchy about their stance on the matter.

My comment about Friday meat consumption wasn't really inflammatory, but it does go against the church's practice when it comes to Lent, and I didn't get a neg. Not sure what Philly's problem is, but I have gotten negged by him in the past. I want to say it was for my trillion vBuck give away last year. He thought my little game was stupid, so he negged me for it. He can be...grumpy. In any case, you found it humorous Quin, so that's good. Have some rep back.

I get that it's customary, but its makes zero scientific sense. For instance, According to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, abstinence laws say meat is considered something that comes only from animals that live on land, like chicken, cows, sheep or pigs. So under Catholicism, whales (mammals), porpoises (mammals) and seals (mammal) are all ok. Even Alligator (reptile) is acceptable. Those animals all breath air, have red meat and bare no difference fundamentally from land walking animals.

It's silly.

It comes from the understanding of meat during Roman times. Those animals don't constitute "flesh", but poultry and cattle did.
