Neither article you list gives any clear evidence he lied.

The original article. You can't get a scholarship offer if you don't apply.

Ben Carson admits fabricating West Point scholarship - POLITICO

Ben Carson’s campaign on Friday admitted, in a response to an inquiry from POLITICO, that a central point in his inspirational personal story was fabricated: his application and acceptance into the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

The academy has occupied a central place in Carson’s tale for years. According to a story told in Carson’s book, “Gifted Hands,” the then-17 year old was introduced in 1969 to Gen. William Westmoreland, who had just ended his command of U.S. forces in Vietnam, and the two dined together. That meeting, according to Carson’s telling, was followed by a “full scholarship” to the military academy.

West Point, however, has no record of Carson applying, much less being extended admission.

“In 1969, those who would have completed the entire process would have received their acceptance letters from the Army Adjutant General,” said Theresa Brinkerhoff, a spokeswoman for the academy. She said West Point has no records that indicate Carson even began the application process. “If he chose to pursue (the application process), then we would have records indicating such,” she said.
When presented with these facts, Carson’s campaign conceded the story was false.
“Dr. Carson was the top ROTC student in the City of Detroit,” campaign manager Barry Bennett wrote in an email to POLITICO. “In that role he was invited to meet General Westmoreland. He believes it was at a banquet. He can’t remember with specificity their brief conversation but it centered around Dr. Carson’s performance as ROTC City Executive Officer.”

“He was introduced to folks from West Point by his ROTC Supervisors,” Bennett added. “They told him they could help him get an appointment based on his grades and performance in ROTC. He considered it but in the end did not seek admission.

Carson would have needed to seek admission in order to receive an offer of free education from West Point. Also, according to West Point, there is no such thing as a “full scholarship” to the military academy, as Carson represented in his book.

Aren't all students at West Point "on scholarship", by that meaning they do not have to pay to attend?

[this is not arguing that he didn't make up this item, just trying to remember correctly]

Admission to West Point is highly selective; to apply, you must first gain either a Congressional nomination or a Service-Connected nomination. Visit the West Point admissions page for the most current information on how to solicit and submit these nominations.
You can request a Congressional nomination from individuals such as a Senator or Representative, the Vice President, and territorial delegates to Congress.
Children of career military personnel, Reservists, children of deceased or disabled Army veterans, children of persons awarded the Medal of Honor, and certain members of the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) can obtain a Service-Connected nomination.

Cadets at West Point do not pay tuition, room or board.

So he talked to people about going to West Point and they pointed out that he would get a full ride - maybe he doesn't realize everyone gets a full ride to West Point! That would make him ignorant, not a liar. Ask him before ever considering politics and how many people would know West Point is "free"?

I have problems with the guy but I love the way everyone instantly attacks a GOP front runner and tries to frame every statement they ever made in today's context with a prism of pure truth as if any GOTCHA means they are instantly disqualified.

That's actually been my point all along. People are making Hillary into a sociopath...I believe you're the one who posted the video of her clips. They all lie. That's American politics in a nutshell.

PThis is how I picture a Ben Carson Presidency:

(Carson believes he does not need to know everything and that is why Presidents have advisors. This is true)

Emergency Cabinet Meeting

Chief of Staff: Mr. President... why are we having an emergency meeting?

Carson: Thanks for everyone showing up. I just wanted tote you all know that I have been provided some Intel I think you should know about.

NSA Director: What could it be? We have not had any new Intel to deliver since our meeting this morning?

Carson: Well... I was just sitting here and a sloth came running up to me real fast.

Chief of Staff: Sir sloths don't run. They are in fact one of the slowest animals on the planet. And they do not exist in DC.

Carson: Well, he ran right up to me. He started talking and said .."Hey Mr.President... Iran is gonna invade the U.S."

Chief of Staff: The sloth told you this? Sir sloths can't speak.

Carson: All of God's creatures can speak in some form. Anyway he sounded like he knew what he was saying and why would a sloth lie?

NSA Director: Sir, how would a South American sloth know anything about Iran's military goals or capabilities.

Carson: I asked him the same.thing. He said the green stuff in his hair gave him special powers to read the minds of our enemies.

Chief of Staff: Sir, that green stuff would be algae. It grows on the sloth because they move so slow. It most definitely does not have mind reading capabilities.

Carson: He told me y'all would be like.this.... He also said I should take what you say with a big grain of salt. Listen guys... this sloth was legit. He knew all kinds of stuff like my daily schedule, when I like to eat breakfast, what kind of underwear I am wearing....legit stuff.

Carson: Anyway, you guys go ahead a draw me up some battle plans to stop Iran from invading us.

Chief of Staff: Sir we have no information that indicates Iran is planning to invade the U.S.. In fact they do not possess the capabilities to invade us. Our fleet in the Persian gulf and our bases in the Middle East report no troop movements or any other indication Iran is planning on invading us.

Carson: Who is the president?

Lol

That's not exclusive to the GOP front runner. Recall McCarthy's comments about the Benghazi committee and the fact that the hearings have all found no wrong doing by the state department.

In this very thread, Hillary has been accused of riding her husbands coat tails, treason, incompetent lawyering, national security violations, blackmail, chronic laziness, pathological lying, and murder. Running for president is a gauntlet -- Carson being caught in a lie and having to defend his own crazy positions is child's play compared to Hillary's road to the White House. Even people who are defending her do so with the caveat that she is a terrible person who they do not want to win. Sorry Carson is a nut job, but this election is just getting started and it is only going to get harder for him.

And by the way -- I think nearly everyone in the country understands that Cadets attend the academy free of charge.

There was a TON of speculation, at the time, about whether or not the Clintons had anything to do with Vince Foster's "suicide"...

C'mon, man. You even put "suicide" in quotes. That's not implying that they had a hand in Vince Foster's death?

I was responding to a tongue-in-cheek post about Clinton killing two guys with a tongue-in-cheek post of my own.

Like I said........... exaggerate much? And I hope the mods are taking note of this gross mischaracterization of my post.

I'm glad to know that you weren't serious. It wasn't clear.

There are many conservatives who believe that the Clinton's murdered Vince Foster. Without italics, there's no possible way to know that you're tongue in cheek.
