I just landed in Seattle with my missus. Any suggestions on where to eat, visit, hike, etc.

We have a few places in mind to eat, but are open to anything (not picky eaters, everything is in play.)

Things to do?

This trip is on a whim..saw a flight for cheap and jumped on it

Have any of you Philly / New Jersey people ever had Taylor Pork Roll? Someone managed to combine bacon and breakfast sausage into one meat. It's deadly and amazing.

Hey,
I've been living in Seattle now for a year and have done a lot of exlporing around the city and the surrounding areas (the Sound, Cascades, Olympics, etc). I'm also a big foodie and have tried an ungodly amount of restaurants out in the city.

If you could give me an idea for the location you're looking for (neighborhood) and ethnicity I could hook you up. My favorite area is Ballard, a neighborhood a couple miles north of downtown, one of the more hip areas in the city, and has some of the best restaurants in town.

As for scenic area in the city, Golden Gardens is a must. However, it won't be as majestic with the rainy weather, as you won't be able to see the Olympics while sitting on the beach, but the view of the Sound will still be awesome. Alki Beach also has some of the best views of the Sound/city. The most ultimate view of the city would be from Kerry Park and/or Gas Works Park. (I prefer Gas Works as it is on the north side of Lake Union, so you'll get a reflection of the skyline on the water, beautiful at night with the buildings lit up).

As for hiking, wta.org (Washington Trail Association) will be your best friend. Awesome data base for all things hiking in Washington. My personal favorite hikes would be Rattlesnake Ledge (about 35 mins from downtown), Lake 22 (about an hour from downtown), and First Burroughs, Mt Rainier (about a 2.5 - 3 hour drive to the trail head).

Keep me posted on what you're looking into doing!

Flavor is more like salami. It crisps up real nice when you pan-fry it. It's roughly the same size as the Canadian bacon that comes on an egg McMuffin.

Yeah I originally posted it looked like something on the McDs breakfast menu but edited to be more specific...

Taylor Ham, eggs (over easy, must be runny), and cheese with salt, pepper, and ketchup.

Best breakfast sandwich ever.

Thank you for all the park suggestions! Def, going to hit them up today/tomorrow.

We are staying downtown. They only places we have ear marked are Altura (friday night), Salumi, and Pike's chowder. We'd like to hit the Walrus and the Carpenter at some point, but are open to any and all ethnic suggestions. We eat everything, so no restrictions.

Thanks!

Ugh my wife (Phoenixville, PA) and I have egg and cheese on an English muffin every morning and she uses ketchup too. Nasty.

I'm one of those hot sauce (really sauce in general, but hot sauce especially) junkies... I can't eat a typical breakfast without Tabasco... eggs especially...

On that note:

Most if not all Mexican Food must have Tapitio...
Most Soups must have Crystal or some variation...
Filipino foods must have Mama Sitas or Crystal...
Chinese must have sriracha...

You get the idea... when we vaca'd in Santa Fe last year all I had heard about my entire marriage was the Green Chile out there... Her mother's family is from there... which is cool, I like that stuff... but WITH hot sauce. When we went out to eat at these places they raved about the wait staff honestly didn't know what I meant by 'hot sauce'... Like they never freakin heard of Tapatio... I was stuck in a bad Twilight Zone episode... needless to say by the end of the trip I was like...

I also hate ketchup on eggs.. but a Taylor ham, egg, and chee with ketchup just works. The yolk runs, and you dip and the ketchup mixes...ughhh I am hungry.

It is one of those things that just works...like lamb and tuna fish.

The yolk runs,...

haha, on THAT note, how about we talk foods we won't touch...

My list of "If it's involved, then I'm not" foods...

1.) Mushrooms, if I have to explain, then you just don't get it. Even cooking my food on a plate of grill that recently touched mushrooms makes me refrain from eating...
2.) Any form of uncooked/runny eggs... it's just beyond disgusting people.
3.) Most types of canned fish, think sardines and anchovies

Foods I def don't enjoy but will eat if I have to:

1.) Peas
2.) Black Olives
3.) Cauliflower

I avoid those three like I go way out of my way to include onions, garlic and hot sauce... :)

I'll buy that list, but I like runny eggs.

Blegh over easy usually still has raw whites. That's messed up. The whites need to be thoroughly cooked. I usually selectively cut the whites off and eat them first, then pop the yolk bubble into my mouth in one bite.

I love sources as well. However I've discovered RedHot brand Buffalo sauce. It's not the go to hot sauce for me. I love the spice, but prefer a little flavor too.

Ketchup on the other hand belongs on nothing but burgers and hotdogs.

Yea its pretty good. But, have your ever had scrapple? Thats the real king of the breakfast meats, and i'm pretty sure its only found in the immediate philly area. I think its from Amish tradition and is probably made with the left over meat scraps that not even hot dogs would touch...... but it is absolutely f*cking delicious.

Dude did you hear Shady Maple is closing?

EDIT: Never mind, looks like that was a false rumor.

Good burgers and dogs should not have ketchup on it.

Do you even french fry bro?

Ketchup with really hot french fries is fine, but good fries don't need ketchup.

I like Franks Red Hot, really any kind of Cajun hot sauce would be my MAIN staple, they're more versatile than other types of hot sauces... you can throw Red Rooster on just about any meal and have it 'work' to varying degrees for example... not so much with Mexican or Asian hot sauces...

My top go to would probably be Crystal.

The first part of your post hurt me, and then you totally redeemed yourself at the end.

ha, I'm too much of a 'sauce guy' to have just a burger... even a really good one... it has to have some kind of sauce to put on or dip into... ketchup is the most obvious with burgers, but not the only or most preferred... I'm the same with steak (with the sauce thing, not the ketchup thing).

I should take a picture of the top shelf of the door of my fridge, it's nothing but different hot sauces... I'd guess ~25 different ones...
