I can remember being super excited watching that loss to Ohio Northern on Sportscenter and seeing a classmate's brother make a play for the Polar Bears. That was like 2005, crazy to think they haven't lost a regular season game since then.

A teammate of mine, a QB, went there and was like sixth string and transferred out to Portland State, an FCS school, and actually played as a WR. There is some substantial talent at Mount Union.

This would be impressive if Mount Union played on an even playing field compared to other DIII teams. They give out more money than most DII programs who have 36 scholarships. They just disguise it as grants.

But, as he said, they can hide it in the form of Grants. Some DIII schools, and from stories I've heard Mount Union in particular (probably because they're the topic of discussion the few times this conversation has come up), have a very liberal definition of "Non-athletic" scholarship.

That is exactly correct and I have never seen another DIII team come anywhere close to what they give out. It used to be called the "Larry Kehres" grant. Mount would try to get recruits to tell them what a their packages were from other schools and call them back later with more money then their highest package. This would include offers from scholarship programs. They also have no academic requirements whatsoever for their football program. It is all institutional based at that level and they regularly allow football players in that other schools cannot touch. See Pierre Garçon, Larry Kinnard and a host of others that had 14 ACTs that were admitted.

I'm not informed enough to speak on the academics, but you can't blame them for giving out the max aid that they can. ND did the exact same thing for years, until the 85 scholarship limit was instituted. ND used to give out scholarships to guys that would only have seen the field if ND had a "Marshall Moment", and even then.......... maybe.

Did you know that Notre Dame doesn't give out athletic scholarships? They give scholarships to athletes, but the call all of their scolarships merit or academic scholarships.
