19 Wins and 2 BCS Bowls in rebuilding mode

It is clear that Weis is rebuilding. Witgh all the wins, it is easy to fool yourself into believing that we are back. But the reality of the matter is that we aren't back and we probably won't be back next year either.

But how can you not be happy with 2 consecutive BCS appearances while really not having BCS talent? Weis has actually coached us into these games and made us look better than we are in the process. He has earned us BCS bids t face teams with superior talent. That's not bad for inheriting a relatively empty cupboard.

always happy with a winning record. good points. i'll take 10-3 over 6-6 any day of the week. it would be nice to win a game we shouldn't though. we will in due time.

YES...exaclty.

I know it sucks.
I know it hurts.

But we are rebuilding, we must not forget that. The entire team...all the talent...everything. This is a LONG term task. Weis was handed a steaming pile of crap.

He is now trying to polish a turd...that's a thankless job.

How was the cupboard empty????
This is going Jr's and Sr's will be the largest group of NFL players at ND in decades, not to mention Weis had them for 2 years giving him time to build

I wouldn't call the last 2 years rebuilding years at all, rebuilding years don't have 11 returning starters on offense 5 on D or 8 returning on offense and 9 on D the following year...

Rebuilding years are first year starters, Underclassman, much like the 2003 season..and what next year could look like.

But the last 2 years are FAR from rebuilding we should have been winning like we had. I'm not saying we had a NC caliber team, but we should have expected 9 and 10 win seasons with the talent on the field.

There was no "empty cupboard"...there was some depth issues in the underclassman

Now = a pile of crap????????

I call BS on that

PS, that "pile of crap" still managed to start over all the STUDS Weis brought in...including Chase Anastasio

So maybe just maybe those players weren't a pile of crap, and you are just upset

Out of that list, let's pick the players that would most likely start at USC.
Brady Quinn
Maurice Stovall
Anthony Fasano
Derek Landri
John Carlson

Pile of crap? No.

Pile of mediocrity? Possibly.

Pile of elite players? Hell No.

Walker, Thomas, Crum, Wooden, Lambert...those guys would be lucky to make the USC Scout team.

Well Wooden and Lambert both have a good shot at the NFL and both were given scholarship offers from USC

Weis was left with the most talented ND team in a long time, and he had the core of it for 2 years.....that is far from a "bare cupboard"

Its good to see you finally coming to terms with the depth issue, now we just have to work on your idea of ND talent, vs USC, UM, OSU, LSU talent. The NFL argument is old and highly flawed.

it is rebuilding if you don't have the talent level. that right there should tell you what kind of coaching job cw has done. he took some players that were losing to bc and the orangemen and made them a bcs team for 2 years. wasn't anyone happy with quinn or any of the rest of the players until cw stared coaching. so it kind of is rebuilding until cw can get his players in here and start playing.

I have always said Depth is an issue, but we did not have a empty cupboard...

as for USC, UM, LSU...I never said we were on that level...I have said we were on the level to win 9 last year and 11 this year (though I never thought we would win a BCS bowl...I figured 10-2 would give us a Gator Bowl spot which we could win)

Weis wasn't left a National Championship caliber team, and I never said he was, but he was left a team that could and should go 9-3 and 10-3

To say otherwise IMO is just hating on the old coach and wishing to call Weis a Genius

He took freshman and SOphomores that were losing to these teams and won with them as Jr's and Sr's...

I don't think this is an amazing feat...

Do you think Darren Walls will always get beat or do you think around his Jr year he will make a turn like the vast majority of college football players do

Thats why it is very difficult to discuss anyhting with you. No one is bashing ty or davie. But you have said tha depth was not an issue with all of the redshirt people staying. But to have an 11 person class of 3 star recruits and 8 of those players leave the team is a big deal and has done serious damage to the team. We might not of had an empty cupboard but the the cupboard was half full of mediocre talent. (Please, dont mention the NFL argument again)

I can bet ty could of had those players for 4 years and would not of gotten to a bcs bowl. I mean come he was 6-6 with the same players. he had one good year and it was the first which wasn't his players.

Why are we discussing Ty? Did he get hired back onto the staff or something last night while I was asleep?

Move on. Geez.

this is where you lost me. i'll eat my hat if either of them find homes in the NFL.

Well you will have year to marinate it, but Wooden is a lock, and I'll be surpised if Lambert doesn't make a team

Wooden and Lambert were offered...they would have ridden the pine. We shall see if they go to the NFL. Wooden has one more year, Lambert 2.

Lambert may be very good, but he's young...he has time to improve. Wooden just played his 3rd full season...he would not be playing at USC right now. Nor would Richardson...

Thats a nice mythical fantasy that can never be proven of disproven, but this isn't about Ty, this is about the talent we have.

And to say we had an empty cupboard is a BS excuse for Weis...he had players, and we had the type of seasons we should with these players, nothing more nothing less

The cupboard is empty IF you expect this team to be playing for a NC.

If you expect them to beat average teams and get 9 wins...then the team met expectations. I don't think they exceeded expectations.

The whole "Ty's recruiting sucked" is getting old. CW and the rest of the coaching staff has had over 2 years with this team. The talent level is not indicative of a powerhouse BCS team. But neither is Boise State's or Wake Forest's either. Yet these 2 teams seem to use the month before the BCS game to develop a plan that allows their over-achieving players to be competitive against faster, stronger, more talented teams. Our's continues to get beat on the same plays and schemes that have beaten us repeatedly over the past several years.

Rebuilding or not, we got outcoached last night. Never did we make an effective adjustment throughout the game. Nothing LSU did on offense or defense should have been a surprise going into the game. If we simply are going to win or lose based on the talent we have on the field let's call coaches simply recruiters.

Coaches, especially those the caliber of CW and others on the staff should be able to have a team ready to play after a 1 month layoff and we have the past 2 years failed to do this. This has nothing to do with what is in the cupboard when you are hired. Something is flawed and it needs to be addressed not continually swept under the rug with the excuse that the prior administration sucked.

i think we made offensive adjustments in the 2nd quarter when we started to run the ball. but we gave up on the run once we got down by 13. BIG MISTAKE. CW loses patience and starts chucking the ball all over the field.

defense hasn't made one adjustment all year.

That's the one thing that consistently frustrates me with Charlie. He can be WAY too quick to give up on the running game last night. Darius almost single-handedly got us that second touchdown, but then we barely saw him again after that. VERY frustrating.

Did you really just list Wooden? LMAO on that one. He's the biggest dissapointment on the team. He's not even starting if you looked. I could argue another half dozen others. This team has loads of mediocre talent. Sports writers know this, ND fans know this, coaches of opposing teams know this. Cupboards were left bare. There is a HUGE black hole in talent especailly in the Jr and Sr class. Where you been FI9?
