Is everyone surprised, or just pissed?

I think we all knew that LSU was bigger, faster, stronger and more dangerous going into the game. How much? cant say until you see them play, but i saw the physical nature i believed LSU to possess. After watching that game i actually went to bed pissed. completely pissed that after all of this, we could manage no more than 14 points. And our defense was the worst all year long. On the bright side, we gave up 37 less total yards than last years. I was defintely surprised by how bad our o was.

I think this year has showed me one thing. Even though i am an ND fan of wnwavering support, I now truly realize that our team does not belong in the BCS until we prove we can beat top 25 teams.

I am not surpised. Here is what happened to me. The bowl game was announced, my gut reactions was "Oh shit, they are gonna kill us". I spend a month convincing myself that we can compete. I rationalize that we are as good as Tennessee, hence we should be able to hang. I get jazzed for the game. Then crushed.

I predicted a score of 45-21 when the bowl was first announced. My gut feeling was right. I would imagine that many people here knew that we were outmached and simply rationalized that thought away like I did.

We all should have expected this.

I agree with you but I was NEVER excited about the game. I predicted a score of Lsu 45 Notre Dame 24. OOpps. Why did I think we would score 24???? I turned the game off after it was 14-0. I'm SO NOT SURPRISED AT THIS but I'm VERY pissed off about getting the fuck kicked out of us yet again.

I was surprised only with how the offence didn't show up. I didn't really agree with the play calling but thats why he's the coach and I'm not. Lsu rushed alot and I believe with jeff and rhema we could of stretched the field a little more.

Its more of a swirling wind of mixed emotions. Emotions that make me want to kill someone, and at the same time cry.

I'm not suprised we lost, just suprised that we couldn't even compete in the same realm as LSU. I don't know why after watching us play UM and USC.

The thing that gets me is that we get stomped by UM, USC, and LSU, and all of these teams have been beaten and played tough by others. It seems every team has their best game against ND, and it drives me nuts. I was not suprised at the final score, but the second half was suprisingly pathetic.

i'm suprised that we made it a game in the first half, then lsu's talent showed in the second half.

Its not coaching people, its lack of talent. Look at ND's recruiting from 2002 - 2005. Last years class was outstanding, they few years before that are garbage. We didn't have the horses and our losses to the 3 elites showed just how far behind ND is. Believe me, I hate assholes like may and robert smith gloating right now about how ND didn't even belong in the bcs last night, but they are right.

We'll be there, and '08 and '09 will be our return to the elite. Last nights loss won't hurt us with any of our recruits, ND will be fine. Its disappointing to see them get wasted like that, but with the exception of the fake punt on their own 30, our coaching staff is doing the best with what they have. However, I wouldn't shed a tear and it would be really hard not to bust a move if I were to see Minter fired in the next couple of weeks.

Marv, I'm sure I'd agree with your post if only I could move my eyes over to the right long enough to read it.

I spent most of the past month convinced we were gonna get killed. I went to last year's Fiesta Bowl, so everyone around me this year was convinced I would drive to the Sugar Bowl since it's so much closer, but I kept telling people "Why bother? LSU is gonna cream us." I was determined not to let my hopes get built up. But for some reason I got flipped a few days ago and started to believe. Last night was crushing. Ugh. At least I didn't waste money on tickets...

What is it they always say about tests in school, Solo? Your first guess is usually the correct one. :)

I turned the game off after it was 14-0

Exactly the people we need to get off this site. Get off the band wagon and beat it!! Any true fan watched the whole game, or at least most of it. A real fan wouldn't give up after the first quarter.

i watched the entire thing. there were some gator fans watching it and ragging me the entire time. one guy said, "do you know that 86 different teams have won a bowl since notre dame's last win?"

i said "86? that's a coincidence... that's how many convicts that florida has had on their team in the past 3 years."

Yeah, I was trying to convince myself that the USC and UM games were flukes, and that we can play much better. I was wrong on both accounts. We are barely a top 25 team... realistically.

we are a top 25 team, come on now.

Just because we haven't beaten a team that FINISHED in the top 10, doesn't make us not a top 25 team.

Great line! Made me giggle out loud. Reps for that.

I watched every excruciating minute. I kept remembering the UCLA game, and I was glad I watched every minute of that game. And with the Michigan State game, only reason I missed the end was that I had to turn off the TV and go to work. I have since sworn to ALWAYS schedule myself off on nights when we play night games.

I NEVER turn off a Notre Dame game until the clock reads 0:00. What tho' the odds, and all that.

No offense, but this my pet peeve. I hate it hen one poster says that another is not a fan. How would you know? You only knw what you ahve seen of him on-line.

Reall world example for you. My father (when he was alive) was a HUGE ND fan. That;s why I am one too. But he had zero patience. He couldn't stand for them to play poorly. He turned off many a game that I would turn back on when he lft the room.

But you should have seen how upset he would get on those days. He took me to see 6 Irish games while he was here. He loved 'em just like I do. But by your definition, he would not be considered a fan.

I'm not trying to make you look bad here. Just expressing that the whole "real fan" argument holds little value to me.

for all you bandwagon fans that turned this game off, don't waste your time watching a game next year because '07 won't be pretty.

Stick by your team through thick and thin, not only when they are blowing a team out and/or are winning.

I think we are a top 25 team, but not by much. I'd say almost every other team in the top 25 would have played much better games against USC, UM, and LSU.

I couldn't agree with you more. That is my pet peeve also. I hate when people tell you if you are a true fan or not. I am pretty sure most everyone on this board is a true ND fan...even if they turned their tv off or not. I know I turned my tv off at 31-14 because I unfortunately had a big meeting this morning(it wasn't planned by me!). I unfortunately wasn't shocked by the outcome of this game either. When ever anyone gets on me about ND, I tell them to come and talk to me in a couple of years. Give Charlie some time to get "his guys" in there and the outcome will be a different story. They just don't have the horses yet.

I'm dissappointed. I thought we might keep it close. You know play the you guys don't stand a chance in hell card. I'm just suprised about the O. The recievers with the dropped passes. Especially Rhema the last few games. Just didn't make sense. We only can keep the faith that our future will be bright!

I can see a Ty argument coming from somewhere,...... but i cant quite put my finger on where from.

I'm pissed...not that we lost, and not because we lost bad, but because our Defense had no adjustments, just sat their in a soft zone thinking it would work, our offense did nothing special, the fake punt still pisses me off, and everyone at my house was saying LSU should be going for it because their kicker sucks too...and boom they fake it and catch us way off guard...if a bunch of idiots saw the possibility...why couldn't ND's coaching staff...

Our defensive scheme (if you can call it a scheme) was the most frustrating thing in the world to watch...our LB's just stand there waiting to react...giving little run and pass support....

MAKE THE OFFENSE REACT TO THE DEFENSE....

Im sick/dissappointed/let-down !

It's one thing to be down 14-0 and come back to tie the game after so many stupid mistakes. I honestly felt we could pull the upset with a little more offensive composure, but we kept killing ourselves AGAIN ! USC all over again ! It was disheartening to see them collapse in the second half, after giving false hope ! I'm limited to this much, because if I go any further, I'm gonna be really offensive !

For once I agree with solo. I was still ticked last night and there was some disappointment, but it wasn't the gut wrenching disappointment that I felt after Michigan, or USC.
