P Money's #1 recruiting target at the Opening

Has scheduled a Sept. 27th visit

Has 23 CB's for Michigan. Zero for anybody else.

Jones pushes decision way back

He'll take all five OVs and no longer has a timeline for when he will commit (it was this summer). The delay is in part because he no longer plans to EE. As Crusader said, Michigan leads with Duke next. Wiltfong says his upcoming ND visit could be a game-changer, especially if Michigan fills up because he waits.

Of all the kids to recruit...why is he Parker's numero uno? Isn't LB a boom or bust haul this year?

I would much rather have Kelly and the McCoullgh kid from Texas.

Hope this is strictly because he's opening his eyes to other possibilities and not academic related.

They are both from Florida and shared a flight to the opening. I believe it's that Parker already has a foundation with Jones.

This X (add any large number)

Hope this is strictly because he's opening his eyes to other possibilities and not academic related.

It is on both counts. He was a given to commit to Michigan but it seems the ND offer along with Stanford and Duke are making him pause. So it's academic related in a good way for once. That's a serious final 4 if you wanna play some school on the side.

They are both from Florida and shared a flight to the opening. I believe it's that Parker already has a foundation with Jones.

They are both from Orlando and from what I read, must have played together either in Pop Warner or before PArker went to Catholic school.

Parker rooming with Heggie and he ain't get the green light from the staff to recruit the Hegmeister Junior? :O

Little Heggie is just a center. ND won't take another center until at least '17.

Sampson talked to him today, really gave a good impression. Parker has been all over him and Manti's message yesterday caught his attention

"Education is a huge, huge, factor for me," Jones said when asked about his top five. "With a Duke education you can't go wrong. Michigan is the top public school in the nation, and then it's Notre Dame. Outside of Oklahoma really all four are high up on education, and that is the key for me."

"Notre Dame likes me in the middle," Jones said. "I talk to Autry Denson and then [head coach] Brian Kelly a little bit through direct messaging, but that's about it when it comes to the coaching staff."

"That's a hard one," he said. "They are all recruiting me pretty equally and heavily. Notre Dame has definitely been anteing up. They are more in my [direct messages] just wanting to say what's up. I would also say that Michigan has been on me heavy." - See more at: https://notredame.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1783040#sthash.ixyaV4at.dpuf

The feeling around here is three-star FL LB Jonathan Jones will end up heading elsewhere despite Michigan being his long-stated top school. Jones told Sam Webb that he plans to decide after taking all five of his official visits, with Michigan still holding the top spot:

“(The Wolverines) are still #1,” said Jones. “I actually changed up my top three. My top three is Michigan, Duke and Notre Dame. Michigan, I stayed there for a good four or five days. I met a lot of knew family there. They’re definitely looking good.”

Webb also spoke to Jones' father, whose comments gave off a decidedly different impression ($):

It’s going to go about how far he is from us because of course we want to attend his games, weather conditions. I’m trying to explain to him, if you’re up north, you can’t just put on a pair of slip and slides and some shorts and go outside. You have to fully dress. Is he going to be happy, can he adapt up there in the north or wherever he goes, can he adapt? You have to realize this is where you’re going to live for four years. We try to give him a little bit of leeway but as parents, we can tell him about different things in life, but we try to give him a few nuggets. If you go too far, we may not be able to see you as often as we would like.

Thank goodness for 13 nationally televised games and a schedule that will put you in within an 8hr drive once or twice a season during his 4 years in South Bend. It's a much better option than Michigan or Duke in that regard.

Final five of:

1. Michigan
2. Duke
Nd, UCF, Stanford

Michigan is the leader with Duke second as those are the schools with the best education he's visited. Like said before education is huge to his family. His father can't stop talking about ND and that's his choice without visiting. Mom likes Duke and Michigan. He says admittedly ND could/would be higher if he had already visited. He has an OV setup for UMASS and I'd be surprised if we didn't make a major move then. However, it sounds like he'll visit all 5 before a commitment comes.

Kids say things like "education is huge", but then they go and rank Michigan ahead of Duke, sooooooooo yeah. Is it really that huge?

Good thing we'll have a bigger class now, so we can afford to go harder for these guys.

Well I think education can be huge without it being the only factor. Why couldnt education be #1 but he chooses a school that isn't the best at #1 but is at 2,3,4 etc. on his list. He has to take all the criteria into account. I'd say having this group shows the kid is at the very least serious about academics.

You can get all the education you want from Michigan. Does the program and school expect as much of its players? No. Would a Joe Schmidt get a world class education at Michigan? Absolutely. I took a quick look and was shocked to see how many fields that Michigan is ranked higher than ND at the undergraduate level.

But when the football program systematically pushes these kids to earn cupcake degrees, does any of that matter?

In many cases the illusion of education based on a school's reputation is enough. The country is so diluted with education that a bachelors degree is the new high school diploma. There's always an exception to every rule.. it boils down to effort and dedication. On a Jonathon Jones note, give me all the FL recruits.

Families don't know that though. They don't follow recruiting and college football and closely as us addicts do.

So they go these visits and they get sold a bill of goods. And these coaches and recruiting directors are VERY good at what they do. How could you NOT get swayed when you don't know the game like we do?

And Michigan is an excellent school academically speaking. Excellent. It's an easy sell. So while what you state above is correct, families don't know that, and that's all that matters, really.

That's where the coaches have to show the recruit and the family the difference between the schools education.

Can someone tell me Jonathan Jones test scores? GPA? His Mother's educational background?

While I think it's common knowledge Michigan has some paths to a bachelors that are easier than any at ND, it's silly to think that exceptional student athletes capable of competing in the classroom are forcibly being dumbed down because the football program leads them that way.

per scout he is taking a official to ND this weekend. Wants to major in business which obviously helps ND. Will also official to Syracuse, Duke, and Michigan. Michigan is assumed to be the leader.

Also mentioned that he wanted to ask the staff about what they thought of all the injuries. Wonder if there was any negative recruiting involved there.

"Would like to just sit down and talk to a business professor and the academic advisors," Jones said of what he's looking forward. "Also talk with all the coaches and players. Never been to Indiana so always great to experience a new place."

“I like Notre Dame because it’s a very storied program, a lot of great players have come out of it,” Jones said at the time. “Great coaching staff and the opportunities after college, and just the opportunities when you’re there, it’s amazing. They have a lot set up for you to succeed, and my dad likes the life after college thing. He talks to Autry Denson a lot and Coach Denson tells him they plan to take care of me after college and things like that.”
