I heard that he isn't just a gimmick coach. i don't follow the guy, but someone told me that at other places he coached he ran different offenses. Any truth to that?
That's fine... but some of the plays out of that offense are gimmick plays. There is absolutely no denying that and in the games I watched this year, he ran a lot of those types of plays. Again, I have no problem with that because he was in the Big East.Anyone that calls his offense a gimmick is not informed and has not followed his career. He has and always will run the spread option offense, he founded it. But it isn't a run only offense, at Tulane he was pass first under Shaun King, at Clemson it was fairly balance under Woodrow Danzler(spelling) and at WVU he has been more rush oriented especially in the last two years. When he has two guys that run in the 4.4 range, what would you do when teams aren't stopping it? If best using the assets you have is a gimmick then i gues Wannstadt is the most innovative coach in the history of football...

However, the SEC has a lot more athletes and I'll be interested to see how he balances the offense out or if he tailors it to the Bama squad. One thing is for sure, they love power running games down there. It'll be interesting to see if he embraces the Bama culture or if he stomps on it and continues to coach what he knows.
i wonder how this will effect recruiting for both teams! he is a proven coach and moving to the talent filled south he is going to have his hands full of potential studs.
He'll go head to head with Urban Meyer for the same types of kids to fit that system.
The guy will have to grow on me... he's just never seemed that interesting a person. And he lost control of his WVU team after the Louisville loss. I mean, you are not supposed to lose to USF.. not when you've got Slaton and White on offense.
is he sticking around to coach the bowl game, or not?
