Kid flies around and makes hits. I'd have him in on kick coverage at the very least.

Yes, I'd be surprised if he didn't

I'd hope that the guy they offered for the single purpose of being the leader on special teams would start from the get go on kickoff and punt coverage. My expectation is Mike Anello 2.0...

Everybody owes this kid a big thank you for helping land Alize. He was in his ear all year.

Nicco w/ the King. Love it.

I think he does for sure. Wouldn't be surprised to see him get some good PT on defense against Ga Tech and Navy as well.

I hope we rotate 4 deep against Navy. So tired of coming out of that game injured and beat up.

Kid flies around and makes hits. I'd have him in on kick coverage at the very least.

This is what I am thinking too. Now that we are adding some quality depth in places with athletic guys, hoping we see kids flying around knocking the socks off of returners.

I'd hope that the guy they offered for the single purpose of being the leader on special teams would start from the get go on kickoff and punt coverage. My expectation is Mike Anello 2.0...

Thinking this kid will provide a much needed nasty attitude and some swagger to ST!

Everybody owes this kid a big thank you for helping land Alize. He was in his ear all year.

HUGE Thank You

I think he makes an instant impact on special teams. I could see him flying down on kickoff.

Also his swagger will be contagious. They call him "The Hitman" at Gorman.

The UCLA fans that were butthurt over losing Aliz'e certainly didn't have nice things to say about Nicco. Some thought he'd never see the field and was purely brought in to steal Aliz'e.

He's gonna be our hit man.

And according to UCLA, Notre Dame now has a private source that will pay for whatever recruit Notre Dame wants without fear of reprisal.

If the Ferretti's want to do that, I'm down. Time to level the playing field, lol.

I'm getting a strong "Joe Schmidt" vibe from Nicco. Undersized captain on a powerhouse team. Elite intangibles. Assumed to be a toss-in for a highly-coveted team mate, but turns out to be an even bigger contributor than his buddy. I'll bet he's going to be a household name for most Irish fans before he graduates.

I concur, and for those that doubt him just remember he was a captain and arguably the best defensive player on the #1 team in the nation. They played in big time games almost every week. This kid is a football player, plain and simple.

Personally, I love having kids like Nicco around!

We could play one of those teams that likes to run their 350 pound lineman down at the goal line, and I could see Fertitta anxiously looking to make the initial collision... And somehow winning.

F = MA disagrees with you

I like having a Nicco around. Too many and you become too small, but he can certainly be a contributor to this team in some fashion. Hopefully he surprises us all and is a bonafide playmaker.

I love having around as well. Although many of the kids we get his size and his speed are preferred walk-ons. Then again he was an army all american. I think he will contribute and may surprisingly start his senior year.

I guess I'm not as optimistic as the rest of you guys. I'll be happy with Mike Anello pt. 2.

I could see him thriving in a system where he doesn't have to be the star, athletically speaking, on every play.

Yeah, I like the way he plays in the flat (reacting quickly, beating the block and making a play close to or behind the line of scrimmage), but I don't want him running downfield guarding a 6-0 or taller WR. I also can't see him getting in on goal line situations.

I'd prefer Bob Sanders v2. They also called Sanders the "hit man" and he was a 4.6-4.7 guy when he got to Iowa...was undersized but played with a ton of heart and physicality while also greatly improving his athleticism during his 4 years as a Hawkeye. Here's to hoping Nicco can do the same and become an impact player in the same mold.

I agree with this...tough as nails, going to sell out and leave it all on the field every play...the kind of kid if you pick a fight with him you better be committed to killing him, because he isn't going to stop coming at you until you do...the funny thing, regardless of his worth, if you look at pictures of his pops, he looks like he's got a little...ok maybe a lot of crazy in him too...in a badass way.
Fact: They may come in all shapes, sizes and degrees of athleticism and ability...but if you end up with 85 kids with Nicco's heart and attitude on your team you are not going to lose many games.

This cat will contribute more than Anello. I see him as getting in the rotation by end of sophomore year, and possibly end his or another season with a vicious hit.

Wow....That's quite a comparison - I'd definitely prefer that be the case but Bob Sanders ran a 4.35 while carrying 204 lbs on that little frame of his. He also had a 41.5 inch vertical. Bob Sanders wasn't all that when he got to Iowa, but what happened to Sanders rarely happens to anyone. Might want to temper those expectations, they'r enot very realistic.
